Taxes are the largest state revenue, but tax companies are a burden that can reduce profits received by shareholders. Then in 2019 tax revenue from the mining sector in 2019 experienced a significant decline. Based on this, this study aims to see how the level of profitability of companies, institutional ownership and audit committees affect mining companies in avoiding taxes. By using 19 company samples for the 2016-2018 period, researchers found that profitability and audit committees could increase corporate tax avoidance. whereas institutional ownership has no influence on tax avoidance.

Tax avoidance measured by Earning Tax Rate (ETR) is considered to be able to describe the real activities of tax avoidance carried out by the company. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of Corporation Risk and Good Corporate Governance on Tax Avoidance with Institutional Ownership as a Moderating Variable. This study uses a sample of non-banking and financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period of 2014-2016. The analysis in this study uses the common effect method. The results of this study indicate that corporate risk does not significantly influence tax avoidance, but with institutional ownership as a moderating variable, corporate risk has a significant effect on corporate tax avoidance. Corporate governance as measured by institutional ownership, board of commissioners and audit quality has a significant effect on tax company avoidance.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the direct and indirect relationship between institutional ownership and corporate tax avoidance using corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a mediating variable. Design/methodology/approach This study uses panel data set of 200 French firms listed during the 2007–2018 period. The direct and indirect effects between managerial ownership and tax avoidance were tested by using structural equation model analysis. Findings The results indicate that institutional ownership negatively affects tax avoidance. The greater the proportion of the institutional ownership, the lower the likelihood of tax avoidance usage. From the result of the Sobel test, this study indicated that CSR partially mediates the effect of institutional ownership on corporate tax avoidance. Practical implications The findings have some policy and practical implications that may help regulators in improving the quality of transactions and in achieving more efficient market supervision. They recommend to the government to add regulations and restrictions to the structure of corporate ownership to control corporate tax avoidance in French companies. Originality/value This study extends the existing literature by examining both the direct and indirect effect of institutional ownership on corporate tax avoidance in French companies by including CSR as a mediating variable.

This study aims to obtain empirical evidence of the effect of leverage and capital intensity on tax avoidance with the proportion of independent commissioners as moderating variable. The research population is manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2013-2017. The method of determining the sample used was purposive sampling and obtained 200 observations. Data analysis techniques using multiple linear regression analysis and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The results of the analysis show that leverage has a positive effect on tax avoidance. This means that the more debt the company uses to finance assets, the higher level of tax avoidance. Capital intensity has a negative effect on tax avoidance. This means that the more capital invested by the company in the form of fixed assets, the lower level of tax avoidance. The proportion of independent commissioners does not moderate the effect of leverage and capital intensity on tax avoidance. Keywords: Leverage, capital intensity, independent commissioners, tax avoidance

ABSTRACT: We investigate whether the level of ownership by institutional shareholders with a long-term horizon is associated with firms' tax avoidance activities. In theory, tax avoidance increases firm value through tax savings; however, institutions with long-term investment horizons are likely to discourage tax avoidance activities if such activities encourage managerial opportunism and reduce transparency. Using a sample of firms with institutional ownership data from 1995–2008, we find less tax avoidance in firms held by long-term institutional shareholders. Probing further, we find these results are generally driven by poorly governed firms. Overall, our results highlight the role of certain types of institutional shareholders in affecting a firm's tax avoidance behavior.

ABSTRACT We provide new evidence on the agency theory of corporate tax avoidance (Slemrod 2004; Crocker and Slemrod 2005; Chen and Chu 2005) by showing that increases in institutional ownership are associated with increases in tax avoidance. Using the Russell index reconstitution setting to isolate exogenous shocks to institutional ownership, and a regression discontinuity design that facilitates sharper identification of treatment effects, we find a significant and discontinuous increase in tax avoidance following Russell 2000 inclusion. The tax avoidance involves the use of tax shelters, and immediate benefits include higher profit margins and likelihood of meeting or beating analyst expectations. Collectively, the results shed light on the effect of increased ownership concentration on tax avoidance.

The aim of this study is to test the influence of tax avoidance towards the cost of debt moderated by institutional ownership. In this research, tax avoidance measured by proxy of Book Tax Different (BTD) and Cash Effective Tax Rate (CETR). The population in this research is manufacturing firms that listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) with 2015-2017 time periods. The amount of sample before outlier is 198 datas collected with purposive sampling method, then the amount of sample after outlier is 187 datas for first model and 186 datas for second model. Cross section data is used in this research. Multiple linear regression, determination coefficients, and partial test (t-test) is used with some help of programming data using SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solution) 23th version to analize in this research. The result of this study indicate tax avoidance has not significant influence towards the cost of debt, and institutional ownership can’t moderate the relationship between tax avoidance and the cost of debt.
