AbstractIntroduction: In calves, hyposelenosis degenerates skeletal muscles in different parts of the body. The extent of damage to muscle cells can be diagnosed by determining the activity of creatine kinase (CK), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). The aim of this study was to analyse variations in the serum levels of LDH isoenzymes in calves with nutritional muscular dystrophy (NMD), to determine the applicability of this parameter for diagnosing NMD, and to describe the influence of hyposelenosis on total protein (TP), triglyceride (TG), and cholesterol (CHOL) levels.Material and Methods: Two groups of calves (n = six animals per group) were used. After birth, control group calves (SC) were intramuscularly administered 10 ml of a preparation containing selenium (Se) and vitamin E, and experimental group animals (SE) that were not injected. Blood was collected after 5, 15, and 25 days, and the concentrations of Se, vitamin E, TP, TG, and CHOL and the activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), CK, and LDH fractions were determined. Results: Hypocholesterolaemia and elevated TG levels were found in SE group calves whose LDH fractions revealed a significant increase in LDH4 and LDH5 activity and a decrease in LDH1 activity when electrophoretically separated. Conclusions: Nutritional muscular dystrophy is accompanied by hypocholesterolaemia and elevated TG levels caused by muscle lipolysis. LDH4 and LDH5 activity parameters assist early diagnosis of NMD in calves.

Cadmium – a heavy metal, classified as a second class of danger, has a pronounced tendency to accumulate in the body. Absorbed cadmium accumulates in the liver as a complex with metallothionein. The aim of the study was to study the effect of Cadmium on the level of vitamins A and E in the blood of laying hens. For research, three groups of poultry were formed: control and two experimental. The control group chickens were on a regular diet, fed with compound feed and drinking water without cadmium sulfate. To drinking water of chickens of experimental groups for 30 days was added cadmium sulfate in doses: the first group – 2 mg/kg, the second group – 4 mg/kg of body weight. The keeping conditions of the chickens and the indoor microclimate parameters for all groups of birds were similar. After cadmium loading at a dose of 2 mg/kg body weight, the level of vitamin A in the blood of chickens has probably decreased since the 14th day of the experiment. It was the lowest at 21 days of experience. When drinking cadmium sulfate at a dose of 4 mg/kg body weight decreased levels of vitamin A by 4 and 21 days of the experiment, respectively, by 24 and 40% compared with the control group of chickens. When examining the level of vitamin E in the blood of laying hens under cadmium loading, it was found that in the second experimental group of chickens the level of this vitamin was significantly lower than in the control and the first experimental group of chickens. When compared with the control group of chickens, it was found that on the 14th day of the experiment, the level of vitamin E was lower in the first experimental group by 12% and in the second – by 27%, respectively. At day 21 of the experiment, the level of vitamin E was the lowest in the second experimental group, where it was 0.70 ± 0.011 µg/ml, respectively, which is 44% lower than the control. A significant decrease in the content of vitamins A and E indicates not only the pathological condition of the liver, but also the enhancement of oxidation processes associated with a decrease in the activity of enzymes of the antioxidant system. Cadmium compounds have high biological activity, they easily form complex compounds with proteins, nucleic acids, which inactivate a number of enzymes.

Mycotoxins cause severe diseases in organisms of human and animals. They are difficult to diagnose, cause great economic damage. Sorbents are able to effectively bind and remove from the body through the digestive tract with a therapeutic or prophylactic purpose various endogenous and ekzogenous substances, microorganisms and they toxins, supermolecular structures and cells. The aim of the work is to study the effectiveness of use of Alfasorb for the neutralization of mixed fodders affected by mycotoxins and they impact on blood’s indexes and productive qualities of piglets of Large White Breed. Experience was conducted on 30 ty piglets. Animals of the control group received mixed feed that was produced in the conditions of the farm. The pigs of experimental group in addition to the basic diet received Alfasorb. We determined blood’s indexes for study the effect of feed additive Alfasorb on the physiological state of animals at 4 months of age. A morphological and histological study of liver was carried out. The analysis of the average daily weight gain of piglets showed that it was higher in period of growth in the animals of experimental group. In the animals of the experimental groups there was an increase in the number of red blood cells in comparison with the control. An unreliable decrease in blood serum levels which characterize the level of intermediate metabolism of proteins in the body (content of urea, creatinine and common bilirubin) was established in the animals of the experimental group as compared to the control group respectively by 22.83% ( td = 0.98, P ≤ 0.05), 7.12% (td = 1.92, P ≤ 0.05) and by 20.54% (td = 0.86, P ≤ 0.05). Most hepatocytes had large nucleus and intense color of the cytoplasm. This indicates the absence of alterative processes in the body. The results of the studies make it possible to assert that the inclusion the 0.2% Alfasorb to the compound of feed which contaminated with mycotoxins significantly reduces their negative effect on the piglets organism, has a positive effect on the growth rate, on the course of metabolic processes, also it promotes an increase in the liver of medium-sized hepatocyte nuclei, stimulates biosynthetic processes in that cells and ensures the formation of a full structure of histohematological barriers in the organism.

