Porang plant is atubers that havevarious benefits. Porang cultivation needs intensive management through cultivation efforts which of course must be supported by the availability of seeds. Therefore, it is necessary to procure porang seeds from vegetative (tubers) and generative (stem bulbil and branch bulbil). This study aims to obtain the best growing media for porang germination from various types of bulbil. The method used in this study was a factorial randomized block design. The way of working in this research is: Preparation of Seedling Media, Preparation of planting material (Bulbil), Seeding, Maintenance (including watering and weeding). The results showed that there was no significant interaction between the planting medium and the type of bulbil, the media had no significant effect on all observed variables, while the bulbil had a significant effect on the percentage of germination growth, stem height, and number of leaves. The best type of bulbil for breeding is stem bulbil which is superior to the variables of plumule emergence time, petiole length, stem height, and number of leaves compared to branch bulbil. Meanwhile, the best growing media in porang nurseries was a mixture of 50% husk charcoal + 50% sawdust on the variables when the plumule appeared, the percentage of germination, petiole length and stem height. The appearance of bulbil from stems on a mixture of 50% husk charcoal + 50% sawdust media, namely the time of emergence of plumules (5.61 days), percentage of sprouting (86.67%), petiole length (8.72 cm), height stems (31.11 cm) and number of leaves (7.72 strands).

Lettuce cultivation is an activity of great economic importance; therefore, the use of techniques for better use of space and better-growing conditions should be evaluated. The objective of this study was to evaluate the development and yield of garden lettuce grown under different soil coverings and plant spacing. The study was conducted in an experimental area located at the School of Agronomy of the Federal University of Goiás, in the city of Goiânia, Goiás. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with subdivided plots in four replications. The plots consisted of three soil coverings (soil without cover, straw, and plastic cover) and the subplots in three planting spacing (PS1 = 25 x 20; PS2 = 25 x 25; PS3 = 25 x 30 cm), totaling nine treatments. The evaluations occurred when the plants presented their complete development, being evaluated: plant diameter, fresh head mass, stem mass, number of leaves, stem height; stem diameter; relative chlorophyll index; yield; and utilization, corresponding to the percentage of fresh marketable mass. It was found that the use of soil cover can favor the densification of lettuce cultivation. For cultivation on soil without cover or with the use of plastic as a cover, the cultivation spacing must be greater.

ABSTRACT The use of humic substances and plant extract has been increasing mainly in organic crop systems without scientific-based recommendations. Research is necessary to evaluate the feasibility and the recommendations of these substances. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of humic substances (humic and fulvic acids) applied by fertigation with and without saponin-based plant extracts on growth and yield of ‘BRS Princesa’ banana. The experiment was carried out using the banana cultivar ‘BRS Princesa’, at a spacing of 2.0 × 2.5 m, fertigated by drip irrigation in a Dystric Densic Xantic Ferralsol, at the Recôncavo da Bahia, Brazil. Treatments consisted of five doses of humic substances (0.0; 70; 105; 140, and 210 L ha-1cycle-1) applied with and without a saponin-based plant extract in a randomized block design in split-plot scheme. The following growth variables were evaluated: number of leaves, pseudostem height, pseudostem diameter, and length and width of the third leaf. The number of fruits/hand and hands/bunch, hand and bunch yield, and length and fruit diameter of the second central hand were evaluated during harvest. The doses of humic substances influenced only pseudostem height. Hand yield, as well as fruit length and diameter of ‘BRS Princesa’ banana were higher in plants fertigated with humic substance and plant extract in comparison with plants fertigated with only humic substance.
