Faculty are major stakeholders in the California community college (CCC) system’s ability to meet three primary mission objectives: increase student access, prepare students for transfer, and remain competitive. Educational technology (ET) can play a vital role in keeping the CCCs competitive, and modern learner-centric models rely heavily on faculty using ET, but ET is expensive. With 113 CCCs operating in an era of constrained budgets, the efficient allocation of scarce ET resources remains a challenge for the CCC system. Faculty input regarding their use of educational technology (ET) is invaluable, but no published empirical research explores the present and future use of ET by the CCC faculty. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to survey CCC faculty to determine their present ET hardware and software use, and their anticipated ET use five years in the future. Survey data from 655 active CCC faculty were analyzed using t-tests at the p < .05 threshold for statistical significance. Cohen’s D was used to describe the magnitude of anticipated change from current to future ET use. Results demonstrate that CCC faculty anticipate significant increases in their use of ET hardware and software over the next five years. Results also show that 42% of faculty had never been asked about their use of ET by an influencer, indicating that faculty are underutilized stakeholders in ET planning. Combined, these findings can be utilized by CCC administrative decision makers towards meeting their mission objectives by the efficient allocation of scarce ET resources.

The generalized interval-valued trapezoidal fuzzy best-worst method (GITrF-BWM) provides more reliable and more consistent criteria weights for multiple criteria group decision making (MCGDM) problems. In this study, GITrF-BWM is integrated with the extended TOPSIS (technique for order preference by similarity to the ideal solution) and extended VIKOR (visekriterijumska optimizacija i kompromisno resenje) methods for the selection of the optimal industrial robot using fuzzy information. For a criteria-based selection process, assigning weights play a vital role and significantly affect the decision. Assigning weights based on direct opinions of decision makers can be biased, so weight deriving models, such as GITrF-BWM, overcome this discrepancy. In previous studies, generalized interval-valued trapezoidal fuzzy weights were not derived by using any MCGDM method for the robot selection process. For this study, both subjective and objective criteria are considered. The preferences of decision makers are provided with the help of linguistic terms that are then converted into fuzzy information. The stability and reliability of the methods were tested by performing sensitivity analysis, which showed that the ranking results of both the methodologies are not symmetrical, and the integration of GITrF-BWM with the extended TOPSIS method provides stable and reliable results as compared to the integration of GITrF-BWM with the extended VIKOR method. Hence, the proposed methodology provides robust optimal industrial robot selection.

In the post-disaster response phase, an efficient relief distribution strategy plays a vital role in alleviating suffering in disaster-stricken areas, which sometimes becomes challenging in humanitarian logistics. Most governments pre-located the relief goods at the pre-determined warehouses against possible disasters. Those goods must be shipped to the relief distribution centers (RDCs) to be further distributed to the victims in impacted areas upon the disasters. Secondary disasters can occur due to the first disaster and can occur relatively close in time and location, resulting in more suffering and making the relief distribution activities more challenging. The needs of additional RDCs must be determined as well in response to the secondary disasters. A robust optimization model is proposed to hedge against uncertainties in RDCs’ capacity and relief demand. Its objective is to minimize the sum of transportation cost, additional RDC cost, and shortage of commodities. The computational results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model. The sensitivity analysis gives an insight to the decision-makers.

Purpose The present work is a systematic study to understand the cause of poor quality of sliver, roving and yarn due to defective sliver storage can-spring at finisher drawframe machine in spinning preparatory. This study aims to investigate the influence of can-spring stiffness factor, sliver deposition rate and sliver coils position on yarn unevenness and thin places considering two cases of sliver storage time. Design/methodology/approach Combed ring spun yarn samples were produced by varying finisher drawframe variables, which were can-spring stiffness, delivery speed and sliver coils position in storage can. For research design, three-factor three levels of Box-Behnken experimental design was adopted. To investigate the effect of sliver storage time on combed yarn unevenness and thin places, yarn samples were produced at 8 h sliver storage time and without allowing any storage time. Sliver storage time is the time for which combed drawn sliver kept idle in storage cans before feeding to speedframe machine. The 8 h sliver storage time was considered for present study after consulting industrial experts. Adequate numbers of the samples were tested for yarn quality parameters such as yarn unevenness and thin places 50 per cent/km on standard instruments. Finally, the test results were analyzed using statistical software to check the statistical significance of all the independent variables on observed response through analysis of variance. Findings The experimental results showed that the yarn samples produced from older can-springs and bottom position sliver coils stored at 8 h storage time were showing higher yarn unevenness and thin places compared to other yarn samples. The results also showed that the effect of delivery speed is not significant on yarn unevenness for samples produced without allowing any sliver storage time. Research limitations/implications The present study is an outcome of a practical problem experienced at the finisher drawframe machine in a spinning industry. For this purpose, only scrutinized finisher drawframe variables were considered for the evaluation. There are many equally important other factors, which were not considered due to research work feasibility. Social implications This paper investigates the effect of some imperative factors at the finisher drawframe stage on combed yarn quality. The present study will boost existing knowledge of the spinner’s community regarding the effect of can-spring stiffness, sliver coils position and storage time on resultant combed yarn quality parameters. Originality/value The work is original and only a few references are available. The study reveals that storage can-spring stiffness should be chosen carefully for better sliver handling. It is observed that finisher drawframe can-spring stiffness, sliver storage time and sliver coils position play a vital role in deciding quality characteristics of stored sliver and ultimately affect yarn quality.

