Swampy land is an alternative for rice plant cultivation where the amount of rainfall has an impact on the amount of inundation. In order to provide appropriate water for rice plants, especially during the dry season, an irrigation water system is required for its control.Alternative materials such as dry rubber latex and vermicom-post can be utilized to reduce water use and ensure that water is delivered as efficiently as possible. The goal of this study was to see how dried rubber latex on the soil surface and vermicompost in the soil affected rice plant water demand and growth. This research was conducted from November 2020 – February 2021. The study used a factorial randomized block design (RAKF) with 2 treatments, covered dry rubber latex variations (K), K0 (0%), K1 (25%), K2 (50%), K3 (75%), and vermicompos (V), V0(0 g), V1(58.82 g), V2(117.64 g), V3 (176.46 g)with 3 rep-licat. So that the total treatmentsare 48 treatments. The results showed that the application of dry rubber latex and vermicompost significantly affected the number of leaves and the number of tillers. The K3 treatment (75%) was the best because it had the smallest evapotranspiration rate with an average of 1.2 mm day-1. The K3 treatment (75%) had the smallest average water requirement of 1.6 mm day-1 with an average number of 37.07 leaves. The high yield of K3 treatment was due to the wider the area covered by 75% (K3), the higher the water content, nutrients, and the lower the soil temperature. Closure using dry rubber latex can reduce sunlight so that the process of water loss is lower, and the available nutrients are higher.

Abstract Upland rice with a high yield becomes a priority in rice breeding activities. High yield can be obtained if the rice plant has lodging resistance. This study aims to determine the yield and selection of F7 upland rice lines as the candidate for superior varieties with lodging resistance. The research was conducted in ultisol land, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The study used the experiment method with randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. The treatment used F7 upland rice lines and 5 genotypes as check varieties. The five of F7 lines used were 19I-06-09-23-03, 21B-57-21-21-23, 23F-04-10-18-18, 23A-56-20-07-20 and 23A-56-22-20-05. The five check viarieties used were Danau Gaung, Inpago 8, Inpago 12, Rindang and Situ Patenggang. Data was analyzed using ANOVA and Least Significant Increase (LSI) test. The results showed that 2 lines had a higher yield than the comparison genotypes were 23A-56-22-20- 05 and 23F-04-10-18-18. Hence, the recommended lines as the candidates for superior varieties with lodging resistance are 23A-56-22-20-05 for red rice type and 23F-04-10-18-18 for white rice type.

Silvicultural thinning and burning are common management practices that are widely used to address ecosystem problems such as tree stocking and general forest health. However, high-severity fire has variable effects on soils, resulting in damages which are directly or indirectly reflected on the trace metal chemistry of the soil. This study was conducted to evaluate the trace metal variation at the Bankhead National Forest in Northern Alabama following the silvicultural thinning and burning. The experimental site had treatments consisting of two burning patterns and three levels of thinning as part of an overall treatment of three burning patterns and three levels of thinning applied to nine treatment plots to fit a completely randomized block design experiment. Four treatments sites were used for this study and samples were collected from soil profile pits excavated at representative plots within each treatment. The samples were analyzed for trace metals-As, Cu, Ni, Zn and Pb-using Perkin Elmer 2100 ICP-OES. Post treatment samples indicated that the trace metal concentrations generally decreased with soil depth. Copper, Ni, and Zn at the Pre-burn site gradually increased with depth to a maximum concentration at about 50 cm below the soil surface. Arsenic in the surface horizons increased by 156% in the burn-only sites, 54% in the thin-only treatment, 30% for the burn and thin treatments. Such differences were unlikely due to differences in the geochemistry of the parent material, but likely due to anthropogenic activities and possibly the forest management practices in question.

