Abstract Coral trout is one of marine fishery commodities with high economic value. This grouper fish has limited ability in the utilization of artificial feed. The aim of this study was to obtain information on the effectiveness of probiotics and prebiotics inclusions in diet to increase growth of coral trout. Fish was reared in fiber tanks 300-L with a density of 30 fish/tank. Fish weight and length were 3.7±0.1 g and 6.3±0.1 cm, respectively. Each tank was equipped with a flowing water system and aeration as a source of oxygen supply. The feed was formulated with 48% protein and 9% lipid. Treatments were inclusion of probiotics in diet (diet A), inclusion of mannan oligosaccharide/MOS (diet B), inclusion of probiotic + mannan oligosaccharide/MOS (diet C), and diet D as control. The study was conducted in a complete randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 4 replications. Fish fed trial diets with a frequency of 3 times a day at satiation. The parameters observed were growth, feed efficiency, feed digestibility, bacteria density and immunity. The data obtained were analysed with anova followed by LSD. The results showed that diet with the probiotic content promoted better growth and feed efficiency of coral trout compared to the other treatments. The highest growth of coral trout fingerlings was obtained by fish fed diet A (added with probiotics) with a weight gain of 794.86%. While fish fed diet containing probiotics and prebiotic (diet C) showed a lower growth response (weight gain 641.26%) than those fed diet with probiotics and prebiotics (MOS) separately. Survival during the study for all treatments ranged from 90.00% to 93.33%.

Snakehead (Channa striata) is a fish that grows relatively slowly, but is a typical Sumatran fish with high albumin content and economic value. This makes this fish a very prospect to be developed. Meanwhile, dragon fruit peel is one of the wastes that can be used for diet raw materials and contains vitamins and minerals that have the potential to be useful for increasing growth in fish. This study aims to determine the growth performance of snakehead fed by adding dragon fruit peel flour. This study used test animals, namely snakehead fish juvenile with the size of 1.06 ± 0.02 g/fish. The experiment of fish reared in aquarium measuring of 35cm x 45cm x 90 cm, filled with water as high as 15 cm without aeration. The experiment diets consisted of 5 types, namely feed added with 0% dragon fruit flour (control); 0.5; 1.0; 1.5 and 2.0% of feed. Each treatment was repeated three times. Snakehead was reared for 60 days and fed three times a day on an ad satiation basis. The parameters observed in this study were the survival rate and growth performance of snakehead fish. The results showed that the survival rate between treatments was not significantly different, namely in the range of 97.76 - 100%. Meanwhile, the specific growth rate and feed efficiency of snakehead which added 2% to the diets were the highest, namely 8.66 ± 0.04%/day and 67.83 ± 2.31%/day. The conclusion of this study was the addition of dragon fruit peel flour at 2% enhanced the growth performance of snakehead.

The study was conducted at Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur, Bangladesh to determine the nutritional composition and economic value of hydroponic wheat sprouted fodder (HWSF) replaced by commercial concentrate feed (CCF) and it’s effect on growth performance of turkey. A total of 75 poults were selected and randomly assigned into five groups (T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5), each group with 3 replications having 15 birds in each. T1 considered as control group and fed only CCF, where T2, T3, T4 and T5 groups fed 95, 90, 85 and 80% CCF along with 5, 10, 15 and 20% HWSF, respectively. The amount of DM, CP and NFE were significantly higher (P<0.01) in hydroponic maize sprouted fodder than hydroponic wheat and sesbania sprouted fodder where Ash, OM, CF, DM and EE were not significant. Live weight of turkey was increased in T1 (2074.86 g), T2 (2130.4 g), T3 (2125.75 g) and T4 (2085.53 g) except T5 (1959.4 g) groups. The live weight gain was almost similar in the turkey of T2 (29.55 g/d), T3 (29.26 g/d), T4 (28.44 g/d) and T1 (27.69 g/d) groups except T5 (23.85 g/d) group. The lowest but best feed efficiency was observed in T2 (2.60) group. Cost benefit analysis showed higher benefit in T2, T3 and T4 than in T1 and T5 group. Therefore, the overall results revealed that dietary supplementation of HWSF up to 15% may improve live weight, feed efficiency of turkey as well as reduce total feed cost. Res. Agric., Livest.
