This study focuses on the impact of remittances on Vietnam’s financial development. The results drawn from its quantitative approach demonstrate that although remittance flows to the country may lead to increase in bank deposits, such increase is not high. On the other hand, reduction in credit demands may be subject to remittance flows, per the financial development based on a few credit growth indicators. In other words, effects of remittance flows, as indicated by VAR model, are not noticeable despite their positive impact, as in examples of increased deposits and remittance payment services on their current growth. Based on these findings, the study suggests several implications that improve the positivity of impact on the financial development.

AbstractThis study empirically investigates the impact of bank profitability, as a complementary measure of financial development, on growth in the Arab countries between 1985 and 2016. Using a generalized method of moments (GMM) estimation to test the impact of the bank profitability on growth, this study utilises two variables in the econometric model which are return on assets and return on equity. This study reveals that both variables of bank profitability are positive and significant. This confirms that the bank profitability, beside other financial development variables, has positive impact on the growth. This study points out some important implications based on this result.

In this paper, the scope is to study whether and how the COVID-19 situation affected the unemployment rate in Greece. To achieve this, a vector autoregression (VAR) model is employed and data analysis is carried out. Another interesting question is whether the situation affected more heavily female and the youth unemployment (under 25 years old) compared to the overall unemployment. To predict the future impact of COVID-19 on these variables, we used the Impulse Response function. Furthermore, there is taking place a comparison of the impact of the pandemic with the other European countries for overall, female, and youth unemployment rates. Finally, the forecasting ability of such a model is compared with ARIMA and ANN univariate models.

This study examines the impact of financial development on energy consumption for a wide array of countries. The estimators used for financial development are foreign direct investment, economic growth and urbanization. The study employed a panel data regression on 136 countries with time frame of years 1990 to 2019. The model in this study deploys system GMM technique to estimate the model. The results show that financial development has a significant negative impact on energy consumption overall. Foreign direct investment and urbanization has significant impact on energy consumption. Also, economic growth positive impact on energy consumption its mean that economic growth promotes energy consumption. When dividing further the sample into different groups of regions such as Asian, European, African, North/Latin American and Caribbean countries then mixed results related to the nexus between financial development and energy consumption with respect to economic growth, urbanization and foreign direct investment. The policymakers in these different groups of countries must balance the relationship between energy supply and demand to achieving the sustainable economic development.

We investigate in this paper the effect of financial development on innovation in emerging and developing countries. The estimation of panel threshold model for a sample 54 countries during the period 1980-2009 shows the presence of non linear effects in the relationship between financial development and innovation. We find a threshold value of economic development below which the financial development level has no significant impact on innovation and above which financial development has a significant positive impact on innovation. In sum, our findings suggest that the presence of a healthy economic environment is crucial for financial institutions to offer high-quality financial services, promoting more innovation.

This research explored the impact of job satisfaction, the ethical behavior of coworkers, successful managers, and employees themselves. Also explored were six types of ethical climate on organizational commitment and its three dimensions, including affective, continuance, and normative commitment through an investigation on 476 Chinese insurance agents. The empirical results showed that ethical behavior of coworkers and a caring climate had a significantly positive impact on both organizational commitment and its three dimensions, while independence climate had no significant influence on overall organizational commitment or its three dimensions. Job satisfaction, ethical behavior of successful managers and employees themselves, and the other five types of ethical climates only had a significant impact on organizational commitment or some of its dimensions.

AbstractWe try to analyze the impact of Chinese Textile and Garment (T&G) imports, and the internal and external factors to the firm survival and growth of T&G industry in Indonesia, for the period study of 2002 to 2007. Probit regression model is used to analyze the impact of Chinese imports to the survival of firm, while OLS regression model is used to analyze its growth. It shows that the ability of firms' survival is influenced by the internal and external factors. The Chinese imports give positive impact to the firms' survival ability. On the other hand, firm's growth is only affected by its internal characteristics, while the impact of Chinese imports is proven not significant. The Heckman test result stated that there are no correlation between firms' ability to survive and the firm growth behavior.

Privacy has long been an important issue for IT systems that handle personal information, and is further aggravated as technology for collecting and analyzing massive amounts of data is becoming increasingly effective. There are methods to help practitioners analyze the privacy implications of a system during the design time. However, this is still a difficult task, especially when dealing with Internet of Things scenarios. The problem of privacy can become even more unmanageable with the introduction of overspecifications during the system development life cycle. In this paper, we carried out a controlled experiment with students performing an analysis of privacy implications using two different methods. One method aims at reducing the impact of overspecifications through the application of a goal-oriented analysis. The other method does not involve a goal-oriented analysis and is used as a control. Our initial findings show that conducting a goal-oriented analysis early during design time can have a positive impact over the privacy friendliness of the resulting system.

Taking the unique advantage of the cryptocurrency market setting, this paper examines the relationships between blockchain participation and returns, trading volume and realized volatility of main cryptocurrencies (i.e., Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin). Dissimilar to previous theoretical studies that model the influencing factors on participation, we employ the number of unique from addresses 1 as the proxy for cryptocurrency investors’ blockchain participation and further explore the impact of such participation. By using vector autoregressive (VAR) model, we find that the blockchain participation has a significant and positive impact on the next day’s trading volume and realized volatility for the main cryptocurrencies. Our results are robust to the Granger causality test and alternative measure for blockchain participation.

This article examines the main mechanisms and tools for implementing innovation policy in countries with fastgrowing economies such as China and India. The study aims to explore the causal relationship between innovation, key macroeconomicvariables and economic growth. The author applies the entropy method and adapts the Graymodel to build a system of indices for assessing the coordination of the interaction of technological innovation, financial development and economic growth. The results show that the degree of integration of the financial system into innovation processes has a significant positive impact on the success of innovation, which is measured by patent activity. Our research proves that innovation indirectly affects economic growth through quality of life, infrastructure efficiency, employment, and rade openness. The findings of the research reveal that both economic growth and innovation tend to depend on a number of conjugate variables in the long run: capital, labor, etc. The author concludes that a comprehensive analysis of technological innovation, financial development and economic growth shows that the three-factor relationship has great potential for coordinated development, as a result of which, according to the calculated forecasts, economic growth in fast-growing economies will significantly accelerate its pace in the next five years. The subject of further research may be an analysis of whether the degree of conjugation of connectivity and coordination between the three systems will maintain stable growth at high values and whether they will be able to reach the stage of transformation.
