The bio-fabrication of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was carried out through the facile green route, using the aqueous extract of Matricaria chamomilla L. Herein, we have developed a cost-efficient, ecofriendly, and photo-induced method for the biomolecule-assisted synthesis of AgNPs using an aqueous extract of Matricaria chamomilla L. as a bio-reducing and capping/stabilizing agent. The biomolecule-capped AgNPs were confirmed from the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band at λmax = 450 nm using a UV–visible spectrometer. The stability of the AgNPs was confirmed by recording the UV–visible spectra for a more extended period, and no precipitation was observed in the sol. The morphology and structure of photo-induced biomolecule-capped AgNPs were characterized by different microscopic and spectroscopy techniques such as TEM, SEM, EDX, XRD, and FTIR analysis. The role of phytochemicals as reducing and stabilizing agents was confirmed by comparative FTIR analysis of the AgNPs and pure Matricaria chamomilla L. aqueous extract. The obtained result shows that the AgNPs are mostly spherical morphology with an average size of about 26 nm. Furthermore, the thermal stability of biomolecule-capped AgNPs was examined by TGA-DTG analysis that showed a weight loss of approximately 36.63% up to 800 °C. Moreover, the potential photocatalytic activity of photo-induced AgNPs against Rhodamine B (RB) was examined in the presence of UV light irradiation. The catalyst reusability, the effect of catalyst dosage and initial dye concentration, and the effect of the temperature and pH of the reaction medium were also assessed.

IntroductionIn the present research, we formulated a modern chemotherapeutic drug by silver nanoparticles ‎‎(AgNPs) containing Matricaria chamomilla aqueous extract for the treatment of oral squamous ‎cell carcinoma.Material and methodsCharacterization of AgNPs was done by UV–Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier ‎Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FT‐IR), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and ‎Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE‐SEM). For investigating the antioxidant ‎properties of AgNO3, M. chamomilla, and AgNPs, the DPPH test was used in the presence of ‎butylated hydroxytoluene as the positive control. To survey the cytotoxicity and anti-oral ‎squamous cell carcinoma effects of AgNO3, M. chamomilla, and AgNPs, MTT assay was used ‎on the HSC-4, Ca9-22, and HSC-3 cell lines. ‎ResultsDPPH test revealed similar antioxidant potentials for M. chamomilla‎, AgNPs, and butylated ‎hydroxytoluene. Silver nanoparticles had very low cell viability and anti-oral squamous cell ‎carcinoma properties dose-dependently against HSC-4, Ca9-22, and HSC-3 cell lines without ‎any cytotoxicity on the normal cell line. The best result of anti-oral squamous cell carcinoma ‎properties of AgNPs against the above cell lines was seen in the case of the HSC-3 cell line. ‎ConclusionsAccording to the above findings, the silver nanoparticles containing M. chamomilla aqueous ‎extract can be administrated in humans for the treatment of several types of oral squamous cell ‎carcinoma. ‎

Mortellaro’s disease affects up to 25% of Russia's cattle, which causes significant economic damage to dairy products. The indicators of the therapeutic efficacy of existing drugs vary, and obsolete agents and schemes are used for treatment. A drug was developed and tested using the technology of liposomal silver nanoparticles (Ag) for treatment of Mortellaro’s disease in dairy cows. By comparison and grouping method, the effectiveness of 5 drug samples at different stages of development of infectious and pathological processes in 5 experimental groups of cows was compared with 2 control groups: Group 1 received no treatment, Group 2 was treated with Solka Hoofgel. It was established that sample 2 of the developed preparation with Ag content of 15 ml showed 92-96% of the therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of Mortellaro’s disease, which is higher than that of the analog preparation by 25%. The drug provides the appearance of granulation tissue in the affected areas as early as the fifth day after application to the damaged surface of the interdigital space and the epithelization of the damaged areas after 7 days of treatment.

The epidemic of both obesity and type 2 diabetes is due to environmental factors, but the individuals developing the conditions possess a strong genetic predisposition. Observational surveys and intervention studies have shown that excess body fatness is the major environmental cause of type 2 diabetes, and that even a minor weight loss can prevent its development in high-risk subjects. Maintenance of a healthy body weight in susceptible individuals requires 45–60 minutes physical activity daily, a fat-reduced diet with plenty of fruit, vegetables, whole grain, and lean meat and dairy products, and moderate consumption of calorie containing beverages. The use of table values to predict the glycemic index of meals is of little – if any – value, and the role of a low-glycemic index diet for body weight control is controversial. The replacement of starchy carbohydrates with protein from lean meat and lean dairy products enhances satiety, and facilitate weight control. It is possible that dairy calcium also promotes weight loss, although the mechanism of action remains unclear. A weight loss of 5–10% can be induced in almost all obese patients providing treatment is offered by a professional team consisting of a physician and dieticians or nurses trained to focus on weight loss and maintenance. Whereas increasing daily physical activity and regular exercise does not significantly effect the rate of weight loss in the induction phase, it plays an important role in the weight maintenance phase due to an impact on daily energy expenditure and also to a direct enhancement of insulin sensitivity.

Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) fiber probe provides abundant interaction area between light and materials, permits detection within limited space and is especially useful for remote or in situ detection. A silver decorated SERS fiber optic probe was prepared by hydrothermal method. This method manages to accomplish the growth of silver nanoparticles and its adherence on fiber optic tip within one step, simplifying the synthetic procedure. The effects of reaction time on phase composition, surface plasmon resonance property and morphology were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrum (UV-VIS absorption spectrum) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that when reaction time is prolonged from 4–8 hours at 180 °C, crystals size and size distribution of silver nanoparticles increase. Furthermore, the morphology, crystal size and distribution density of silver nanoparticles evolve along with reaction time. A growth mechanism based on two factors, equilibrium between nucleation and growth, and the existence of PVP, is hypothesized. The SERS fiber probe can detect rhodamin 6G (R6G) at the concentration of 10−6 M. This SERS fiber probe exhibits promising potential in organic dye and pesticide residue detection.
