<p>This study deals with the effect of hamburger strategy on writing descriptive text. Hamburger strategy is a writing organizer strategy that visually outlines the key components of a paragraph. When writing by using hamburger strategy, the students will learn to remember how to build the paragraph and the importance of each component. It was conducted by using experimental quantitative research. The population of this study is the first semester  students of English Department Nommensen Medan. The writer takes 50 students as the sample and they are devided into two groups by using random sampling. The first group was  group A as Experimental class which is taught by implementing hamburger strategy while the second group is Group B as control class which is taught by using conventional method. Oral test is used  as the instrument of collecting the data. This test consists of two types, namely pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation shows t-observed that is 3. 58, which  is higher than t-table that is 1.676 at the level significance  (p: 0.05) with the degree of freedom (df) 48. It means that Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected, therefore it is concluded that hamburger  strategy  significantly affects on writing descriptive text of the first semester students of English Department in Nommensen University Medan academic year 2016/2017. It is suggested for the students of English Department as source of valuable knowledge and information when conducting a research related to the study. It is also suggested that teachers of English subject should implement hamburger strategy as one of alternative in teaching writing to increase students’ writing ability.</p><p><em><br /></em></p><p><strong><em>Keywords: </em></strong><em> </em><em>h</em><em>amburger </em><em>s</em><em>trategy, </em><em>w</em><em>riting hortatory exposition text</em><em></em></p>

The purpose of this study is to look for a significant influence on the application of using  Wattpad  as learning activities on students' ability to write descriptive texts. The main consideration is because an educator in this case should  used interesting instructional media, particularly to teach writing so that the potential of students can be developed optimally. Meanwhile the development of writing of English Department Students of Putera Batam University is still relatively low in quality. Wattpad is an applications which provides the students  an opportunity to write, promote and help their writing  reach acroos  the world. The design of the research was quasi-experimental research that want to find out the effect of  using Wattpad towards students  writing ability. To know students’ writing ability, this research uses writing test as Instrument. There are three pre tests and post tests. The pre-test were used to see students writing ability before having treatment and posttest are used to see the differences on students  writing ability after giving treatments. The subjects were the students of English Department of Putera Batam University who took writing class. The data found that  using Wattpad has a significant effect on student’s writing ability. This conclusion can be seen based on the analysis that has been done where the obtained Z score was smaller than critical value, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Hi) was accepted. So, based on the results , it was concluded that there was statistically diffrence between the pre-test and post-test score at the 0.05 levels. It means that teaching writing  by using wattpad gives significant effect on students’ writing ability

The aimed of this research is to test the effectiveness of using Pecha Kucha Technique in students’ speaking performance at fourth semester of English Department in Muhammadiyah University of Metro. Pecha Kucha is a presentation form of 20 pictures for 20 seconds and it is also called 20x20 presentations.The entire presentation always lasts for exactly 6 minutes and 40 seconds. The research method used in this research is an experimental research. The subjects of this research are the students at fourth semester of English Department in Muhammadiyah University of Metro academic year 2020. There are 21 students of control group and 21 students of experimental group. The research instrument used to collect the data in this research is an oral test. From the two classes, the experimental and control group, the measurement shows that increasing line of the speaking ability of the experimental group is higher than the control group. The result of pre-test score shows that the average score of the experimental group and the control group are 52.38 and 56.19. From the score of both groups, the result shows that the control group is better than experimental group. Then, the result of the post test of the experimental group is higher than control group; the average scores are 70,71 for experimental group and 62.38 for control group. It can be concluded that there is significant influence of using Pecha Kucha Technique in students’ speaking skill.

Writing is an activity to write and reformulate ideas to create meaning on a paper. In teaching writing, there are many influences, such as creativity. Creativity is an ability to create new product that can be useful and effective in original of thinking. This research is aimed at finding out whether creativity has significance influences toward writing achievement. The research was conducted at IAIN Metro in the academic year of 2012/2013. The population of this research was the third semester students of English Department of IAIN Metro. The result of this research is the students who have creativity could give significant effects on the students' writing ability and the creativity that was given by the lecturer was effective.

  Penelitian kuantitatif ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar pengaruh bermain play dough terhadap kreativitas membentuk geometri anak pada Kelompok B di RA As-Syuhada’ Pedurungan Semarang Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017. Jenis Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dalam bentuk Pre Experiment Desain dengan desain yang digunakan adalah One Group Pre-Test And Post-Test Design. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa RA As-Syuhada Pedurungan Semarang Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017. Sampel yang diambil terdiri dari dua kelas yaitu kelompok B1 berjumlah 20 anak dan kelompok B2 berjumlah 20 anak. Peneliti menggunakan teknik Non-probability sampling dengan jenis sampling purposive. Tekhnik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini berupa dokumentasi dan observasi. Hasil analisis data dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh bermain play dough terhadap kreativitas membentuk geometri anak pada kelompok B di RA As-Syuhada’ Pedurungan Semarang Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017. Hal tersebut dapat diketahui dari perolehan  14t hitung">  7,66 > 14ttabel"> 1,729 dan meningkatnya rata-rata kreativitas membentuk geometri anak, sebelum perlakuan 51,3 menjadi 69,8 sesudah perlakuan. The result of data analysis can be concluded that there is influence of play dough to creativity to form child geometry in group B in RA As-Syuhada’ Pedurungan Semarang Academic Year 2016/2017. It can be known from the acquisition of t calculate 7,66> ttable 1,729 and the increase of creativity mean to form child geometry, before treatment 51,3 become 69,8 after treatment. Based on the phenomena that students have difficulties in writing descriptive text, the students could not write because do not have any ideas when they are asked to write. So, they need some ways which could help them in writing. The problems in writing can be solved by implementing some strategies in teaching writing. One of approach that teacher can use to help students write a good text is MAM. The main objective of this study is find out if MAM can improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. The research method used is quantitative research, specifically quantitative with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample take two class at tenth grade students of SMK Jabir Al-Hayyan in academic year 2019/2020. The data had been obtained in post-test of experimental class were: the highest score was 96, the lowest score was 62, and the mean score was 80.50. Post-test of control class were: the highest score was 89, the lower score was 60, and the mean score was 71.54. It can be seen from the data showed that students’ score in experimental class was highest than control class. It means that using make a match method was effective, easier, and more understable to be applied in teaching and learning process, especially in writing descriptive text. Keywords:  Improve, Make A Match Method, Writing Descriptive Text