The aim of this study was to estimate changes in selected biochemical indicators during nutritional muscular dystrophy of calves and to use electrocardiography technique in early diagnosis of this disease. The study was performed on 24 Holstein-Friesian calves of both sexes, divided into two groups. The first one was experimental group of 12 calves with symptoms of nutritional muscular dystrophy and the second one was control group of 12 clinically healthy calves administered a single i.m. injection of vitamin E + selenium preparation on the second day after birth. Blood samples were collected from all animals 3 × at 7-day intervals, starting on day 5. Blood serum was subjected to biochemical analyses to determine Se and vitamin E concentrations, aspartate aminotransferase, creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase activity levels. The activity of glutathione peroxidase was determined in whole blood samples. Electrocardiographic assessment was performed on day 19 in all calves. In the group of calves with symptoms of nutritional muscular dystrophy, serum Se and vitamin E concentrations were significantly (P ≤ 0.01) lower than in control, the same was true for the activity of glutathione peroxidase (P ≤ 0.01). The changes were accompanied by an increase (P ≤ 0.01) in the activity of aspartate aminotransferase, creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase. The electrocardiograms of experimental animals revealed elevated heart rate, accelerated sinus rhythm, increased P wave amplitude, shorter PR, QT and ST interval, narrower QRS complex, shorter T wave duration and insignificantly increased T wave amplitude; these results were indicative of arrhythmia which is observed at early stages of cardiomyopathy. This study is the first one in which electrocardiography technique was used to diagnose nutritional muscular dystrophy in calves.

Summary. The disbalanced feeding and the uneven distribution of micro- and macroelements in the environment leads to a trace element, in particular hypomelanosis. To accelerate the growth and preservation of young farm animals include in the diet of various biological additives and drugs, which include selenium. For stimulation of weight gain in the livestock industry, as well as for the prevention and treatment of pathological processes in addition to micro - and macrouse amino acids, primarily methionine. The aim of this work was to study the influence of composition of DAFS-25+Polizon on morpho-biochemical parameters of blood and functional state of the liver in fattening bulls of black-motley breed in the conditions of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Experiments using were conducted on bull-calves of black-motley breed of the properties in the properties age from 6 to 15 months. The first experimental group during the experiment was additionally given the composition of DAFS-25+Polizon at a dose of 2 mg/kg, the animals of the control group received a standard diet. To assess the impact of the composition DAFS-25+Polizon on metabolism cattle studied morphological and biochemical indicators of blood and conducted histological examination of the liver. It is established that the use of the composition of DAFS-25+Polizon at a dose of 2 mg/kg increases the number of erythrocytes and hemoglobin in the experimental group and reduces the amount of white blood cells. The serum content of total protein, phosphorus and calcium increases in the group of experimental animals. Microscopic examination of the liver revealed no changes in the structure of the organ and hepatocytes in the experimental group, whereas in the control group hemodynamic disorders and dystrophic changes in liver cells were observed. Thus, the use of the composition DAFS-25+Polizon at a dose of 2 mg/kg of live weight in fattening bulls black-and-white breed contributes to the increase of redox processes in the body, stimulation of metabolism, prevent the development of liver disorders of cellular mechanisms of metabolism, optimizes the structure of the liver, which generally provides higher productivity.

Animals imported to Yakutia from other regions fall into feeding and housing conditions that differ from their usual agro-climatic conditions, which causes the problem of their adaptation. Yakutia is one of the areas where the feed of its own production has a lack of basic minerals, which affects the health and productivity of animals, which has an additional negative influence on the adaptation process of imported cattle. In order to replenish macro- and microelements in the body, it is necessary to introduce various local mineral feed additives, premixes, and use mineral salts into the ration. Under the conditions of Central Yakutia the influence of local mineral feed additives (zeolite of the Khonguruu Deposit in the Suntar district and sapropels of local lakes) containing macro- and microelements that increase the meat productivity of steers has been studied. As a result of the research the influence of local mineral feed additives on meat productivity and physiological condition of Hereford steers has been established. Influence of zeolite and sapropel in a complex with mineral salts on digestibility of nutrients of the ration and use of nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus by experimental animals has been defined. The influence of feed additives on the quality of meat products has been studied. The results have shown that the use of local mineral feed additives in the composition of ration of steers during the fattening period at a dose of 0,7 g zeolite per 1 kg of live weight of the animal and 200 g of sapropel in combination with 10 g of mineral salts contributed to the gain in live weight, carcass weight, carcass yield, yield of edible parts, and economic efficiency of fattening. For the entire period of the experiment the gain in live weight in groups was: in control group 2222,9 kg, in the 1st experimental group 2396,2 kg, in the 2nd experimental group 2471,1 kg. The total economic effect for the 1st experimental group for the period of experiment amounted to 44,3 thousand Rubles, for the 2nd experimental group 78,0 thousand Rubles or per 1 head/day 14,06 and 24,76 Rubles, respectively.

