Abstract Suppositories with cocoa butter containing dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) without and with the addition of Span 80 and Tween 80 as surfactants with low and high HLB values were prepared. The physical properties and the drug content of all prepared suppositories were in accordance with the pharmacopoeial requirements. The release study tests in three dissolution media such as water, lactic acid solution at pH 4.2 and phosphate buffer at pH 7.4 were carried out. In acidic and alkalic media only about 10% and 27% of DHEA were released, respectively. The addition of Span 80 to the suppository mass did not improve the release process, but the addition of Tween 80 caused the increase in the amount of DHEA released in the acidic medium to about 35%. The data showed that rectal administration of suppositories with DHEA based on cocoa butter caused about 30% availability and after vaginal administration, only topical activity can be expected. By the addition of Tween 80 to the suppository mass availability of DHEA of about 35% from vaginal suppositories can be achieved.

Hiperurisemia adalah keadaan dimana terjadi peningkatan kadar asam urat dalam darah diatas normal. Tanaman kenikir (Cosmos caudatus) merupakan tanaman yang banyak dijumpai di lingkungan sekitar, serta tanaman yang sudah tidak asing lagi dan telah banyak dikonsumsi sebagai sayuran. Salah satu kandungan dalam kenikir adalah senyawa golongan flavonoid. Pada penelitian ini mikroemulsi ekstrak kenikir digunakan untuk menurunkan kadar asam urat pada tikus yang diinduksi hati ayam. Mikroemulsi dibuat dengan menggunakan virgin coconut oil (VCO) sebagai fase minyak, Tween 80 dan Span 80 sebagai surfaktan dan gliserin sebagai kosurfaktan. Penelitian menggunakan 15 ekor tikus putih jantan galur wistar yang diinduksi jus hati ayam. Tikus dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok, yaitu kelompok kontrol negatif mikroemulsi placebo, kontrol positif mikroemulsi Allopurinol 3,6 mg/200 g BB tikus, serta kelompok perlakuan mikroemulsi daun kenikir  10 mg/200 g BB tikus yang diberikan secara peroral. Pengukuran kadar asam urat dilakukan pada hari ke-0 (kadar awal), hari ke-7 (kadar setelah induksi) dan hari ke-13(kadar setelah perlakuan). Persen penurunan kadar asam urat dalam darah dianalisis secara statistika dengan taraf kepercayaan 95%. Hasil uji statistika menyatakan ada perbedaan antara kelompok kontrol negatif dan positif dengan kelompok perlakuan mikroemulsi daun kenikir memiliki nilai signifikansi 0,000. Sehingga mikroemulsi daun kenikir dapat menurunkan kadar urisemia tikus yang diinduksi ekstrak hati ayam namun memiliki kemampuan yang tidak sebaik mikroemulsi allopurinol. Kata Kunci : Mikroemulsi, Kenikir (Cosmos Caudatus), Hiperurisemia, Ekstrak Hati Ayam, Allopurinol.

Polystyrene is considered stable to biological degradation. Lantinus tigrinus isolated from wood sample produced esterase in growth medium under normal conditions. However, acidic medium, 37 degrees C temperature, presence of tween 80; and urea and yeast extract in mineral salt medium enhance the production of esterase and specific activity. Purified esterase was active at broad pH range and 45 degrees C. FTIR analysis confirmed that esterase produced by Lantinus tigrinus effectively degraded polystyrene film and broke macromolecules down to non-toxic molecules. This study concludes that the presence of Lantinus tigrinus at dumping sites can be exploited for waste management containing high molecular weight synthetic polymers.

Objective: The aim of this study was to incorporate xanthone into Making (Hodgsonia heteroclita) microemulsions and to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the formulations.Methods: Making oil was obtained from the seed of Hodgsonia heteroclite by a screw press machine. The solubility of xanthone in various oils, surfactants, and co-surfactants was investigated. Stable Making microemulsion and microemulsion-based gel were simultaneously loaded with xanthone. Finally, an in vitro xanthone release study was carried out and antioxidant activity was determined.Results: The optimal formulations of the Making microemulsion consisted of Making oil, capryol 90, tween 80, propylene glycol, and water. The average droplet size of xanthone-loaded Making microemulsion was around 110–130 nm. It was found that the stability of the xanthone-loaded Making microemulsion-based gel was higher than the xanthone-loaded Making microemulsion. Besides, the release of xanthone from the Making microemulsion-based gel was lower than that of the Making microemulsion. Moreover, it was found that the antioxidant activity of both xanthone-loaded Making microemulsion (TEAC and EC values of 9.8 mmol/mg and 14.8 mmol/mg, respectively) and microemulsion-based gel (TEAC and EC values of 9.4 mmol/mg and 18.5 mmol/mg, respectively) remained high even after extended storage conditions.Conclusion: It was concluded that Making oil is an attractive material to deliver xanthone in pharmaceutical applications.

