This review presents seven national asthma programmes to support the European Asthma Research and Innovation Partnership in developing strategies to reduce asthma mortality and morbidity across Europe. From published data it appears that in order to influence asthma care, national/regional asthma programmes are more effective than conventional treatment guidelines. An asthma programme should start with the universal commitments of stakeholders at all levels and the programme has to be endorsed by political and governmental bodies. When the national problems have been identified, the goals of the programme have to be clearly defined with measures to evaluate progress. An action plan has to be developed, including defined re-allocation of patients and existing resources, if necessary, between primary care and specialised healthcare units or hospital centres. Patients should be involved in guided self-management education and structured follow-up in relation to disease severity. The three evaluated programmes show that, thanks to rigorous efforts, it is possible to improve patients' quality of life and reduce hospitalisation, asthma mortality, sick leave and disability pensions. The direct and indirect costs, both for the individual patient and for society, can be significantly reduced. The results can form the basis for development of further programme activities in Europe.

The population was from grade XII- Science students of SMA Dr. Soetomo Surabaya which amount 80 students, from these population was taken 6 students for research sample which used purposive sampling technique, the choosing of this sample chose based from the high of the low self esteem score result in filling low self esteem- measuring scale. The data collection method was using measuring scale which done the validity test and reliability test alpha cronbach..The results of the validity test measuring scale of low self esteem between 0.052-0.557, while the result of reliability test alpha cronbachs is 0.783. The research data was analyze using non parametrik statistic with the technique is Wilcoxon test in SPSS for Windows 16.0 version which got asymp.sig = 0,028. Life expectancy of patients with liver cirrhosis (LC) is dependent upon thepresence of haemodinamic and metabolic complications.Patients with ascites, hepatic encephalopathy and bleeding have lower survival than patients in compensated state. Neverthless the clinical signs of decompensated state are not useful in the individual assessment of LF. Recently we showed that some coagulation factors such as factor VII and prekallikrein (prekk) are good indexes of LF.In fact they clearly differentiate decompensated LC from compensated one and, in a short term follow up. survivors from non survivors. In order to evaluate the relation between factor VII (Mariani1s method) and prekk (Chromogenicsubstrate S-2302) activities and the survivaltime of patients with LF , we studied 23 patients with severe decompensated state and followed them up to 2 years from the hospitalization. The clinical evaluation of LC could be followed in all but 2 patients. Of 21 patients 15 (71%) died,8 for LF and 7 for bleeding, and6survived. The survival of patients was highly related to the activities of prekk and factor VII;patients with higher activities survived more than those with lower ones. There was a significant correlation between prekk (r:0,89 p<0,001), factor VII (r:0,8 p<.0,001) and survival time. The study suggests that prekk and factor VII could be useful test for the identification of patients for liver transplantation.

Individuals with Rett syndrome (RS) present with a complex profile. They benefit from a multidisciplinary approach for diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. In our clinic, the Communication Matrix © (Rowland, 1990/1996/2004) is used to collect data about the communication skills and modalities used by those with RS across the lifespan. Preliminary analysis of this data supports the expected changes in communication behaviors as the individual with RS ages and motor deficits have a greater impact.

Abstract Audiologists have a responsibility to counsel patients with auditory concerns on methods to manage the inherent challenges associated with hearing loss at every point in the process: evaluation, hearing aid fitting, and follow-up visits. Adolescents with hearing loss struggle with the typical developmental challenges along with communicative challenges that can erode one's self-esteem and self-worth. The feeling of “not being connected” to peers can result in feelings of isolation and depression. This article advocates the use of a Narrative Therapy approach to counseling adolescents with hearing loss. Adolescents with hearing loss often have problem-saturated narratives regarding various components of their daily life, friendships, amplification, academics, etc. Audiologists can work with adolescents with hearing loss to deconstruct the problem-saturated narratives and rebuild the narratives into a more empowering message. As the adolescent retells their positive narrative, they are likely to experience increased self-esteem and self-worth.

Abstract. Background: Self-esteem is a major contributor to risk for repeated suicide attempts. Prior research has shown that awareness of stigma is associated with reduced self-esteem among people with mental illness. No prior studies have examined the association between self-esteem and stereotype awareness among individuals with past suicide attempts. Aims: To understand the relationship between stereotype awareness and self-esteem among young adults who have and have not attempted suicide. Method: Computerized surveys were administered to college students (N = 637). Linear regression analyses were used to test associations between self-esteem and stereotype awareness, attempt history, and their interaction. Results: There was a significant stereotype awareness by attempt interaction (β = –.74, p = .006) in the regression analysis. The interaction was explained by a stronger negative association between stereotype awareness and self-esteem among individuals with past suicide attempts (β = –.50, p = .013) compared with those without attempts (β = –.09, p = .037). Conclusion: Stigma is associated with lower self-esteem within this high-functioning sample of young adults with histories of suicide attempts. Alleviating the impact of stigma at the individual (clinical) or community (public health) levels may improve self-esteem among this high-risk population, which could potentially influence subsequent suicide risk.

Abstract. The importance of various trait dimensions explaining positive global self-esteem has been the subject of numerous studies. While some have provided support for the importance of agency, others have highlighted the importance of communion. This discrepancy can be explained, if one takes into account that people define and value their self both in individual and in collective terms. Two studies ( N = 367 and N = 263) examined the extent to which competence (an aspect of agency), morality, and sociability (the aspects of communion) promote high self-esteem at the individual and the collective level. In both studies, competence was the strongest predictor of self-esteem at the individual level, whereas morality was the strongest predictor of self-esteem at the collective level.
