There are divergent perspectives on the effect of the activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria. This study examined fundamentalism and socio-economic development in the North-Eastern zone of Nigeria with particular reference to the Boko Haram movement. Social Movement Theory was employed as theoretical framework for explaining the implication of Boko Haram insurgency for socioeconomic development of Northeast Nigeria. Secondary data were collected to elicit information for analysis. Boko Haram as a sect had resorted to the use of violence. This study shows that the rise in radical movements is mainly explainable by poor socio-economic infrastructures, poor governance and poverty that catalyse rapid increase in the membership of the group.

ABSTRACT The paper aimed to introduce the application of the HEC-HMS hydrological model combination with the CHIRPS (Climate Hazards Group Infrared Precipitation with Station) and GIS to restore flood flow data in the Lai Giang river basin in 2016. The Lai Giang river basin is the second largest basin of Binh Dinh province (after the Kon river basin), it plays an important role in socio-economic development in the North of Binh Dinh province. The simulation results of flood peaks reached 2542,6 m3.s-1 (P=5%). Model test indices such as NSE = 0.93, the correlation coefficient reached 0,78; the percentage of PBIAS error was about 24%, and peak error (PEC) was 52,01.

The article is devoted to the assessment and forecasting of demographic indicators, gross regional product, employment, labor force and unemployment by industry in the Ryazan region until 2025-2050. The article analyzes the trends in the demographic development of the Ryazan region, including the dynamics of fertility, mortality and migration. The consequences of population aging and the peculiarities of changes in the age and sex structure of the region's population are also considered. To solve the problem of modeling and forecasting, economic and mathematical models have been developed that include the parameters of socio-economic development. The social component is based on a systematic approach to forecasting employment, depending on the anthropogenic load index, which takes into account life expectancy and standard of living, literacy of the population, crime rate, ecological state and other indicators of socio-economic development of the region. The economic component uses econometric analysis by types of economic activities in the Ryazan region, as well as time series analysis to predict employment in both the medium and short term. In terms of the labor market, the labor force is forecasted taking into account the socio-economic effect of hidden unemployment. In conclusion, forecasts are made about the dynamics of unemployment in the Ryazan region and the influence of demographic factors on the formation of the labor force.

Statistical methods for comparing objects allow them to study taking into account several features simultaneously, thereby increasing the efficiency of testing. It can be concluded that the methods of multidimensional comparative data analysis can provide specific research instruments of local development. The article presents the proposal to apply to study the level of development of gminas in the Mazowieckie Voivodship two methods of multidimensional comparative analysis, ie. indicator of the relative level of development as well as a synthetic measure which takes into account the zero unitarisation method. The assessment of the development level of gminas was carried out using quantitative characteristics based on data from the official statistics for the years 2007 and 2013.

In the summer of 1967, when Nigeria's first federal constitution had been virtually shattered by two bloody military coups, and when it looked very likely that the Eastern Region might try to secede from the Federation, a military decree was promulgated dissolving the four former Regions, and replacing them by a new structure of 12 States (see Map I). In the following pages the largest of these will be considered, namely the North-Eastern State, in order to assess the prospects of its survival as an entity and of its economic development in the years to come.

An understanding the linkage between human development and poverty in general and economic development in particular is very imperative in emerging economies in the globe. The objective of this paper is to study the regional variation and causality between human development and poverty in the north-east India. The major finding of this paper is that there exists significant regional variation between human development and poverty in the north eastern states of India. While human development is substantially high in Mizoram and Manipur, it is low in other states. On the contrary, poverty is very low in Mizoram and Manipur, while it is considerably high in other states. The estimated results confirmed that human development (and its individual indicators) has a significant role to alleviate poverty in the north east India.
