Characterization of native orchid (species) in Indonesia is important for preservation of germplasm and selection process to obtain dominant character of orchids as potential parental. Morphological characterization is a method to obtain scientific information in phenotypic manner. Characterization of plants was carried out on 10 native orchids of Dendrobium genus to obtain specific character. Characterization process based on UPOV guidebook and morphological observation of pollinia was also carried out on 10 native orchids to obtain information about the structure and physiology of pollinia. The results of morphological characterization on 10 native orchid showed several qualitative characters such as flowering position, cross section of leaf, pseudobulb firmness, and leaf arrangement in D. Canaliculatum was different from 9 other native orchid. Morphological pollen of 10 native orchid shows the diversity structure of pollinia and the physiological conditions of mature pollen which are ready to pollinate are pollinia with a golden yellow colored. Knowledge and information about parental relationships is the main point for developing ornamental plant breeding programs. Selection of native orchids as potential elder is important where selected elders will be used as a source of genetic diversity. The results of this study are expected to provide scientific information and phenotypic selection for the development of hybrid orchids.

Ficus spp. belongs to the tribe Ficeae in the Moraceae family. Many members of this genus have been collected and grown in Bogor Botanic Gardens. There are 519 living collections of Ficus conserved since 1817, and 13 of them have not been identified until the species level. This research aimed to identify the Ficus sp. originated from Kaur Selatan (Bengkulu) using morphological and molecular approaches. Morphological characterization and herbarium specimen observation have been carried out to identify the Ficus sp. The molecular approach was conducted through DNA barcoding using ITS primer. The molecular identification using ITS sequence showed that Ficus sp. is Ficus crassiramea with 99.87% similarity to the sequence in NCBI. Morphological observation through herbarium specimen showed that there are 9 vegetative characters specific to Ficus crassiramea.

Peristylus goodyeroides is a terestrial orchid that scattered around Southeast Asia. Morphological characters of P. goodyeroides can vary, depending on the ecological factors and habitat. Cytological characters in the form of chromosome configurations can be used as a taxonomic tool for the process of identifying and understanding variations in taxa. The purpose of this study was to determine the morphological characters and chromosome configuration of the P. goodyeroides from Curug Setawing, Kulonprogo. The method used was morphological characterization and plant chromosome preparation by squash method with the main steps of fixation, maceration, staining and observation. Data were analyzed with the help of Image raster 3, Corel Draw X7, and Microsoft Excel 2013. P. goodyeroides from Curug Setawing has the morphological characters of root tubers, cylindrical stems, ovate leaf shape, convolutive leaf arrangement and creamy white flowers. The orchid has a number of chromosomes 2n = 10 with a karyotype formula of 2n = 2x = 8m + 2t. Metacentric chromosomes are found on chromosomes 1-8 and telocentric chromosomes 9-10. The absolute arm length of the chromosomes has a range of 2.03-3.44 μm, the relative arm length of the chromosomes is 2.21-3.32 μm, the length of the p arm is 1.13-1.58 μm and the q arm is 1.23-2.12 μm.

Abstract The mushroom Agaricus subrufescens has been synonymous with Agaricus blazei and Agaricus brasiliensis during the last decades and there has been much discussion with regards to the origin, distribution, and nomenclature of this mushroom. Therefore, we conducted a genetic and morphological characterization of the mycelium and mushroom of four commercial strains currently cultivated in Brazil (ABL CS7, ABL 18/01, ABL 98/11, and ABL 16/01) together with an assessment of their agronomic behavior and compared these results with those of other strains used during the last 15 years. All the A. subrufescens strains characterized here are phylogenetically related to the Americas/Europe specimens, bearing an internal transcribed spacer region of type A (ABL 16/01) or both types A and B (ABL 18/01, ABL 98/11, and ABL CS7). We did not find any correlation between the morphological characteristics of the mycelial colonies and the agronomic behavior of the strains. Strains ABL 98/11 and ABL 16/01 produced the best yields and morphological characteristics for the mushrooms, indicating their high weight, which enhances the commercialization of the mushroom and justifies their longstanding commercial use over the last 15 years.

A preliminary morphological screening and isolation of bacterial colony from latex industrial wastewater was carried out. Bacteria colonies from latex processing wastewater were isolated from a local latex processing industry. It was found that 17 bacterial isolates had been purified grown on nutrient agar under 35˚C. The colonies were then purified and morphologically indicated via Gram staining and motility test. After morphological observation, it was identified that out of 17 isolates, 9 isolates were Gram positive and 8 isolates were Gram negative. There are 11 out of 17 colonies were rod-shaped bacterial colonies, while the other 6 colonies were cocci-shaped bacteria. There were 11 colonies of gliding bacteria, three colonies were non-motile bacteria and the other three colonies were flagellated bacteria. This study is only limited to morphological observation as the main aim of this study was to investigate the potential occurrence of viable growth in treated latex processing wastewater. The bacterial colonies were classified base on their morphological properties shown. This study has classified several genera such as Staphylococcus, Escherichia, Thiobacillus, Arthrobacter and other Genus. The growth curve of 17 isolates studied and the chemical oxygen demand were determined.

