The purpose of the academic paper is to establish the effectiveness and students’ assessment of the integrated approach used in the study of world literature for high school students and university students. The research methodology provided for the use of qualitative and quantitative approaches; the experimental method is the basic one in the research; the methods of questioning and observation have been also used. The result of the research is proving the prospects and effectiveness of the introduction of complexity in the methodology of teaching world literature, forasmuch as this approach contributes to the formation of a student-centric environment in the modern educational space of Europe. Studying the effectiveness of modern methods of learning literature is promising due to the fact that these methods can be used comprehensively in order to intensify the study foreign languages in the context of world literature as well as national cultures, in particular.

AbstractThe paper deals with cognitive interview, a method for pre-testing survey questions that is used in pilot testing to develop new measures and/or adapt ones in foreign languages. The aim is to explore the usefulness of the method by looking at two questionnaires measuring anti-Roma prejudice. The first, the Stereotype Content Model (SCM), contains questions that are dominantly used to test two dimensions of social perceptions of various groups: warmth and competence. The second, Interventions for Reducing Prejudice against Stigmatized Minorities (INTERMIN) consists of the items most frequently used in contact research to measure attitudes, social distance, anxiety, trust and behavioural intentions towards outgroups. Two rounds of cognitive interviews were held on both questionnaires to verbally evaluate participants’ understanding and/or interpretation of the draft questions. The first round was attended by university students, while the second round (with improved versions of the questionnaires) was done with high school students, as they are the target group for planned interventions based on the contact paradigm. The paper explains the problems/difficulties the participants had answering some of the questions and our attempts at improving the questionnaires. The problems can be grouped around six issues: The first two deal with the strategies participants used to answer our questions – whom exactly did they have in mind when answering the questionnaires and whose viewpoint did they represent in their answers. The next four problems are around nuances in the formulations of our questions and generally have to do with how the participants interpreted our questions – they concern assumptions that distinct items were logically interconnected, the period of time and locality referred to in our questions, translation and transferability of meanings from one language to another and double negation.

The Albanian Education System is currently undergoing several changes, one of which is the Foreign Languages Curriculum implementation. One of the main External Factors in implementing the EFL curriculum is even the kind of Textbook it is chosen to be used in the EFL teaching and learning process. As long as a book is considered ‘food for thought’, an EFL textbook could be easily considered as ’a milestone’ in the students’ education. According to this, choosing the right textbook to teach English to High School students is as important as designing the curriculum itself. It is needed to think about the students' needs, interests, ability and level. Choosing a course book is not a frivolous matter, so it should be made clear what kind of English textbook fits best for the students of the High Schools in Albania. This will come out according to the analyses of what the curriculum asks for, the currently used textbooks, as well as according to the observations among teachers and students in the High Schools of Elbasan, Albania.

A new technique of distance learning of high school students in engineering disciplines in demand in modern experimental physics is presented. In the learning process, the student in practice solves a set of tasks that correspond to the real problems that arise when conducting modern physical research. For this purpose, an online engineering workshop was developed and implemented, including a modular type laboratory installation, with which it became possible to organize the implementation of various physical experiments using modern methods of a scientific experiment. Users can perform tasks remotely over the Internet, while simultaneously observing the actual process of the installation using a web camera, which provides a certain effect of presence.

EarSketch is an all-in-one approach to supporting a holistic introductory course to computer music as an artistic pursuit and a research practice. Targeted to the high school and undergraduate levels, EarSketch enables students to acquire a strong foundation in electroacoustic composition, computer music research and computer science. It integrates a Python programming environment with a commercial digital audio workstation program (Cockos’ Reaper) to provide a unified environment within which students can use programmatic techniques in tandem with more traditional music production strategies to compose music. In this paper we discuss the context and goals of EarSketch, its design and implementation, and its use in a pilot summer camp for high school students.

According to previous research (e.g. Bernstein, 1971; Gogolin, 2014; Hegedűs et al., 2019), family background plays a decisive role in an individual's mother tongue acquisition and in learning foreign languages. In another study, parents with a high social background (54.0%) chose German for their children, and parents with a low social background (56.9%) chose English in primary school (Sebestyén, 2021). Based on this, in the study I examine what difference can be detected in the foreign language choice of high school students from different social backgrounds. In the study, I analyze the student data (890 people) of my database entitled “German learning and teaching in Hajdú-Bihar and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties” prepared in the 2018/2019 school year, during which I perform cross-tabulation and cluster analysis with the help of SPSS program. The database contains data on 11th grade high school and vocational high school students who studied German and / or English in high school. As the results, there are differences between the learned foreign languages among secondary school students according to family background. Among the clusters related to high school choice, those belonging to the “Higher Education Oriented Local” cluster are most interested in foreign languages, most German-speaking (74.0%) and English (89,0%) students tend to be in this cluster. Overall, the majority of respondents learn English, while students from higher social backgrounds (also) learn German.

Foreign language study is an increasingly prominent part of education everywhere. Not only are high school students nearly always required to study a foreign language, but many lower and middle schools have added foreign languages to their curricula, whether as enrichment or a requirement. While it has long been recognized in the learning disabilities field that foreign language study would be a terrific challenge to learning disabled students, somehow this fact has been widely ignored in the field of foreign language instruction and in schools in general until very recently. The following article looks into the ways to teach foreign languages to students with learning disabilities.

This paper comes out of concerns about teaching English writing to vocational high school students in EFL learners context. This study points out how the process-product hybrid approach affects students writing skills in solving some complex problems in order to generate deep comprehension of writing. In this study, quasi-experimental research was applied to measure the students writing improvement by collecting the data from instruments which covered pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The findings showed that students writing skill improved significantly. It also revealed that almost all of the students responded the statements positively and they believed that this approach can help them in improving their writing skill since it gives full comprehension of writing and serves more interesting teaching learning activities. Therefore, this integrated approach has become the most recommended approach for teachers to improve students writing competences. Keywords: process-product hybrid approach, teaching English writing, students writing skills.

English Learning Enjoyment (ELE) potentially sustains students’ motivation of English learning, especially under China’s fresh context where National English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools issued in 2017 has directed teachers to cultivate students’ core competencies of English as a subject. Its theoretical framework was established by Dewaele and MacIntyre (2014) on Foreign Language Enjoyment (FLE) and then subcategorized by Li Chengchen et al. (2018) into ELE-Private, ELE-Teacher, and ELE-Atmosphere. The three dimensions have thus made it possible for the following quantitative research, where an enormous space remains on senior high school students in China, despite exhaustive studies beforehand with either overseas background or distinctive educational contexts. This quantitative study will concentrate on the general levels of ELE, both overall and for each dimension. Thus with Li Chengchen et al.’s (2018) ELE Scale came the investigations of 351 senior high school students of all grades with diverse academic levels, whose data were analyzed through SPSS in terms of general levels (both mean values and standard differentiations). The results have looked at an intermediate and converging level of Overall ELE with a more prominent level of ELE-Teacher than ELE-Private and ELE-Atmosphere. Inspired by the results comes a disclosure of students’ positivity in English learning under the guise of their inclination to teachers’ efforts instead of automatic drive or constructive environment for authentic language development. Thus an integrated approach is recommended by dint of an elaborate picture of ELE-Private and ELE-Atmosphere to reclaim the lost authentic “self” of senior high school students.