This research is aimed to develop a good realia as a media, easy to be learnt, and can be used for teaching writing descriptive text. This study is developmental research uses Sugiyono’s model. The evaluator of the media are three experts. This instruments employed in this study is a questionnaire, interview, and Test (Pre-test and Post-test). The finding of the study is the quality of the developed realia media viewed from the experts is very good (87,2 %). The final product of this realia media is continued with effectiveness exam. The study takes place in MTs. Swasta Al-Jam’iyatul Wasliyah Tembung to the studens of VIII class, academic year 2016-2017. The samples are 40 students which is given a miniature of SIB monument and National monument as realia. Pre-test and Post-test were administrated to measure students’ ability in writing descriptive text before and after using realia. The scoring system was based on five aspects; they are content, organization, vocabulary, language use, mechanics. The result shows that there is an increase of students’ ability in writing descriptive text by using realia as a media. Therefore, the writer suggest to English teacher to develop realia as one of the alternative ways to increase the students’ descriptive text writing ability.

<p>This research entitled: “The Effectiveness of Using Photograph in Teaching Writing” is intended to find out whether there is significantly different in writing ability between the experimental group and the control group.</p><p>This research employed experimental design. The participants of the study were the tenth-grade students at SMAN 1 Karau Kuala in the academic year 2013/2014. Two classes were used in this research. There were X-C as the Experimental group and X-D as the control group. The research instrument used was a writing test in the form of essay test. The data in this research were mainly gathered through the use of pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by measuring t-test and SPSS program to calculate the t-value from the score. The finding of the research shows that there is a significant difference between teaching writing by using photograph and teaching writing without using photograph. After the treatments, the mean is 75.43 the standard deviation is 9.370 the df is 44, and the significance is 0.00. If the significance is smaller than 0.05, it means there is a significant difference between teaching writing by using photograph and teaching writing without using photograph. </p>

Jenis Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dalam bentuk Pre Experiment Desaindengan desain yang digunakan adalah One Group Pre-Test And Post-Test Design. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa TK ABA Aisyiyah 51 Semarang Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017. Sampel yang diambil terdiri dari dua kelas yaitu kelompok A1 berjumlah 23 anak dan kelompok A2 berjumlah 23 anak. Peneliti menggunakan teknik Non-probability sampling dengan jenis sampling purposive. Data yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini diperoleh melalui dokumentasi dan observasi. Hasil analisis data dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan pada kolase daunterhadap keterampilan motorik halus anak padakelompok A di TK ABA Aisyiyah 51 Semarang Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017. Hal tersebut dapat diketahui dari perolehan   5,55  >1,729 dan meningkatnya rata-rata kolase daun terhadap motorik halus anak, sebelum perlakuan 64,70 menjadi 73,83 sesudah perlakuan. It can be known from the acquisition of 5.55> 1.729 and the increase of leaf collage average to the child's fine motor, before treatment 64,70 to 73,83 after treatment. This research was intended to find out whether or not there was a significant influence of running dictation on students’ descriptive text writing ability and to find out students’ responses toward running dictation method used for improving students in writing descriptive text. The research methodology was a quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was the tenth-grade students during the first semester of SMA Negeri 1 Jalan Cagak. The data from pre-test and post-test were analyzed by using SPSS 22.00. The data from questionnaires were analyzed by using a Likert Scale. The computation results of Independent Sample t-test it was obtained that Sig = 0.006 and α = 0.05. It means Ha is accepted because Sig < α = 0.05. It can be concluded there is a significant influence of running dictation method on students’ descriptive text writing ability. Furthermore, the results of questionnaires showed that most of the students (80%) gave positive responses toward running dictation method in writing descriptive text. It can be put forward that Running Dictation is effectively used for teaching writing descriptive text, the students are motivated, enjoyable to learn and their interest through English learning especially writing is rising.

<p>Writing ability is a skill that must be mastered by students. One of the media can be applied in teaching writing is TV Newscast. The objective of this research is to find out whether the writing ability of the eleventh-grade students of SMKN 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year after being taught by using TV newscast is better than before. This study is experimental research; in this research, the writer used one group pre-test post-test design. There are two variables; they are TV newscast (independent variable) and the students' writing ability (dependent variable). The population of the research is the eleventh-grade students of SMKN 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year. The writer used random cluster sampling as the technique to take the sample. Then XI AK 1 (accountancy class) consists of 38 students was taken. The research used achievement test as instrument for measuring the students' writing ability before and after being taught by using TV newscast and then the data were analyzed using the statistical formula. Based on the result of this research, the t<sub>0 </sub>(obtained) was higher than t-critical (20.09&gt;1.56). It showed that t<sub>0 </sub>(obtained) on the critical area and the null hypothesis (H<sub>0</sub>) is rejected. Then the conclusion is that the writing ability of the eleventh-grade students of State Vocational School 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year after being taught by using TV newscast is significant.</p>