Objective: Ivabradine hydrochloride (IH), a benzazepine derivative used to treat cardiovascular disease angina pectoris. In this study IH-loaded novel carrier systems transfersomes (TFs) and conventional liposomes (CLs) were developed and compared for their efficacy to enhance the stability of drugs from degradation. Methods: TFs formulations (TF-1, TF-2 and TF-3) were prepared by using different biocompatible surfactants; tween-80 (TW), span-80(S) and sodium deoxycholate (SC) in the concentration ratio of 15 parts with 85 parts of soy phosphatidylcholine as phospholipid by thin-film hydration method. These vesicles were compared with CLs formulation (L-1) prepared in 7:3 molar ratio of soy phosphatidylcholine: cholesterol by following the same method. These vesicles were compared for physical appearance, vesicle shape, and size, percentage drug entrapment efficiency (%DEE), deformability index (DI), in vitro percentage cumulative drug release study, and physical stability studies. The chosen optimized novel carriers were observed under scanning electron microscopy. Results: The compared data demonstrated that the physical appearance for all vesicles was turbid and had a spherical shape. The size distribution was in the range of 129.0 nm to 273.5 nm in vesicles. The %DEE (79.0±0.94) and DI (35.0±1.9) was found maximum in TF-1 formulation that was 2.3 times higher than L-1 formulation. The in vitro percentage cumulative drug release study followed second-order polynomial kinetics that was 2.0 times higher than L-1and 2.9 times higher than the plain drug in 30 min (90.4±0.06%) from TF-1. The vesicles were found to be stable at refrigeration conditions. Conclusion: Thus, amongst of all vesicles TW loaded TFs (TF-1) was chosen as an excellent novel vesicular carrier for hydrophilic drugs due to its higher deformability behavior than CLs that protects the certain drugs from biodegradation and provides stability.

The irinotecan-loaded double-reverse thermosensitive hydrogel (DRTH) is a dispersed system of irinotecan-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) in a thermosensitive hydrogel. To optimise the particle and gel properties of DRTHs for rectal administration of irinotecan, SLNs and DRTHs were prepared with tricaprin, triethanolamine, Tween 80, and Span 20. Among the SLNs tested, an SLN composed of 1 g irinotecan, 0.5 g lipid mixture, and 0.5 g combined surfactant gave the highest entrapment efficiency and smallest particle size. A DRTH composed of (poloxamer 407/poloxamer 188/combined surfactant/SLN dispersion/H2O (10/15/17/4/54%)) showed easy administration, fast gelling, and strong gel-forming in the body.

Tumbuh-tumbuhan yang berasal dari Indonesia memiliki banyak potensi sebagai bahan dasar produk kosmetika seperti produk antiaging. Sediaan antiaging adalah produk yang bermanfaat untuk menghambat proses kerusakan akibat bertambahnya usia pada kulit. Pengembangan dari formula berbagai sediaan anti aging yang berasal dari ekstrak tumbuhan telah banyak dilakukan, setiap formula pada jenis sediaan yang berbeda dievaluasi untuk mendapat formula terbaik yang memiliki karakteristik yang paling stabil dalam waktu penyimpanan tertentu. Oleh karena itu, pada review artikel ini, berbagai formulasi dan evaluasi pada sediaan krim, gel dan masker peel off antiaging dari ekstrak tumbuhan dikaji lebih lanjut untuk mendapatkan formula paling stabil dengan menggunakan  9 jurnal untuk membandingkan hasil formulasi dan evaluasi  dan 27 pustaka sebagai kajian teori. Hasil review menunjukan formula terbaik adalah formula krim yang menggunakan tween 80 dan span 80 dengan konsentrasi 5,11gr dan 0,25gr, formula masker peel off yang mengandung PVA 12% dan HPMC 2% dan formula gel yang menggunakan Na CMC 2% . Kata Kunci : Antiaging, Masker peel-off, krim, gel
