To study the effect of teaching decision-making to inmates in a maximum security facility on locus of control 19 adult male inmates who were incarcerated at a community correctional center were pre- and posttested on the Rotter Internal-External Locus of Control Scale. In this preliminary study there was no statistically significant difference at pretest or posttest so teaching decision-making skills in group settings versus teaching in a group combined and one-to-one contact did not affect locus of control as measured. This personality trait appears stable over time and a more thorough means of intervention is required to effect change.

This preliminary study assessed the effect of mirrors in dance instruction on body image and locus of control of women college ballet dancers. With the same instructor in two beginning ballet classes 8 women were taught using mirrors and 13 women were taught without mirrors. Subjects completed the Cash 69-item Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire, and the 40 item Adult Nowicki-Strickland Locus of Control Scale during the first and last classes of a 14-wk. semester. Body-areas Satisfaction increased for the nonmirror class yet decreased for the class taught with mirrors. For the nonmirror class, there were significant increases in Appearance Orientation and Externality. Analysis suggested that the use of a mirror in the teaching of ballet may be an element which contributes to the low body-image scores of the 21 women ballet dancers. Replication with a much larger sample is required to draw conclusions.

The Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale (MHLC) designed by Wallston, Wallston, and DeVellis (1978) belongs to the most popular tests, assessing the health locus of control in respondents on three levels: internal, external, and accidental. The MHLC is used in health promotion programs, in prophylaxis effect. According to authors, the background of this conception is the conviction that internal locus of health control favours pro-health behaviour like taking physical activity, reduce smoking and alcohol drinking, weights control, HIV protection etc. In this preliminary study we would like to exam the health locus of control in anorexia women. The MHLC was curry out in 15 anorectic women (diagnosed by EAT-26) and 39 non-anorectic women, aged 21,7 ± 1,0 years. The results were analysed with the use the Chi-square test.We found the statistically significance differences between anorectic and non-anorectic women in the health locus of control (p< 0,001; Chi=13,24). However, the most of subjects (non-anorectic vs. anorectic, respectively 69% vs. 60%) located the health control inside, more anorectic felt that control on their health depend on the accidence than non-anorectic (respectively, 20% vs. 5%).The results of this preliminary study could suggest that the health locus of control may play the important role in initiate the anorexia behaviour in women.

To explore whether locus of control scores of South African university students show sex differences and differences in academic achievement, 73 subjects (46 women and 27 men) whose mean ages were 36.5 yr. for women and 35.0 yr. for men were given Rotter's Locus of Control scale. Scores students obtained on a final examination in an educational psychology course were recorded. A gender difference was statistically significant, with men scoring internally oriented and women scoring externally oriented. There was no significant difference in academic performance between internally and externally controlled subjects.

The number of violent incidents on women is increasing every year in Indonesia. Some women can survive through traumatic experiences, and it is related to their resilience. Locus of control (LoC) is known to contribute to resilience by enhancing individuals’ self- control and problem-solving behavior. This study aims to determine the role of LoC in trauma resilience among 134 young women (20 – 40 years old) who were exposed to violence (domestic, physical, and sexual) and a minimum of high school education. This study used a quantitative approach with the Locus of Control Scale (α = 0.732, 18 items) and the Trauma Resilience Scale (α = 0.961, 48 items). Two hypotheses are proved in this study: (1) external LoC significantly contributes to trauma resilience (p = .000, R2 = .139), (2) there is a significant difference between violence exposure (<.001), perpetrators (.005), and disclosure to others about their experience of violence (.009). We also found that no participants reported a dominant internal LoC, so future studies are advised to focus on women who were exposed to violence with a more dominant internal LoC.

The Multidimensional Health Locus of Control scale along with 12 belief statements on factors that affect pregnancy was distributed to 209 pregnant women, 74 smokers, 46 smokers who quit prior to or during their pregnancy, and 87 nonsmokers. Analysis of variance and post hoc Scheffé tests on each subscale showed a significant difference among the three groups of pregnant smokers and nonsmokers on the Chance subscale, however, the differences appeared to be of no practical significance. Only two of the belief statements were significantly different between the groups.

The current study focuses on locus of control and the difference in it among different demographic variables such as gender (male and female), course of study (science and arts) and locality (urban and rural) among college students. It is a promising area of inquiry. The age of college students is the age of developing their personality and is a critical context for studying personality. The study was conducted on 171 college student of Gulbarga city who were selected by a random sampling method (lottery method). The questionnaire consisted of personal data sheet, and Rotter’s locus of control scale. Descriptive Statistics and non-parametric statistics as Mann-Witney test (U) were used to analyze the data. The results could not find significant difference on locus of control among males & females, science & arts and urban & rural college students.

Attitude change of nursing students following two group-therapy treatments, involving persuasive communication ( n = 6) and autotelic inquiry ( n = 7), was measured by the Attitude Toward Old People and Opinions About Mental Illness scales. Rotter's Locus of Control scale was used to measure internal vs external orientation. A significant difference from controls ( n = 14) for Interpersonal Etiology on the Opinions About Mental Illness scale was found for the Autotelic Inquiry group ( n = 7) which provided role-induced simulations, but no difference was found for Attitudes Toward Old People or Locus of Control.

Locus of control is a concept examining who are what is responsible of the problems experienced by individiuals. In the most general sense, the values, which we can identify as having the features that make people humans and separate them from other beings, are obtained through modeling from childhood by observing first the parents in the family then adults in society. Especially in the preschool period, where the roots of personality are planted, the behaviors of preschool teachers are very important. The general aim of this research is to determine the locus of control and humanitarian values of preschool education teacher candidates and the relationship between these two concepts. The sample of the study is formed of 238 teacher candidates. Rotter Internal-External Locus of Control Scale, which was developed by Rotter (1966) and translated into Turkish by Dağ (1991), and Human Values Scale developed by Dilmaç (2007) were used in the research. Pearson Product -Moment Correlation, Independent Two-Group T-Test and One-Way Analysis of Variance were used in the research. It was determined that there is not a positively significant relation between the humanitarian values and locus of control of teacher candidates. Furthermore it was determined that there is not a significant difference in humanitarian values sub-dimensions in terms of grades.