Rice is an essential food crop besides corn and soybeans. The need for rice each year increases along with population growth. One of the pests affecting rice is the white rice stem borer. The present research aimed to test the effectiveness and to examine the interaction between plant age and the number of Tricogramma japonicum parasitoid. The research was carried out at the Agrotechnology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Khairun University, Ternate, and the rice fields of Bumi Restu village SP I, East Wasile district. The research design operative was a randomized block design where factor A (A1 = 21 DAS, A2 = 42 DAS, A3 = 56 DAS) was the age of the plant, and factor B (B0 = 0, B1 = 50, B2 = 100, B3 = 150) was the number of eggs of Corcyra cephalonica. Biological control using different amounts of Trichogramma japonicum parasitoid led to different interactions and results for each tested parameter. For the number of egg groups, there was no interaction with plant age, but the treatments which were found effective in suppressing stem borer populations were B2 and B3 (100 and 150). The most effective pias as indicated by damage intensity parameter was B3 (150), which was applied to plants aged 21 DAP. Furthermore, for plant height, different number of parasitoids poses significantly effective results. Percentage unhulled grain of pias B3 (150) causes insignificant damage. For production there is no interaction with plant age, but pias B2 (100) shows high yield. The conclusion is that pias B3 (150) applied to 21 days of plants is very effective in controlling white rice stem borer.

Sugarcane crops are grown in almost all regions of Brazil, in various types of soil and under the influence of different climate conditions, which results in diverse production environments as climate factors directly influence the yield and technological quality of a sugarcane crop. The present study evaluated the agronomic and technological characteristics of sugarcane cultivars grown in Af climate conditions. The agronomic traits (natural matter production and the number, length, and diameter of stalks) and technological attributes (Brix, purity, Pol, reducing sugars, total reducing sugars, moisture, and fiber content) of three sugarcane cultivars, IACSP93-6006, RB83-5486, and SP79-1011, were determined in a three-year experiment with a randomized block design using four blocks and two repetitions per block. The cultivars IACSP93-6006 and SP79-1011 exhibited superior agronomic traits compared to RB83-5486, showing better adaptation to the soil and climate conditions of the study area. However, the technological attributes, which were below the minimum standard levels required by the sugar and ethanol industry, were not statistically different among the studied cultivars. The abundant rainfall and high temperatures, characteristics of an Af climate, were not favorable for sucrose accumulation in the IACSP93-6006, RB83-5486, and SP79-1011 cultivars. Therefore, despite the high yield, sugarcane intended for industrial purposes should not be grown under Af climate conditions, owing to the insufficient technological parameters.

Summary Sclerotium rolfsii is a soil borne pathogen responsible for root and stem rot on a wide range of crops. This study was conducted to identify the virulence of different S. rolfsii isolates on a susceptible local peanut germplasm and determine the resistance of 20 peanut genotypes to the most virulent isolate and also the relationship between virulence and mycelial compatibility groups (MCGs). Seventy eight isolates of this fungus from 10 host plants and six known MCGs were used in the experiment. The experiment was done in greenhouse conditions (25±5°C) using a complete randomized block design with three replications. Pots containing sterile soil (pH=6.7) were inoculated with barley seeds colonized by each isolate separately before being seeded with the peanut germplasm. Disease severity was assessed by scoring the wilting, yellowing or death of plants, mycelia or sclerotia production on the soil surface or on plant stem, stem area affected (%) and stem lesion length, at the stage of plant maturity. Also, shoot wet weight and plant height were recorded at this stage. According to the results of the pathogenicity tests, all of the isolates were virulent on the susceptible peanut germplasm and the virulence diff ered signifi cantly between the isolates (P≤0.01). There was no relationship between the virulence of the five groups of isolates identified in the present study and the MCGs. The peanut genotype 140, which was better than the others based on seed size, plant height and the canopy size, was also the most resistant one

