This research used a descriptive method to explore the needs of tenth grade students in learning English writing. In order to achieve this purpose, classroom observation, questionnaire, and interview were conducted to collect the data. In addition, several related documents such as 2013 curriculum, syllabus, the current English textbook used were analyzed. The results showed that the students are in intermediate level. Moreover, they had difficulties to write in correct grammar. Furthermore, there was also a need to provide the topics related to art and culture and daily life in the language material. Malay culture became the choice of the students to be the theme of their learning material. Moreover, the learning material needed to be completed with the teacher’s book which could give guidance to the teacher about the instruction or method that could be used in the classroom. Finally, the findings would be used as the base for developing the English writing material.

The objective of this study was to develop learning material on descriptive text based on the students’ needs as a supplementary material. This research was conducted as research and development (R & D) design. The data were taken from the books, internet and environment. The instruments used in this research were questionnaire and interview. The product of this study was a set of learning material that can be used as a supplementary material. The developed learning material consisted of two units, namely: Describing peoples which was consisted of two texts namely describing public figure (Jokowi Dodo) and describing an Idol (Agnes Monica) and Describing places consisted of three texts namely; Azizi mosque, Tangkahan and Bukit Lawang. Each of the text consisted of two kinds of exercise and in the last page of the product were provided the answer keys. Keywords: Reading Learning Material, Supplementary Material, Descriptive text.

This research aimed to find out the target and learning needs of Grade X SMA SWASTA MARISI MEDAN. Moreover, it had a goal to develop English materials for learning writing skills. This is a research and development (R&D) study. The subjects of this research were 25 students of Grade X SMA SWASTA MARISI MEDAN. The need analysis data were collected by using questionnaires and an interview. Then, the results of questionnaires were calculated through percentage. Thus, the highest percentage was considered as the needs of students. Meanwhile, the results of expert judgment were analyzed in the form of descriptive statistics. Three units of materials were developed in this research. Each unit consists of introduction, main lesson and reinforcement. These materials used Project-Based  Learning as the approach in learning writing skill. The units covered some tasks as identify the generic structure, write a short paragraph and complete the sentences. Mostly, the themes used represented students’ knowledge about the popular places and person around them. According to the results of the expert judgment, the materials were very relevant to be used for Grade X SMA SWASTA MARISI MEDAN.    Keywords: learning writing, writing, descriptive text

Students’ worksheet, as one of learning tools that is used to involve the students to work actively during teaching and learning process, should be developed based on the students’ need. Students’ worksheet with scientific approach in listening skill has not applied. A good student’s worksheet must be satisfied criteria of valid, practical and effective. This research is a developmental research using Research and Development (RnD). It has been conducted on 35 students of SMK Negeri 10 Medan grade X for Multimedia Program. In this study, data obtained from Curriculum syllabus analysis, students’ need analysis and results of validation. Students’ need analysis was done to analyze the students’ perception about the previous learning materials and to know what kind of learning material they need. All of student answer the questionnaire in students’ worksheet in listening skill. From their answers are summarized into questions and answers for students’ worksheet, especially in the listening activity.  Keywords: Students’ worksheet, scientific approach, listening skill.

This study deals with the developing writing descriptive text for students of vocational school. The objective of the study is to develop the English writing materials to cope with the students’ needs for grade X students of Tourism Program in SMKN 1 Sidikalang for better materials which are appropriate with the students’ need of tourism program. The research was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D) method. The subject of the research was 2017/2018 students of tenth grade of class X UPW 1 at SMKN 1 Sidikalang. The number of the students was 35 students. The data of this study was collected based on the questionnaire analysis, the interview analysis, the experts judgment and selective writing text. Need analysis questionnaire was calculated by using percentage to get the information of students’ need before developing writing text materials particularly descriptive text. Expert judgment data was calculated by using criteria interval of expert judgment to know validity of writing materials which has been developed. The writing materials were in the form of writing text and writing skills which consisted of thirteen tasks. After the data analyzed, it was found that the expert’s judgment result was 4.5which had a very good criteria interval. The result of the research finds that the developed writing materials are relevant which cope with the students’ need and appropriate to be used in teaching and learning.

This article tries to describe about the developing Islamic content textbook for speaking English. The method used in this article are developmental research and design instructional model for the design. The article is not to generate a theory or verify one. It attempts to develop English learning material for speaking skill using textbook containing Islamic contents at first semester of tenth grade senior high school. Some steps passed in developing the English vocabulary material; need analysis, design, development, expert validation, try out, revision, and final product. It could be as a proof that this material could be applied to the tenth grade students. And the result shows that Islamic content textbook for English speaking material could be applied to the tenth grade students in Madrasah Aliyah Salafiyah Kajen, Pati Central Java Indonesia.

