Background: Rice root knot nematode (M. graminicola) is considered as a major threat in basmati rice. The main characteristic symptoms produced by M. graminicola are terminal hook shaped or spiral galls on the roots and other symptoms of damage include patches of stunted and yellowish plants. Methods: A field experiment was conducted in Kharif season of 2018 and 2019 at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut (UP) to test the efficacy of bio-agents against the root knot nematode. In this experiment, three bio-agents (Bacillus pumilus, Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas florescence) and one chemical (carbofuran) were tested in randomized block design with three replications. Result: It was observed that tested bio-agents and chemical significantly reduced the galls per plant in comparison to the control. At 30 and 60 day after transplanting, minimum (12.7 and 10.0 galls/plant) and (20.9 and 18.8 galls/plant) were recorded with Bacillus subtilis @ 20g/ M2 (2 x 108 cfu/g) during 2018 and 2019, respectively. In case of control, 52.7 and 62.5 galls/plant were recorded at 60 days after transplanting during both years. All the tested bio-agents were found effective in reducing the nematode population, increase the growth parameters and yield of basmati rice.

ABSTRACT The use of humic substances and plant extract has been increasing mainly in organic crop systems without scientific-based recommendations. Research is necessary to evaluate the feasibility and the recommendations of these substances. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of humic substances (humic and fulvic acids) applied by fertigation with and without saponin-based plant extracts on growth and yield of ‘BRS Princesa’ banana. The experiment was carried out using the banana cultivar ‘BRS Princesa’, at a spacing of 2.0 × 2.5 m, fertigated by drip irrigation in a Dystric Densic Xantic Ferralsol, at the Recôncavo da Bahia, Brazil. Treatments consisted of five doses of humic substances (0.0; 70; 105; 140, and 210 L ha-1cycle-1) applied with and without a saponin-based plant extract in a randomized block design in split-plot scheme. The following growth variables were evaluated: number of leaves, pseudostem height, pseudostem diameter, and length and width of the third leaf. The number of fruits/hand and hands/bunch, hand and bunch yield, and length and fruit diameter of the second central hand were evaluated during harvest. The doses of humic substances influenced only pseudostem height. Hand yield, as well as fruit length and diameter of ‘BRS Princesa’ banana were higher in plants fertigated with humic substance and plant extract in comparison with plants fertigated with only humic substance.

The usage of herbal insecticide for leafminer control is based on the principle that organic compounds that are produced by plants to survive from the leafminer are selective, can be digested by the organism, and also can be broken down by heat, oxygen,  and sunshine. This study was to test the activity of  15 plant extracts to find out which kinds of plant extracts had insecticide activity to  Liriomyza Sativa. The study design was a randomized block design, with 17 treatments (15 kinds of plant extract and two controls), and was replicated five times. The trials were done at the glasshouse of Pest and Plant Disease Department of Agricultural Faculty at Udayana University. The results of the study showed that each plant extract that was used in this trial had different insecticide activity to  L  Sativa. The seed coat extract from the seed A. occidentale L. and the extract of P. retrofractum Vahl had the highest insecticide activity to L sativae.

This study aims to determine the effect of the bamboo ash and straw compost on brown planthopper and rice production. This research was conducted in Bakaran, Sukosari Village, Jumantono, Karanganyar in 12ndDecemberMarch 2017. The study was conducted using Complete Randomized Block Design (RCBD) in paddy fields consisting of 16 plots, each was 16 m2 with Bamboo Leaftreatment, Straw Compost, and Chemical Silica with SiO2of 200 kg-1ha dosage. The variables observed were: Population of brown planthopper, stem hardness, plant height, number of tillers, number of productive tillers, weight of 100 seeds, weight of filled seed, hollow seed weight and percentage of hollow seeds. The data obtained were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and if there was a significant difference, it followed by Duncans Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level. The results showed that bamboo leaf ash and straw compost not significan increase the hardness of the rice plant stems and brown planthopper population. Straw compost has the highest potential compared to other treatments because it produces the hardest stem rice and the lowest brown planthoppers population at 11 Weeks. The application of silica from various sources has no direct role in rice production.

Lettuce is the most-consumed leafy vegetable in Brazil due to its ease of preparation, nutritional quality, and affordability. Despite these benefits, there are few cultivars of crisphead lettuce (Lactuca sativa) that possess agronomic potential, high carotenoid content and resistance to nematodes. Therefore, we evaluated the agronomic potential of crisphead lettuce genotypes that are resistant to the root-knot nematode. The experiment was conducted at the Vegetable Experiment Station of the Federal University of Uberlandia (UFU), Monte Carmelo Campus. The trial was set up in a randomized block design with 49 treatments (43 genotypes obtained from crosses between Uberlandia 10000 and Belissima and six commercial cultivars) and three replications. After preparing the beds and before transplanting the seedlings, 11 simple samples were taken from each of the three experimental blocks to confirm the presence of nematodes within the experimental area. The following variables were determined 48 days after transplanting: chlorophyll content, leaf temperature, plant diameter, number of leaves per plant, fresh mass and incidence of root gall. The data were submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and an F-test and the means were compared by the Scott-Knott test. Genetic diversity was represented by a dendrogram that was obtained using the hierarchical method of UPGMA and the optimization method of Tocher. We found genetic divergence and agronomic potential among the evaluated genotypes. Specifically, 199#1#1-E, 199#2#1-E, 199#2#2-E, 199#3#1-E, 199#6#1-E and 75#2#2-E presented good agronomic potential, were rich in carotenoids and showed resistance to the root-knot nematode.

Swampy land is an alternative for rice plant cultivation where the amount of rainfall has an impact on the amount of inundation. In order to provide appropriate water for rice plants, especially during the dry season, an irrigation water system is required for its control.Alternative materials such as dry rubber latex and vermicom-post can be utilized to reduce water use and ensure that water is delivered as efficiently as possible. The goal of this study was to see how dried rubber latex on the soil surface and vermicompost in the soil affected rice plant water demand and growth. This research was conducted from November 2020 – February 2021. The study used a factorial randomized block design (RAKF) with 2 treatments, covered dry rubber latex variations (K), K0 (0%), K1 (25%), K2 (50%), K3 (75%), and vermicompos (V), V0(0 g), V1(58.82 g), V2(117.64 g), V3 (176.46 g)with 3 rep-licat. So that the total treatmentsare 48 treatments. The results showed that the application of dry rubber latex and vermicompost significantly affected the number of leaves and the number of tillers. The K3 treatment (75%) was the best because it had the smallest evapotranspiration rate with an average of 1.2 mm day-1. The K3 treatment (75%) had the smallest average water requirement of 1.6 mm day-1 with an average number of 37.07 leaves. The high yield of K3 treatment was due to the wider the area covered by 75% (K3), the higher the water content, nutrients, and the lower the soil temperature. Closure using dry rubber latex can reduce sunlight so that the process of water loss is lower, and the available nutrients are higher.
