The article considers the theme of madness as a cultural phenomenon in its romantic (Edgar Poe) and postmodern (Claude Chabrol) film interpretation. The study is based on the cultural and philosophical concept of madness grounded by Michel Foucault. The historical existence of madness phenomenon has two types of its perception distinguished, ‘cosmic’, which is the tragic madness of the world, and ‘critical’, which is peculiar to human consciousness and behavior, generating the ironic understanding. According to the philosopher, the cosmic and critical cultural experience of madness is embodied in visually plastic (pictorial) and verbal (literary) forms respectively. The verbal and literary specifics of creating an aesthetic image of madness within the romantic canon in Edgar Allan Poe’s story is compared with the peculiarities of the visual-sound plastic form of the images in Claude Chabrol’s film, created in the style of surrealism. In Poe’s story madness appears as a local phenomenon, a state of human consciousness determining the way of thinking and the specifics of behavior. The main way how the writer creates the characters includes their behavioral characteristics and speech. In Chabrol’s film interpretation the theme of madness unfolds gradually, being embodied in visual images, the pace of the film, the changing intraframe composition, the specific movement in the frame, the speed and rhythm of cutting, the color and sound of the film. Within the postmodernism aesthetics the director, inserting surrealistic Buñuel’s intertext, using the techniques of playing with the audience and varying interpretations of the end, focuses on the cosmic experience of madness, transforming Poe’s romantic-ironic interpretation into a understanding the “tragic madness of the world”.

“Contemporary art” is universal, but in international commonality, Chinese contemporary art has its specific problems that it faces: this includes scientific falsification and critique of artistic conspiracy and deception, highlighting the contemporary nature of contemporary art’s cognitive function, and connecting relationship with theory and practice,history and logic between contemporary art and artistic phenomenology, such as “world 2,” “practice-spirit” and behavior, installation, etc., thus welcoming the world identity of “cognitive experience”and “spiritual practice.”From the above three parts, the article identifies, “contemporary art” is a view of problem consciousness, concept, and human beings’ independent personality and dignity. On the historical approach and value orientation, she is not only a historical uplift to the function of art cognition but also a historic approach and representation of the era of “cultural experience” and“civilized practice.”

The paper analyzes the diaries by the famous Ukrainian writer, artist and political leader Volodymyr Vynnychenko (1880–1951) that highlight events of the World War I. The idea to start the diary just at that time was interpreted by the author himself as an event of his artistic life, ‘a philosophy of action’. It determined the presence of such notions as ‘attention’, ‘a stop above the life’, ‘moments of life’, ‘a beam of light’ used as philosophic prolegomena in the notes about war and traumatic experience of its first days, which the writer faced in Katerynoslav (now Dnipro). The depth of traumatism is evident against the background of the idyllic records from the Dniper steamship, combined with romantic and patriarchal Gogol-like allusions. The writer noted the transition to the Katerynoslav events carefully and clearly. As a politician he was interested in the conditions of workers, labor unrest, Black-Hundred outrage and the city’s perception of the beginning of the war as a trauma. The author of the diary didn’t separate himself from this tragic flow of events. He experienced these events directly and deeply, making correspondent records. It was the image of the station full of people leaving for the battlefi eld that demonstrated the trauma penetrating into the depth of the human consciousness, deforming the general state and behavior. The experience of the diarist led him to conclusion that not only Sarajevo, but also Katerynoslav was the point of the war. The epicenter of the events is in the notes on the station scenes that clearly divided the world into the lost peace and war, causing dramatic changes in human consciousness and behavior. This awareness was facilitated by the successful use of techniques belonging to naturalism, realism, impressionism, and expressionism.

