Text-based learning in primary school is an important factor in developing the functional literacy of primary school students. Functional literacy is expressed in mastering the main activities in the learning process – reading and writing, through which the learner feels ready to solve various learning and life tasks. The change of the educational environment in classroom through the application of various electronic educational resources in the lessons of Bulgarian language and literature leads to the formation of new skills in young students to work with a text. In the process of working with the text, the learners acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes related to the text and its structural and semantic components. They master different approaches to learning aimed at the successful realization of the individual in the group and in society. This paper offers a brief theoretical overview of the concepts of text and functional literacy, their interrelationship and interdependence. The article discusses issues related to digitization of the learning process in Bulgarian language and literature at an early stage. Presented are opportunities for working with text in e-learning environment helping to develop reading and writing literacy of students by analyzing the results and comparing with the requirements of state educational standards in Bulgarian language and literature.

The article describes the results of the development and testing of an algorithm for designing interactive activities for primary school. The algorithm is developed taking into account the characteristics of modern primary school students, examining different interpretations of the concept «interactive» in different spheres of human life and fields of study (such as linguistics, sociology, psychology, pedagogy) and considering the problem of using the term «interactive» in the modern education system. The algorithm for designing interactive activities includes six sequential steps: to select the content; to choose a type of group for the activity; to create the activity in which each student will personally participate; to think over different options to provide choice for students; to select the technical means; to set a time limit. Each action of the algorithm is depicted from the perspective of a primary school teacher. The survey of the teachers found significant changes in teachers’ perceptions of the term «interactive», in their understanding of distinctive features of the interactive activities and difficulties to create suitable interactive activities. It is noted the importance of continuing research in the aspect of the influence of interactive activities on the educational achievements of primary school students (including the development of functional literacy). The article was prepared with the financial support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation within the framework of the research project «The development of functional literacy among primary school students in the implementation of educational programs».

Modern pedagogical practice emphasizes the use of technology as an opportunity to personalize the learning process and the need to take into account students' new needs. The purpose of this chapter is to offer a model of presenting online learning materials in mathematics that involves students in a continuous learning process. This model consists of textual materials, video materials, and tests in Moodle virtual learning environment (VLE). Textual materials include short theoretical materials with examples, self-control exercises, and worksheets with step-by-step solutions. The model includes five different types of videos: mini-lectures, problem solving walkthroughs, instructional videos, interactive videos, and individual videos. The testing system includes training, control, and bonus tests. Creating all parts of the model requires the use of specific didactical techniques. The students' feedback to this model has been highly positive.

Flipped teaching is a trend within higher education. Through flipped teaching the learning environment can be altered by moving the lecture out of the classroom through online recordings, while in-classroom sessions focus on active learning and engaging students in their own learning process. In this paper, we used focus groups comprised of male students in a qualitative research course with the aim of understanding the ways in which we might improve active student engagement and motivation within the flipped classroom. The findings indicated that, within the flipped classroom, students mix surface and deep-learning approaches. The online recordings, which students interact with through a surface approach, can function as a stepping stone toward a deep-learning approach to in-class activities, but only if students come to class prepared. The findings therefore suggest that students must be made aware of the importance of preparation prior to flipped classroom in-class activities to ensure the active learning process is successful. By not listening to the recordings (e.g., due to technological failure, as was the case in this study), students can result in only employing a surface approach.
