Popular scientific books are books that adhere to scientific standards and are displayed in common language and attractive layouts so that the public is more interested in reading them Starfish (Asteroidea) is an animal that plays an important role in the coastal environment, namely as the bioindicator of the water's contamination. One of the pristine waters of the beach and has a high enough biological richness is Gili Ketapang, Probolinggo beach. This research aims to determine the level of diversity of Asteroidea in Gili Ketapang beach, Probolinggo. This research is a type of quantitative descriptive research with the method of Transect plotting. The results of this study found 2 types of Asteroidea with a total of 100 individuals. Asteroidea is found in 1 family, 1 genus and 2 types of Asteroideans. The type of Asteroidea is a family of Archasteridae, a genus of Archaster and the type of Archaster typicus and Archaster angulatus. The value of the diversity index of Asteroidea in Gili Beach Ketapang Regency of Probolinggo is 1.323

This paper aimed to point out the determinants of the effectiveness of Municipal Management in Brazil. It was a quantitative, descriptive research, with secondary data from 2015 to 2017, available at the Rui Barbosa Institute web site – 11 variables correlated with the effectiveness of management. The sample was comprised of Brazilian municipalities. The results were estimated by logistic regression with balanced panel data and interpreted by the odds ratio criterion. The results showed that population size and the mayor’s reelection have a positive and statistically significant relationship to explain the effectiveness of management. On the other hand, the number of candidates for mayors, and disapproved expenses showed a negative and statistically significant relationship to explain the effectiveness. By addressing the effectiveness of municipal management, this article fills a gap in the literature because it brings to the debate the relevance of the evaluation phase of the public management to improve its quality and/or mitigate negative impacts on the population.

The reform of the Indonesian NationalPolice (Polri) requires the change in the behaviour of its members to be more professional in their service to the public. ESQ 165 Training is chosen as one of the programs in an attempt of character building of the members of the Subregional Police (Polres) of Ciamis. ESQ 165Training is character-building training categorized as a type of motivation training which uses comprehensive and sustainable spiritual engineering. This research aims to evaluate ESQ 165 Training in an attempt to build the character of the members of the Subregional Police of Ciamis. The theory utilized in this research is Kirkpatrick’s Framework which consists of four studied levels, namely reaction level, learning level, behavioural level, and result level. This research uses a quantitative descriptive research method. Data-gathering technique uses questionnaires distributed among 179 members of the Subregional Police of Ciamis who has participated in ESQ 165 Training, observation and interviews. The result of the research shows that 87.9% of the respondents likes the training (reaction level), 92.6% of the respondents understand the material of training (learning level), respondents shows changes in motivation, attitude and behaviour (behaviour level), and the public appreciate the performance of the Subregional Police of Ciamis which has undergone significant changes (result level). Therefore, ESQ 165 Training can be recommended as one of training methods utilized in character building.

Abstract. The aims of this research was to examine the water quality parameters and plankton abundance and its relationships in the Southwestern of Indian Ocean. This is a quantitative descriptive research. Planktons were sampled using plankton net, and water samples were taken using Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD) where the water samples colleted in the Nansen Bottle No. 1 (surface water) at seven sampling stations. The results showed that there were 25 species of planktons belonging into seven classes, i.e., Bacillariophyceae, Ciliate, Crustacea, Cyanobacteria, Dinophyceae, Flagellata, and Maxillopoda. The highest value of abundance of plankton was found at station 6 with 7255 ind. L-1, the value of diversity index of plankton was at moderate category,  and there was no predominant species was occurred in the community. Bivariate correlation analysis results of Person's showed that the temperature and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) were positively correlated to the plankton abudance, while pH, conductivity, TDS, salinity were negatively correlated with abundances of plankton. Keywords: Abundance of plankton, linkages, water quality, Indian Ocean of Southwestern Abstrak.

The regional head election, a local political event and a symbol of democratic government, is a contest for a legitimized power of regional leaders, who are given authority and responsibility to administer and lead the regional apparatus and development. Since the Indonesian reformation era, the policy regarding the regional head election has shifted from being elected by the local legislative assembly (representative system) to being elected by the people directly (direct election). Anchored in the quantitative descriptive research design, in which the data was garnered from documentation, this study aims to examine the extent to which the people partook in the first round of the direct and simultaneous regional head election in 2015. The collected data was analyzed by means of the participatory and democracy approach within the local political landscape. The empirical findings showed that the public participation in the local election remained low given the statistical evidence (64.02% of the total voters). The study demonstrates that despite the provision of the political stage within the local scope, it does not fully encourage the people to exercise their political rights.