Purpose: Tear film lipid layer (TFLL) plays a vital role in maintaining the tear film stability and, thus, the lipid composition of the tears could greatly affect the physiological function and biophysical integrity of the tear film. The objective of this study is to assess the tear lipid composition of the patients receiving laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK), femtosecond LASIK (FS-LASIK), or sub-Bowman's keratomileusis (SBK) surgery preoperatively and postoperatively.Methods: Tear samples were collected from the left eye of the patient who receiving LASIK (n = 10), FS-LASIK (n = 10), or SBK (n = 10) surgery in week 0, week 1, week 4, and week 52. A rapid direct injection shotgun lipidomics workflow, MS/MSALL (&lt;2 min/sample), was applied to examine the tear lipidome.Results: In week 52, the SBK group demonstrated a similar lipidome profile compared to week 0, while the FS-LASIK and LASIK groups shifted away from week 0. Two lipids, ganglioside (GD3) 27:4 and triacylglycerol (TAG) 59:3, were found to be associated with the lipidome changes preoperatively and postoperatively. No statistical significance was found in the overall lipid classes from the FS-LASIK group. The LASIK group showed significant alteration in the phospholipid and sphingolipid over time, while the SBK group demonstrated a significant difference in the (O-acyl)-ω-hydroxy fatty acid (OAHFA) and phospholipid.Conclusion: LASIK showed the greatest impact on the tear lipidome changes over time, while SBK demonstrated minimal impact among the three types of refractive surgeries after 1 year.

Despite the vital role and availability of antenatal care, only a small proportion of Nigerian women utilise it. Women’s perception and satisfaction with antenatal care is believed to improve health outcomes, continuity of care, adherence to treatment, and the relationship with the provider. The aim is to ascertain the women’s perception and satisfaction with the quality of ANC services in mission hospitals in Benin City, Nigeria. This cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out among 405 pregnant women in their third trimester. Data collection was with a pretested interviewer-administered questionnaire and analysis with IBM SPSS Statistics version 21.0. Statistical significance was taken as P value <0.05. The women’s perception of doctors and nurses was good for all domains assessed. Their satisfaction was highest for cleanliness of the facility 336 (83.0%) and lowest for amount paid for delivery services 168 (41.5%). The overall satisfaction for services received was high 337 (83.2%). The religion of the respondents, gestational age at ANC booking, payment for booking, the delivery fee and availability of requisite resources to cater for the women showed statistically significance with the overall satisfaction. However, only religion (AOR = 17.450, 95% CI = 3.364-90.508) and availability of requisite resources (AOR = 4.629, 95% CI = 2.426-8.832) independently influenced their satisfaction. This study showed a high level of satisfaction with the services rendered. However, making services more affordable as well as improving their quality through investment in both human and material resources to deliver essential care to all clients will drive better satisfaction among them.

The present research aims to identify predictive relationships of an IT success model with levels of statistical significance, between a set of organizational, technological, individual and environmental variables, and variables of the individual and organizational impacts perceived by the Educators specializing in sign language of some institutions like DIF (state and municipal), Threshold of Educational Technology of the State of Aguascalientes and the Association of Deaf of the State of Aguascalientes. The study consisted in evaluating, through reliability, validity and sensitivity, a prototype of a web development created by students of stay for the Threshold of Technology of the State of Aguascalientes. The pilot study was applicated with the application of the measurement instrument to 20 people between educators, directors, language experts and advanced users of the Deaf Association of Aguascalientes.

Implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury requires all parties to “control, and where feasible, reduce” mercury (Hg) emissions from a convention-specified set of sources. However, the convention does not specify the extent of the measures to be adopted, which may only be analysed by decision-makers using modelled scenarios. Currently, the numerical models available to study the Hg atmospheric cycle require significant expertise and high-end hardware, with results which are generally available on a time frame of days to weeks. In this work we present HERMES, a statistical emulator built on the output of a global Chemical Transport Model (CTM) for Hg (ECHMERIT), to simulate changes in anthropogenic Hg (Hganthr) deposition fluxes in a source-receptor framework, due to perturbations to Hganthr emissions and the associated statistical significance of the changes. The HERMES emulator enables stakeholders to evaluate the implementation of different Hganthr emission scenarios in an interactive and real-time manner, simulating the application of the different Best Available Technologies. HERMES provides the scientific soundness of a full CTM numerical framework in an interactive and user-friendly spreadsheet, without the necessity for specific training or formation and is a first step towards a more comprehensive, and integrated, decision support system to aid decision-makers in the implementation of the Minamata Convention.