The concept of transcendence has its primary home in philosophical theology. Drawing on symbols of height that are widespread in prereflective religious life, it suggests that God or the gods are above and beyond the worlds of nature and history and thus above and beyond ourselves as individuals and communities. In philosophical reflection the spatial metaphors are translated into the concept of difference or alterity. Thus, as Rudolf Otto puts it, the holy is that which is ‘wholly other’. We can distinguish three modes of divine transcendence. Cosmological transcendence, by which theism is distinguished from pantheism, signifies that, while there cannot be the world without God, there can be God without the world. The world does not emanate from God out of necessity; creation is a free act of purposive choice. Epistemic transcendence signifies that God is mysterious and incomprehensible, in two ways. First, God’s being exceeds our ability to bring it without remainder into our conceptual and linguistic frames of reference. Second, God’s knowledge of the worlds of nature and history and thus of ourselves as individuals and communities is qualitatively superior to our own knowledge and self-knowledge. Ethical-religious transcendence signifies that God’s transcendence is that of a person who sees us and speaks to us in a voice not our own. The prereflective background here is the biblical experience of covenant in which the speech acts by which God defines our identity and agenda are promises and commands. The philosophical concept correlative to this experience is that of inverted intentionality. Human consciousness is not just its own directed attention to whatever ‘objects’ it can perceive, think, remember, imagine, desire and so forth. In addition, we are aware of being addressed by a voice not our own and called to a vocation we did not initiate. We can welcome this calling as a divine gift or defend against it as a threat to freedom and autonomy.

In the short story Pascale’s Sphere Borges wrote, ‘universal history is the history of a few metaphors’. The history of world politics certainly seems marked by a few recurring concepts and metaphors: the universal and the particular, the inside and the outside, the balance of power, and the ideal of symmetry and actuality of chaos. Across eras, these concepts have shaped the image of world politics held by leaders, citizens and scholars. Such concepts are abstract but become visualised through diplomacy, war and cartography and through the lived experience of world affairs. For critical scholars of International Relations, these concepts and the images they translate into are responsible for conflict, for they become concrete in the states, borders and security dilemmas that propel us from conflict to conflict. It follows that there is a relationship between ‘the image of world politics’ and actual visual images of world politics; between abstract, conceptual understandings of the ontology and mechanics of International Relations and the horrific news and events we witness every day.

A technological approach allowed the authors of the article to understand public diplomacy in a new way. As a result of the research, the essence and potential of public diplomacy technologies were identified, their specific features were identified and characterized. The authors demonstrated that public diplomacy technologies are innovative means of competition for influence in the international arena. Technologies of public diplomacy not only influence the thinking and behavior of political leaders and activists of other countries, but also act as a driver of a full-fledged anthropological project for the formation of a modernized transnational human consciousness. That is the main source of support and legitimacy of the cultural, economic and geostrategic interests of the country that is the subject of public diplomacy. Successful implementation of public diplomacy technologies is not so much about winning hearts and minds, as well as establishing institutional channels for fruitful lobbying of their own interests anywhere in the world.

The article is dedicated to the historic and theoretic literary analysis of the works of Ukrainian and foreign researchers, that studied the problem of transformation potential of the small prose genres in the synchronic and diachronic aspects. A review is made of the main approaches towards studying the problem of the kinship of a short story with epic and dramatic kin of literature. It has been found out: the majority of the researchers think that the typology of genres according to their kin has been sustained only in classicism with its demand for purity and canonicity of the literary forms, and in such literary streams like romanticism, realism, modernism, the genres emerge on the crossing of lyrics, epos and drama. Practically all of the researchers of the short story point out the concentration and laconicity of the genre of short story. This feature is usually connected to the manifestation of the dramatization in the epic genre as a whole. The substance of life in the end of XIX - at the beginning of the XX centuries is characterized by the acceleration of the civilized progress as well as by the intensifying of the time and space bonds, both in Ukraine and the World. These processes are determined by the change in the social and economic formations, accomplishments of the scientific and technical progress, development and achievements in the natural and technical branches of scientific knowledge, postulates of the philosophy of positivism, etc. Therefore, a concentration has been reflected in the peculiarities of the then spiritual, cultural and literary life. Under such circumstances the small prose, and short stories in particular, turned out to be the most operative and productive "content form". The success of Ukrainian small prose of the mentioned period to a great extend has been triggered both by the dialectic unity of the traditions and novelty of the national literary process, and the subjective conditions connected with the talent of the representatives of letters as well as the flexibility, experimental nature and an inclination to transformation by the leading genres of small prose. So in the article, a conclusion is made about the resonance between the novelty attempt of an individual artistic method of Vasyl Stefanyk and the transformation potential of short story as a genre.