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is a fruit crops belong to the family Anacardiaceae and is the oldest cultivated tree worldwide. Cultivars maintained in Egypt have not been investigated previously. Mango was first brought to Egypt from South Asia. Morphological and molecular techniques were used to identify the genetic diversity within 28 mango cultivars. SSR and EST-SSR were used for optimizing germplasm management of mango cultivars. Significant variations were observed in morphological characteristics and genetic polymorphism, as they ranged from 0.71% to 100%. High diversity was confirmed as a pattern of morphological and genotypes data. Data from the present study may be used to calculate the mango relationship and diversity currently grown in Egypt.

The present paper deals with a description of two new species of crickets of the subfamily Podoscirtinae (Orthoptera: Gryllidae), Trelleora khasiana sp. nov. and Indotrella maculata sp. nov., from India; besides, some additional morphological characteristics of the already reported species, Indotrella angusta Gorochov, 2003 is also presented. The morphological characterization of these two new species is supported with suitable line diagrams and plates. A checklist of crickets of Podoscirtinae for the Asia-tropical region is included.

The research was conducted for the assessment of genetic diversity using both morphological and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis of twelve guava (Psidium guajava L.) varieties growing in Bangladesh. Morphological characterization of guava varieties showed a wide range of variation. The highest variability was observed between Poly and Jelly varieties.Polymerase chain reaction with 5 arbitrary 10-mer and 3 arbitrary 12- mer RAPD primers produced a total of 50 bands of which 75.23 percent were polymorphic. The highest percentage of polymorphic loci (100%) was observed for primer A and the lowest (50%) for A03 primer. The UPGMA dendrogram revealed the segregation pattern and the difference of evolutionary changes. Guava varieties were separated into two main groups, one of them was made up of Chineese, Jelly, Kazi, Apple, L-49, Local-2 and Local-3. The other one was made up of Local-1, Poly, Kashi, Thai and Bombay. The highest genetic distance between Apple and Kazi peyara indicate that these varieties might be interesting in breeding programme for improving trait of interest. The genus Trichoderma contains species that are of a great economic importance due to their ability to act as biological control agents against a large variety of fungal plant pathogens. In the present investigation thirty isolates of the Trichoderma sp. were obtained from the rhizosphere soils of different plants at different locations at Nainital, Almora, Udham Singh Nagar, Derhadun, Haridwar and Tehri Garhwal districts of Uttarakhand (India). The isolates were characterized on the basis of their cultural and morphological characteristics. The cultural characteristics included linear growth, colony colour, pigmentation and growth pattern. Morphological characteristics studied were structure, shape and arrangement of conidiophores, phialides and conidia. Out of thirty isolates, 6 isolates namely PB10, PB13, PB23, PB26, PB27 and PB28 were identified as T. virens and remaining 24 isolates as T. harzianum.

This work aimed to morphologically characterize Eucalyptus dunni and E. urograndis to the application of hydrogel. By determining the morphological parameters of the seedlings and then of the plantations in the field, after the application of the hydrogel, the characterization was carried out. The first stages, was the production of seedlings - where their morphological characteristics were determined. The second was the evaluation of growth in the field - where the morphological characteristics of the plants were determined when applying the hydrogel. The results showed that the morphological characteristics of the seedlings were adequate for the final place (field). In the field, the best result were achieved in T1, thus demonstrating the efficiency of the hydrogel.

Radhatilak, an indigenous tall-indica type scented rice, is presently cultivated in small pockets in 3-4 districts within lower gangetic plains of West Bengal, India. With a view to register as a farmers' variety, its agro-morphological characterization was done at 'C' Block Farm, B.C.K.V., Kalyani, West Bengal during kharif (wet) season of 2012, 2013 and 2014 following DUS test guidelines of Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority (PPV&FRA). The variety has late heading (115-120 days) and late maturity (140-150 days), which produces long-statured plants (130-140 cm height) with no anthocyanin colouration on leaf blade and sheath, nodes and internodes. The colour of lemma and palea is golden-yellow with red or reddish-purple spot at tip at maturity, while sterile lemma is red in colour. The awnless grains are short in length (6.3 mm) with very low test weight (10.95 g). The white- coloured kernels are short-bold in shape with low amylose (18.6%), medium gelatinization temperature (alkali value 3.3) and medium-strong aroma. Twenty three SSR markers were used for DNA amplification profiling of Radhatilak rice against non-aromatic international check variety IR 36. The study could identify two markers (RM 339 and RM 341) which can clearly distinguish Radhatilak and IR 36 (182.39 vs. 143.09 bp and 135.39 vs. 174.97 bp, respectively).
