AbstractOne of the prominent skills to be acquired by English language learners is Language learning strategies (LLSs) which is significant to enhance communicative competence. Individual’s differences in using the strategies depict their understanding on LLSs. An interesting fact on the result of Manajemen Dakwah Department Students (MDDSs) at State Islamic University (UIN) of Mataram in the odd semester of academic year 2018-2019 was 64 students got higher average English scores in their final test (88) compared to their middle test (65) that might reflect different use of LLS. The English subject was focusing on reading comprehension. Furthermore, descriptive qualitative case study was applied to record the dominant LLSs used by ten successful students or achievers in English class who has the criteria of achieving English score above 90. Three instruments were used to gather data, they are: documentation, questionnaire, and interview. The result shows that students used all LLSs and creating their own learning opportunities. Only HN that did not use social strategy though he used all other strategies. It means that successful MDDSs believe that exactly all LLSs are significant for elevating their language learning. Another result shows that the dominant LLSs which were used are compensation as they are good guesser for the unfamiliar words, memory strategy since they always try to memorize to retain the vocabulary in mind, and metacognitive strategy where they always create best setting for them to learn. The COVID-19 is an ongoing global pandemic, caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 resulted in the abrupt shutting of all the educational institutions (schools, colleges, and universities) in India. This resulted in dramatic changes in the education system with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. Online learning is a competent and contactless method of teaching to remotely located students. Geography is a branch of science which deals with the study of the earth’s surface and the relationships between people and their environment. Geographers explore both the physical properties of the earth’s surface and the human societies spread across it. The subject matter of Geography containing different theory papers and practical papers cannot just be effectively taught in a classroom or laboratory but best enlightened on the field. For the effective learning process in the subject of Geography, students require on-ground observations, laboratory analysis, projects and dissertations, field surveying, computer mapping and analysis, field trips and excursions, etc. It helps the budding Geographers to acquire not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills. But the COVID-19 pandemic situation confronted the education system, forcing the educators in the field of Geography to shift to an online mode of teaching, leaving them with no option. During this crisis, the educators have given their best in teaching the subject matter of Geography to the students by using various open-source teaching aids by overcoming the issues like lack of training and professional technical support. This altered the traditional teaching and learning process in the field of Geography, which essentially affects the students of Geography. Thus, a case study was undertaken to assess the online teaching in the subject of Geography at the undergraduate level during the academic year 2020-21 from the student’s perspective.

Students need to take control of their learning process by knowing when, where and how to use appropriate learning strategies for effective learning to take place. One of the language learning strategies learners need to take into consideration is vocabulary learning strategy (VLS) as vocabulary is one of the crucial elements that learners need to master in language learning. Vocabulary learning strategies if used effectively will help learners to master a wide range of vocabulary. This study aims to identify the types of VLS which are frequently used among ESL undergraduates according to learners’ gender. Forty ESL undergraduates from various disciplines at a local university were involved in this study and data were collected to achieve the main objective of the study. The survey design was employed, and data were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive analysis to measure the frequency and percentage to identify the most frequent use of VLS and whether it differs from the undergraduates’ gender. The findings of this study found that male undergraduates used VLS more than female undergraduates and memory and social strategy were the most frequently used by female undergraduates while male undergraduates used more of cognitive and metacognitive strategy. Therefore, the findings of the study are indeed beneficial for learners to know which VLS suits them and how they can acquire a vast amount of vocabulary during their second language learning process by applying those vocabulary strategies.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the opinions of pre-service teachers regarding the teaching of digital storytelling, which is one of the methods where students actively participate in the learning process, produce content, and learn while having fun, unlike the conventional methods. The research was undertaken as a case study. The study was carried out in Gazi University in the 2015-2016 academic year. The results of the research suggest that the pre-service teachers were mostly pleased with the digital storytelling task. Pre-service teachers who studied in groups were more satisfied and the pre-service teachers believed that digital storytelling positively affected many higher-order thinking skills, creativity in particular. Although higher-order thinking skills are not expected to improve with such short tasks, it can be suggested that the topic may have a positive effect.

The purpose of this text is to identify the main strategies of the teaching-learning process, as well as the perceptions of professors during the period of social isolation in the context of the pandemic generated by Covid-19. The study sample consists of 52 professors from the Administration, Accounting, and Economic Sciences courses, working in four higher education institutions in the southern region of Brazil. The survey carried out through a questionnaire comprising 32 questions, collected the respondents' identification, the perceptions of the teaching process, and the teaching-learning strategies used from the insertion of classes remotely as an alternative in the social isolation period. As data treatment, descriptive statistics, and the Mann-Whitney statistical test were used, the analysis is quantitative. The results show that, for 96% of those surveyed, the disciplines took place remotely; 92% indicate pedagogical adaptations, and 76% responded that the institution offered training. The main teaching strategies used in the period of social isolation are: expository classes with the presentation of content on slides (98%); exercises with resolution (90%); case study (69%); and content-oriented research/reading (52%). The statistical analysis shows that professors who used problematization/teaching cases, debates, and games believe they have achieved the teaching-learning objectives. In the perception of 54% of professors, classes held remotely do not represent losses in students' teaching-learning process and have achieved their objectives. In general, the results demonstrate adaptation of face-to-face classes to the remote format. The findings suggest the importance of inserting technologies as teaching strategies, regardless of whether the model is face-to-face or not.

This research aims to study the development of students’ analytical thinking skill during animal tissue learning. The other aim is to identify the obstacles experienced by the teacher in developing the students’ analytical thinking skill during learning process. The study used case study design. The study was held on odd semester of academic year 2017/2018. The samples were XI IPA5, XI IPA6, dan XI IPA7. The datas in this research are the data of learning implementation, students’ analytical thinking skill, and the teacher’s obstacles during the learning. The data of learning implementation was obtained from observation sheets. The data of students’ analytical thinking skill was obtained from observation and test. The data of challenge which was experienced by teacher and students’ response were obtained from teacher and students’ questionnaire. The data of learning implementation is analyzed by measuring the percentage of learning process implementation. Based on that percentage, the implementation of learning held by teacher can be categorized into very well, well, and dissatisfactory. The data of analytical thinking skill was analyzed by calculate the score of analytical thinking skill test. Based on that score, students were grouped into 3 categories; high, medium, and low. The data of teacher and student responses were analyzed by calculating the score percentage of teacher and students questionaires. The result of study showed that students’ analytical thinking skill developed well through lecture method (67%), and it developed very well through discussion method (89%). Most of the students (68%) had medium analytical thinking. The teacher challenged the development of indicator of analytical thinking skill in evaluating opinion, and collecting and assessing information. According to the students, their analytical thinking skill developed well during the learning.