The demonolexis in Yu. Andrukhovych’s long short story “Recreatsii” (“Recreations”) has been analyzed in the article. In the course of the research there have been outlined the following lexical-semantic groups of demonomens: toponymic and onomastic names, modified lexemes, names of the rituals, genuine Ukrainian demonomens, obscene words and expressions, demonomens of Biblical origin, names from the world mythology and general demonolexis. The special lexical-semantic group has been formed by non personificated demonomens, which serve to convey the peculiarities of the contemporary Ukrainian writers’ mentality, their habits through speech. Such nomens help to reveal the protagonist’s soul, show the positive and negative sides of his personal ego, demonstrate the duality of the human perception of the world, indicate the causes of phobias, emotions, sensations. Key words: demonolexis, demonomen, lexical-semantic group, non personificated demonomen.

The Dialogical concept of consciousness in L.S. Vygotsky and G.H. Mead and its relevance for contemporary discussions on consciousness In my paper I show the relevance of cultural-activity theory for solving the puzzles of the concept of consciousness which encounter contemporary philosophy. I reconstruct the main categories of cultural-activity theory as developed by M.M. Bakhtin, L.S. Vygotsky, G.H. Mead, and J. Dewey. For the concept of consciousness the most important thing is that the phenomenon of human consciousness is consider to be an effect of intersection of language, social relations, and activity. Therefore consciousness cannot be reduced to merely sensual experience but it has to be treated as a complex process in which experience is converted into language expressions which in turn are used for establishing interpersonal relationships. Consciousness thus can be accounted for by its reference to objectivity of social relationships rather than to the world of physical or biological phenomena.

The article examines how selected works in Uganda’s first anthology of prison-authored work, As I Stood Dead before the World: Creative Writing from Luzira Prison (2018), handle one of the issues of paramount importance to inmates and their families: the possibility that convictions in courts of law are not foolproof since judicial officers are human beings and therefore susceptible to error. Drawing from four examples: two poems (Jackson O’s “Letter to Aber” and Sebuuma Gadafi’s “Twenty-Years”), one short story (Rachael Pearl Orishaba’s “A Secret”), and one short play (Jennifer Janette’s “What If It Wasn’t Kato?”), I show how different inmates imagine situations where judicial officers (prosecutors and magistrates/judges) make errors of judgement that see innocent people convicted of crimes they did not commit. The article closely reads the four selected pieces with the objective of investigating how creative writers can help judicial officers realise how important it is to turn every proverbial stone before a conviction is made.

COVID-19 pandemic has spread across the world, which considered a relative of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), with possibility of transmission from animals to human and effect each of health and economic. Several preventative strategies and non-pharmaceutical interventions have been used to slow down the spread of COVID-19. The questionnaire contained 36 questions regarding the impact of COVID-19 quarantine on children`s behaviors and language have been distributed online (Google form). Data collected after asking parents about their children behavior during quarantine, among the survey completers (n=469), 42.3% were female children, and 57.7 were male children. Results showed that quarantine has an impact on children`s behaviors and language, where stress and isolationism has a higher effect, while social relations had no impact. The majority of the respondents (75.0%) had confidence that community pharmacies can play an important role in helping families in protection their children`s behaviors and language as they made the highest contact with pharmacists during quarantine. One of the main recommendations that could be applied to help parents protection and improvement their children`s behaviors and language in quarantine condition base on simple random sample opinion is increasing the role of community pharmacies inpatient counseling and especially towards children after giving courses to pharmacists in child psychology and behavior. This could be helpful to family to protect their children, from any changing in them behaviors and language in such conditions in the future if the world reface such the same problem.