The research compared biomass production and nutrient release in an alley cropping system in two collection methods, the litterbag method and the direct collection method (Morley, Bennett, & Clark, 1964). The system was implemented in 2015 at 2017, at the Maranhão Federal University, Maranhão, Brazil. The experiment was a randomized block design with four treatments, consisting of leucaena+sombreiro (Leucaena leucocephala and Clitoria fairchildiana), leucena+acacia (Leucaena leucocephala and Acacia mangium), gliricidia+sombreiro (Gliricidia sepium and Clitoria fairchildiana) and gliricidia+acacia (Gliricidia sepium and Acacia mangium). In order to determine the remaining dry matter, nutrient release (N, P, K, Ca, Mg and Mn), the decomposition constants and the half-lives times of plant residues, 100 g of fresh material were conditioned in litterbags (50 g of each species), arranged on the soil surface. The second method was done by randomly throwing a collector on each plot in the same dimensions of the litterbags (0.40 x 0.40 m) and collecting the litter. For the two methods samples were collected at 0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 days after the start of the experiment. The litterbags method showed a higher C/N ratio at day 30 up to 120 days, which implies that this method is providing a different environment from the litter, where it would be overestimating the C/N ratio and retarding the decomposition. The G+S and G+A combinations were more rapidly decomposed than the combinations of L+S and L+A. The following order of release was established for the litterbags method: P > N > K > Ca > Mn > Mg, and for the method of collecting the litter: N > P > Ca > Mg > K > Mn.

North east hilly eco-region of India is characterized by highly undulating topography and fragile ecology. Here the cultivation of rice on upland and medium land is not a profitable venture to farmers. Therefore, to find out alternative crop with high yield potential cultivars a three year field study from 2008 to 2010 on agronomic evaluation of groundnut cultivars under sub-tropical climate of North East hilly Agro-ecological region was carried out. The experiment consists of fourteen groundnut cultivars (V1- ICGS-76, V2- GG-2, V3- GG-13,V4-TG 37 A, V5-FeESG-10, V6-FeESG-8,V7-K-134,V8-GG-6,V9-SB XI, V10 GG-11,V11-KAUSHAL,V12-GG-4,V13-GG-2,V14-GG-8) as treatment in randomized block design and replicated thrice. Results revealed that highest plant dry weight was produced by cultivar “KAUSHAL” (32.99 g/plant), while lowest was recorded with cultivar “FeESG-10” (16.32 g/plant). However, the highest numbers of pod (25.32) were observed with “ICGS-76”. Cultivar GG-11 had produced highest pod and seed weight (34.80 g/plant and 20.62 g/plant, respectively) as compared to other cultivars, while lowest pod and seed weight (8.96 g/plant and 6.39 g/plant, respectively) with “FeESG-8”. Maximum pod yield (2.06t/ha) was produced by GG-11 cultivars, although highest stover yield (2.37 t/ha) was produced in cultivar KAUSHAL. Cultivar GG-11 had also recorded highest shelling percentage. Therefore, it is suggested that GG-11 a better option for substituting the upland and medium land rice during kharif season for enhancing the farmer’s income.

ABSTRACTInduced systemic resistance in rice plant with plant extract to rice root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne graminicola Golden and Birchfiels)Rice is one of important crop that constantly infected by various pathogens. Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne graminicola) can decrease rice productivity in Southeast Asia. These nematodes have been reported in Indonesia. Currently nematode control is focused on biological control, application of organic and inorganic materials, natural nematicide, and induction of resistance. The study was conducted in the greenhouse Department of Plant Pest and Disease, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran. The purpose of this study was to obtain an effective type of plant extract as an inducer of rice plant resistance to M. graminicola. The experiment used experimental method with Randomized Block Design consisting of 6 treatments and 4 replications. The treatment consists of application of plant leaf extract: kirinyuh (Chromolaena odorata), beluntas (Plucea indica), water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes), spinach thorn (Amaranthus spinosus), control (without plant extract), and carbofuran. The experimental results showed that the extract of beluntas (P. indica) and spinach thorn (A. spinosus) can decrease the amount of gall on the roots of rice plants, and can suppress the amount of juvenile II M. graminicola in 100 ml of soil. Keywords: Induced systemic resistance, Meloidogyne graminicola, Plant extract, RiceABSTRAKTanaman padi merupakan tanaman serealia penting di dunia.