Mycotoxins have been formed in feed are secondary metabolites of fungi and are quite stable substances that have teratogenic, mutagenic and carcinogenic effects. An effective way to combat mycotoxins in feed is the use of feed additives that adsorb toxins, prevent their absorption in the gastrointestinal tract of the animal and are excreted from the body. The infl uence of coconut enterosorbent Shelltic Es on fattening and meat qualities of young pigs has been studied. It has been found in the process of fattening that the highest feed digestibility was in pigs of the experimental group, in the diet of which enterosorbent has been added. The results of studies of the chemical composition and technological properties of pork have been provided. The positive eff ect of enterosorbent on precocity, absolute average daily gain of live weight and reduction of feed expenditures per 1 kg of gain has been revealed. In pigs from the experimental group the average thickness of the fat was higher and the area of the “muscle eye” was lower compared with animals of the control group, which indicates that higher rates of carcass yield have been obtained due to faster accumulation of fat tissue. The weight of internal organs of pigs indicates the intensity of metabolic processes in the body. In experimental animals the weight of the lungs was 0,1 kg lower, and the liver and heart were higher by 0,13 and 0,01 kg, respectively. Enterosorbent had no effect on the content of vitamins in the liver of pigs of the compared groups. The content of impurities of organochlorine toxicants and toxic elements in the meat and liver of animals of the experimental group was lower than that of control analogues. Therefore, the use of enterosorbent Shelltic Es promotes more active excretion of them from the body.

AbstractWe explored how viewing one’s anthropometric virtual avatar would affect the viewer’s self-body perception through the comparative evaluation of self-concepts—self-esteem and self-compassion, within the framework of allocentric lock theory. We recruited 18 female adults, aged 18–21, who identified themselves to have some level of body image concerns, and who had had no clinical treatment for their body image. Participants were randomly assigned either to the experimental or control group. The experimental group participated in both body positivity program and virtual avatar program, whereas the control group attended the body positivity program, only. The results affirmed that the body positivity program served as a psychological buffer prior to the virtual avatar stimulus. After the virtual avatar experience, the participants demonstrated self-acceptance by lowering their expectation on how they should look like. The findings from exit interviews enriched the quantitative results. This study verified the mechanism of the altered processing of the stored bodily memory by the egocentric sensory input of virtual avatars, and offered practical potential of the study outcomes to be applied in various emerging fields where novel applications of virtual 3D technology are sought, such as fashion e-commerce.

Objective: The operating procedure of a resternotomy in open-heart surgery is a complicated procedure with potentially problematic outcomes partly due to potential adhesions in the pericardial cavity and retrosternal space. Use of a collagen membrane has shown encouraging results in adhesion prevention in several regions of the body. This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of this collagen membrane in the prevention of pericardial adhesions. Materials and methods: A total of 12 pigs were divided randomly into 2 groups: an experimental group in which collagen membranes were used and a control group. After sternotomy and an anterior pericardiectomy, the epicardial surface was exposed to room air and irrigated with saline, and an epicardial abrasion was performed using a sponge. The pericardial defect was repaired using a collagen membrane in the experimental group or left uncovered in the control group. After 8 to 12 weeks, the pigs were killed, and a resternotomy was performed by a single-blinded surgeon enabling the evaluation of adhesions. The heart was then removed and sent for microscopic assessment conducted by a single-blinded pathologist. Results: The resternotomy operations performed using a collagen membrane demonstrated a nonstatistically significant trend of fewer macroscopic and microscopic adhesions in all regions ( P > .05), particularly in the retrosternal and defect regions. Conclusions: This study showed nonstatistically significant differences between the outcomes in the collagen membrane group and the control group in both macroscopic and microscopic adhesion prevention. Due to the many limitations in animal study design, further studies in human models will be needed before the true value of this procedure can be evaluated.