The objective of this study is to describe the teachers’ perceptions towards the implementation of Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Penddikan (KTSP) in SMA Negeri 1 Ngunut and also the implementation of Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP) in the Teaching of English in the classroom for the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Ngunut 2013/2014 academic year, including its material, teaching learning activity and the evaluation. Further more, it is also intended to know more about the strengths and the weaknesses of the implementation of Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP). In this research, the writer uses a qualitative research. To describe the students’ and teachers’ perception towards the implementation of Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP) in the class, the researcher uses descriptive method. The technique of collecting the data in this research is unobtrusive observation, in-depth interviewing, and document analysis. The writer uses guided-interview to support the data. In analyzing the data, the writer uses interactive analysis method by data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. After doing observation and interview, the writer can conclude that the teachers have good perception towards the implementation of KTSP in the school and play their role as teachers in the classroom well. The implementation of Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (KTSP) in the teaching of English at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Ngunut is well conducted. The teaching-learning activity in the classroom runs well because the teachers always try to encourage the students in teaching-learning process. <p>This research was conducted based on the researcher’s observation that every student and teachers had facilities for using e-learning system, but they couldn’t use it effectively. The aims of this research were 1) to explain the extent to which the product development needed to teach the writing of descriptive text; 2) to explain how the media potentially developed through Moodle e-learning media to teach descriptive text writing; 3) to explain the effectiveness of Moodle e-learning media to teach descriptive text writing. The subject of this research was students at tenth grade of SMK NU Ma’arif 01 Semarang. The scientific involved 47 students. 22 students were in the control class, and 25 students were in the experimental class. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test. The result of this research described as follow: 1) the extent needed of developing Moodle e-learning media is as follow: a) the students’ need analysis mentioned in the rate 96%, that students agreed toward Moodle e-learning media because it was very helpful. b) the total of validation result from expert validation 1 and 2 was 79.1% 2) The researcher developed Moodle e-learning media was done by using seven steps R and D research adapted by Borg and Gall. 3) the effectiveness of product supported by the results of students posttest that obtained 76.04. Based on those findings, this Moodle is valid to be implemented in an English learning process.</p>

AbstrakBanyak siswa yang kesulitan dalam memahami konsep matematika. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kemampuan pemahaman konsep siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal pada pokok bahasan Lingkaran. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini  adalah metode deskriptif dengan penelitian kasus. Materi tentang Lingkaran merupakan materi yang terdapat di SMP kelas VIII pada semester genap dan materi ini merupakan salah satu materi yang berhubungan dengan kehidupan sehari hari. Kelas VIII F SMPN 3 Karawang Barat dipilih sebagai subjek penelitian. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan pemberian tes tertulis kemampuan pemahaman konsep. Soal berbentuk uraian yang sebelum digunakan sudah di uji validasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan rata-rata nilai kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa adalah 10,06 termasuk dalam kriteria sedang.  Hasil analisis konsep per indikator, diketahui siswa sangat kurang pada indikator menerapkan hubungan antar konsep dan prosedur, kemudian dalam menerapkan konsep secara algoritma. Masih terdapat banyak siswa yang memiliki pemahaman konsep yang kurang.  Understanding of Mathematical Concepts Class VIII Students in Circle MaterialsAbstractMany students have difficulty understanding mathematical concepts. The purpose of this study is to determine the ability to understand students' concepts in solving questions on the subject of the Circle. The method used in this research is descriptive method with case research. The material about Circles is the material found in class VIII SMP in the even semester and this material is one of the materials related to daily life. Class VIII F of SMP 3 Karawang Barat was chosen as the research subject. Data collection is done by giving written tests the ability to understand concepts. Questions in the form of descriptions that have been validated before being used. The results of this study show the average value of the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts is 10.06 which is included in the criteria of being. The results of concept analysis per indicator, it is known that students are very lacking in indicators applying relationships between concepts and procedures, then in applying the concept algorithmically. There are still many students who lack an understanding of concepts.

<p>This research aims to improve students' analysis and synthesis abilities on electronic component learning material using the Research and Development (R&amp;D) method. Data were obtained from tenth-grade students of the Industrial Electronic Engineering Department in Bandung Regency and analyzed using the pre-test and Post-test with normalized gain. The results showed that during the stages of limited and product operational testing, the developed product tends to improve students' analysis and synthesis abilities in basic electronic learning material with electronic component sub-materials. Therefore, Android-Based Interactive Mobile Learning has succeeded in creating new and effective ways for students to learn.</p>

This article aims to look for learning problems faced by students of class VI MIS Handapherang-Ciamis, the teacher's efforts and the steps taken to overcome these problems. By using qualitative-descriptive method, research concludes; First, students experience difficulty in reading and writing. The problem factor comes from the parents and from the students themselves. Second, the efforts made by the class teacher at school to grade VI students who experience learning problems that is maximizing their sense of hearing by listening to the teacher when explaining the learning material, guided when the child does not understand the learning material and finally teacher guided when the child does not pay attention to the teacher explaining in learning process. Third, the teacher's stages in overcoming student learning problems starts from determining the problem to solving the problems that occur in students of class VI MIS Handapherang.
