The purpose of the study is to identify how the course that covers the components of the ten-stepwise approach to discourse analysis of political texts helps international students study the political meanings in Ukraine. The study used the structured observation method to collect rather quantitative than qualitative data and observers’ reports on the sampled students’ performance in the in-class and out-of-class assignments. It also used discourse analysis awareness test, observation report checklist, and assessment checklist to yield the quantitative data. The course that is based on the ten-stepwise approach to discourse analysis of political texts proved to raise the students’ overall awareness of analysis of textual-discursive categories and fosters their skills of both discourse analysis and technical skills to use the NVivo 12 software tool. The results of the Discourse Analysis Awareness Test showed that the sampled students’ awareness of discourse analysis was generally good. The mean values varied between 0.643 and0.857, which corresponded to 65-85 grades ECTS. The analysis of the observation reports showed that the five most frequent words used in the corpus of the observation reports of seven experts were as follows: students, contributed, equally, succeeded, managed. All of them evoke a positive idea and feeling and reveal success in meeting goals. The quotes yielded from the reports implied that the course sessions were engaging, challenging, and fruitful in terms of learning how to analyze textual-discursive categories found in political texts. The descriptive statistics drawn from the observation checklist and presented by course topic showed that the observers’ mean values improved throughout the course sessions that meant that the students progressed in the discourse analysis.

A tedious situasion of learning Bahasa Indonesia in this pandemic era makes Facebook become a choice to have a varied and interesting learning process. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a research on the students` responses toward Facebook as a medium of learning. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The instrument used in this research was students` response questionnaires to Facebook as a learning medium which was distributed to 145 high school students in West Sumatera by using the google form. The link was distributed through the Whatsapp Group. The results of this study shows that students : [1] are familiar with, have downloaded and used Facebook; [2] saw Facebook as a positive, profitable and entertaining application; [3] (minority) saw Facebook as a negative, harmful, and unsatisfactory application; [4] like Facebook because they can get information; [5] mostly agree that the Facebook application is used as a medium for learning Bahasa Indonesia (listening, speaking, reading, and writing); [6] (minority) do not like to use Facebook due to many naughty and fraudulent accounts appear; [7] (mostly) have received information on procedural texts, short stories or narrative texts, explanatory texts, observation report texts, exposition texts, anecdotal texts, poetry texts and negotiation texts. Then, [8] a small proportion of students have never seen debates, saga, novels, dramas, lectures. Hence, it can be concluded that Facebook can be used as a learning medium to make the students motivated and enjoyed the learning process.

Although the Teaching Practicum (TP) course makes a significant contribution in preparing teachers, it remains lacking in many essential aspects. To fill in the gaps regarding literature, this research paper was designed to explore the views of three Master of Art (MA) TESOL student-teachers on the advantages they gained and challenges they faced during their TP course at a Saudi university. Participants were interviewed, observed, and the two reflective assignments of the course were analyzed to find answers to the research questions. The research questions focused on the instructional benefits of the TP course and the interventions needed to enhance the effectiveness of the course. The findings revealed that the practical teaching component was the most helpful part of the course and the peer-observation report was the most appropriate evaluation method. Moreover, the study found that the limitedness of the teaching timeframe poses a significant challenge, and hence increasing the teaching practice time was the most significant change the participants suggested. Finally, the study recommends interventions that will help improve the quality of the TP course.

This article investigates the viability of community-based tourism (CBT) in support of socio-economic development and poverty alleviation through a case study in Nqileni Village, Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. This was done through data solicited using a qualitative research approach amongst residents of Nqileni village in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. The data collected was then analysed using NVivo system, version 11, which provided substance to the research through the creation of a comprehensive observation report. The results indicated a positive view of members of the community relating to the contribution of CBT to community development (socio-economics) and poverty alleviation.

The objectives to be achieved in this study are: (1) To describe the learning steps of the communicative approach in writing descriptive text of the report on the observations of class XI students of SMA Negeri 2 Tondano; (2) To describe the writing skills of the description text of the observation report of the XI grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Tondano by using a communicative approach. The method used is action research according to its type. The subjects of this study were students of grade XI in SMA Negeri 2 Tondano. The source of the data is 20 students and teachers. To collect data the techniques used are tests and observations. Acting in two rounds, the results showed that, in the implementation of the first round of Class XI Language Skills of SMA Negeri 2 Tondano in Writing Text Description of Observation Reports using the communicative approach was still in the range of percentage values of 66.20%, categorized as less able. Based on the unsatisfactory results, the second round was carried out, and the results were in the successful category because they were in the able range of 84.40%. These results indicate that the use of a communicative approach in learning to write descriptive text of the observation report has an impact or can improve the skills of 20 high school students of SMA Negeri 2 Tondano Keywords: Writing skills; report text; observation results.

