Abstract The long-distance public transport services among the eight regional centres of Slovakia, representing the key urban locations with concentrations of most of the country’s services, including business, educational and financial institutions, as well as political power, are examined in this article. It is assumed that the mutual transport interconnections within this group of cities will be a focus for public transport operators in their attempt to gain the largest possible share of potential customers, passengers who would otherwise be users of individual transport means. Hence, one of main aims of this study is to compare public and individual transport modes, and the possibilities offered by them in the mutual interconnections of major regional centres in the country

Abstract   The demand for rural public transportation is dominated by people who cannot access private vehicles. In terms of the number of operating routes and the performance of their services, currently rural public transport services tend to decline. The mobility of rural communities to reach social facilities can be hampered if there is no public transportation service, which in turn will reduce the quality of human resources in rural areas. This study focuses on the movement characteristics of rural public transport passengers in Kuningan Regency. Several rural transportation routes were taken as samples, namely route 030 Cilimus-Linggarjati, route 061 Cilimus-Mandirancan, and route 037 Lengkong-Rancakeusik. This study shows that the characteristics of the movement of rural public transport passengers are an integral part in an effort to maintain rural public transport services. These characteristics of passenger movement can be used to improve the performance of public transportation, become input for public transport operators, and become material for local governments to make policies   Keywords: rural public transportation; public transport routes; public transport services; public transport performance. The spatial and economic growth of cities and regions is heavily influenced by transportation. A better knowledge of public transportation will help to clarify the positions of the public and private sectors, as well as recognize the critical government position. To study the problems and issues of the public transportation system, Qasimabad, Hyderabad is selected as a study area due to some serious issues of public transportation. Personal observations and questionnaires were used to gather data from the research area. And for analyzing the data SPSS and MS Excel are used. The results reveal that the existing public transportation system is not meeting the needs of residents. Hence use of private transportation is high and causing environmental and traffic jam problems. As 68% of respondents use a motorbike for recreational purposes, 64% of respondents are not using public transport due to safety factors. In general, 54% of respondents were not satisfied with the service of public transport. As people are willing to use public transport but due to some factors such as safety, they are not using public transport so it is suggested that both vehicles and roads must be safe for users. This study aims to study the existing scenario of public transportation in terms of services and facilities, and people’s perception about public transportation. So it is concluded that people are tending to use public transport but under some certain conditions (factors preventing the use of public transport), if these concerns are solved then public transport system will become more efficient.

With the increase in the number of public and private buses in cities in recent years, managing the bus fleet across various routes in an efficient and effective manner has become cumbersome. This is resulting in suboptimal services, inability to effectively cater to existing demand, and poor quality of public transport services.  Modern technological advancements have created a tremendous opportunity to improve various aspects of public transport services, to not only serve existing demand but attract increasing number of passengers to public transport from a sustainable development standpoint.  One such area which is gaining momentum is intelligent fleet management using the concept of Internet of Things (IoT).  This area calls for a cross-field collaboration between engineers from various disciplines to use the up and coming idea of Internet of Things (IoT) for overcoming the challenges of intelligent fleet management. This paper explores the opportunity for incorporation of IoT to manage bus fleets based on the occupancy ratio and the resulting benefits that can be achieved in terms of fleet frequency optimization.

Flood disaster in the urban area can have an impact on the transport of people, goods, and animals. It will certainly result in the disruption of public transportation activities because the road and utilities are probably cannot be passed by vehicles. The objective of the research is to contribute to the analytical basis related to urban public transport services resilience evaluation during the flood. The simulation model is based on the assumption that the primary objective of an urban public transport service during a flood disaster is to continue serving passengers on a predefined service corridor. An example of the application and analysis of this simulation model, simulated for three floods condition, i.e. the first is a high flood prediction that may occur in Padang city (based on The Padang City Development Planning document) and two floods that hit in the year 2016 and 2017. These simulations showed that urban public transport service in Padang city is relatively vulnerable to flood disaster. Lesson learned here have implication for urban public transport services. An interesting outcome of this simulation model has obtained the deviation of urban public transport service route during the flood. There are many parameters that affect the resilience of urban public transport services in the face of floods, and these parameters could be a topic for future research

Abstract Despite of increasing volumes of individual passenger transport and growing dependence of the post-socialist societies on the passenger car, public transport is still inevitable for certain communities. Its social and environmental aspects are obvious reasons why public transport remains within the scope of state and regional policies as a mixture of public and commercial services. Long-distance and international overground public transport represents a higher standard of travelling of considerably commercial nature. An important feature of this segment of the public transport is its capability to compete with individual transportation for long-distance journeys. The commercial character of the long-distance public transport should motivate operators to run territorially effective links covering adequately populated communites and regions with high demand for this segment of public-transport services. This study deals with several territorial aspects of the network of long-distance and international bus and train links of public transport in the Slovak Republic. The network of communities having direct access to the high-standard modes of public transport has been identified, revealing some of their spatial patterns and focusing on categorization of urban settlements by selected parameters of high-standard public transport services. The relationship with the population size of the urban settlements is assessed in the study, too.

Create, maintain and development of public transport network in metropolitan are important problems in the field of urban transport management. In public transport, maximize the efficient use of public fleet capacity has been considered. Concepts and technologies of GIS have provided suitable way for management and optimization of the public transports systems. In demand-responsive public transportation system, firstly fellow traveller groups have been established for applicants based on spatial concepts and tools of GIS, second for each group according to its’ members and their paths, a public vehicle has been allocated to them then based on dynamic routing, the fellow passenger group has been gathered from their origins and has been moved to their destinations through optimal route. The suggested system has been implemented based on network data and commuting trips statistics of 1 to 6 districts in Tehran city. Evaluation performed on the results show the 34% increase using of Taxi capacity, 13% increase using of Van capacity and 10% increase using of Bus capacity in comparison between current public transport system and suggested public transportation system has been improved.

Reduced interest in the use of city public transport services because there are still many public transport facilities that do not attach importance to the convenience of service users and the absence of alternative tariff options for long distance or short distance, so service users choose to use other transportation services that can answer their needs, such as transportation online that already exists in Purwakarta today.            In this case the author is very interested in conducting research, with the title "The Influence of Perceptions of Comfort and Price Against Interest in the Use of City Public Transportation Transportation Services in Purwakarta District".            The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of perceived comfort and price on the interest in using the City Public Transport Service in Purwakarta Regency. In this study respondents were users of public transportation services in Purwakarta using sampling techniques called Non-Probability Sampling.            The research method used is descriptive qualitative method, which is a method that is done by collecting, presenting and analyzing data that gives a clear enough picture of the object under study. This study uses a multiple linear regression analysis model with the help of IBM SPSS 21 program.            Hypothesis This study shows that the variables of perceived comfort and price have a positive and significant effect on the interest in using public transportation services in the city of Purwakarta.

Public transportation is becoming more and more importance in big urban centers, as it is a key ingredient to sustainable cities. Still, richer and more diverse public transport services imply increased complexity to the users of such services. In this chapter, the authors address the problem of journey planning for public transport users. This problem can be described as finding the best route between two given points in a city taking into account the available public transport services. The authors describe and compare traditional approaches that are already deployed in most cities. They then focus their attention on new and promising alternatives that become possible with the emergence of user-centric vehicular ad-hoc networks, complemented with roadside infrastructure. The authors discuss the benefits and challenges behind this new approach for journey planning in public transportation, and propose directions for possible solutions.