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan kemampuan siswa dalam menyusun gagasan utama, gagasan penjelas, serta kepaduan antara gagasan utama dengan gagasan penjelas pada teks laporan hasil observasi dengan media kartu observasi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif yang dilakukan di kelas X MIPA 2 SMAN 7 Malang. Data penelitian ini adalah gagasan utama dan gagasan penjelas yang dituliskan siswa pada kartu observasi. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan terhadap karakteristik bahasa dan hubungan antara gagasan utama dan gagasan penjelas yang disusun siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa para siswa mampu menyusun gagasan utama dan gagasan penjelas yang saling berhubungan. Gagasan utama telah mencakup informasi inti yang ingin disampaikan, sedangkan gagasan penjelas berisi informasi terperinci yang menjelaskan gagasan utama. Hal itu terbukti dengan persentase siswa yang melebihi KKM, yaitu 87.10% siswa pada kemampuan mengembangkan gagasan utama, 93.55% siswa pada kemampuan mengembangkan gagasan penjelas, dan 87.10% siswa pada kemampuan membentuk kepaduan antara gagasan utama dengan gagasan penjelas. Di sisi lain, terdapat empat siswa (12,90 %) yang skornya sama dengan KKM pada kemampuan mengembangkan gagasan utama. Terdapat dua siswa (6,45 %) yang skornya sama dengan KKM pada kemampuan mengembangkan gagasan penjelas. Pada kemampuan membentuk kepaduan antara gagasan utama dan gagasan penjelas, terdapat 12,90 % siswa yang sama dengan KKM.Kata Kunci: gagasan utama, gagasan penjelas, laporan hasil observasiABSTRACTThis study aims to describe the ability of students to compile main ideas, explanatory ideas, and coherence between the main ideas and explanatory ideas in the text of the observation report with the observation card media. This research is a descriptive study conducted in class X MIPA 2 SMAN 7 Malang. The data of this study are the main ideas and explanatory ideas written by students on the observation card. Data is collected by documentation techniques. Data analysis was carried out on the characteristics of the language and the relationship between the main ideas and explanatory ideas that students composed. The results of the study show that students are able to compile key ideas and explanatory ideas that are interconnected. The main idea includes the core information that you want to convey, while the explanatory idea contains detailed information that explains the main ideas. This is evidenced by the presence of 87.10% of students who score the same as minimum criteria on the ability to develop main ideas, 93.55% of students in the ability to develop explanatory ideas, and 87.10% of students in the ability to form coherence between the main ideas and explanatory ideas. On the other hand, there are four students (12.90%) whose score the same as minimum criteria on the ability to develop the main ideas. There are two students (6.45%) whose score the same as mimimum criteria on the ability to develop explanatory ideas. In the ability to form coherence between main ideas and explanatory ideas, there are 12.90% of students who are the same as mimimum criteria.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to describe the text structure of the report of the observation and describe the text of the observation report of class VII from SMP Negeri 18 Padang. This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive method. The data source in this study is the text of the observation of students of class VII SMP Negeri 18 Padang, written by students in grades VII. 2 numbering thirty texts. The instruments in this study are researchers themselves. Data is analyzed by describing, analyzing, and discussing data based on theory. The results of this study are first, in the text of the observation of students of class VII SMP Negeri 18 Padang is found three text structures of observation results report, namely general definition, section description, and conclusion. Secondly, in the text of the observation of class VII students SMP Negeri 18 Padang, generally students have used the fourth feature of the text of observation report. It can be concluded that the structure and characteristics of the text in the observation report of grade VII students SMP Negeri 18 Padang is good. It can be seen from the thirty texts of the observation report analyzed, twenty-six texts of the observation report already has a complete structure and of the thirty text of the observation report analyzed, the twenty-four texts have used the full text feature of the observation report. Kata kunci: Struktur, Ciri Kebahasaan, Teks Laporan Hasil Observas
