DME has characteristics similar to LPG so that the storage and handling are not so different from LPG. DME could be used as a solvent that can extract typical types of rubber/polymer material. The aims and objectives of this study are to determine the effect of DME/LPG (100/0, 80/20, 50/50, 30/70, 20/80) on the stability of the DME/LPG mixture on the stove and also to observe the effect on several rubber materials/polymers on stove accessories. The study reveals that the usage of a DME/LPG mixture between 20/80 - 30/70 does not require a replacement of any substitute materials but only requires minor modifications to the stove. However, at a higher DME composition, the use of the fuel needs to replace the seal that is resistant to DME. It occurs due to the change of the gas composition when it is used.

This paper investigates the effect of dispersion of surface-modified WS2 nanoparticles on the tribological performance and physicochemical properties of motorbike lubricant. Surface-assisted WS2 nanoparticles were dispersed in motorbike engine oil and an optimum amount of surfactant for best stability of the lubricant suspension was found by investigating the changes in the physicochemical properties of lubricant. The stability analysis using light scattering techniques confirmed the stability of nanoparticles dispersed in lubricant medium and surface-modified WS2 nanoparticles remained stable for 180 days. The physicochemical properties were evaluated as per ASTM standards over a period of two months to check the state of lubricant and observable changes in the properties during this period. The tribological performance of the lubricants was assessed by conducting endurance tests on a 100 cc motor bike. The performance was evaluated by checking the wear of the engine components and fuel consumption. It was found that there were no abnormal changes in the physicochemical properties of lubricant up to a certain surfactant to nanoparticle ratio indicating its utility in automotive engines. However, if the amount of surfactant was increased beyond optimum quantity abnormal changes are seen in the viscosity index, leading to the deterioration of key lubricant properties. Lubricant dispersed with WS2 nanoparticles gave good performance characterized by the reduction in both engine wear and fuel consumption. Worn surfaces of the oil rings after the endurance test were assessed for deposits and it was found that a layer of WS2 deposited on the oil ring surface that reduced friction and wear.

The micro-emulsion fuels were prepared with complex surfactant, and the effects of temperature on the stability of these fuels were investigated. The engine performance and the emissions were studied when the engine was fueled with diesel and micro-emulsion diesel respectively. Results showed that when the engine was fueled with micro-emulsion diesel, the NOXand smoke emissions were decreased obviously and HC and CO emissions were increased slightly. Discounting of surfactant and water, the specific fuel consumption of micro-emulsion diesel was lower than those of diesel under any load at the speed of 2900r/min.

In order to investigate the effect of strong wind on dynamic characteristic of traffic flow, an improved car-following model based on the full velocity difference model is developed in this paper. Wind force is introduced as the influence factor of car-following behavior. Among three components of wind force, lift force and side force are taken into account. The linear stability analysis is carried out and the stability condition of the newly developed model is derived. Numerical analysis is made to explore the effect of strong wind on spatial-time evolution of a small perturbation. The results show that the strong wind can significantly affect the stability of traffic flow. Driving safety in strong wind is also studied by comparing the lateral force under different wind speeds with the side friction of vehicles. Finally, the fuel consumption of vehicle in strong wind condition is explored and the results show that the fuel consumption decreased with the increase of wind speed.

To improve the quality of pavement can be achieved by substituting filler materials. The materials used for mixing asphaltic concrete are Portland Cement (PC) Andalas type II and Krueng Neng Oyster Shell (ACT) to bind the aggregate with the mixture of asphalt becoming denser as the ACT contains silica and lime. The use of ACT as a filler is expected to improve the quality of the pavement mixture. The study aimed to determine the effect of Marshall Parameters on the use of PC-substituted ACT fillers with a composition of 0% ACT: 100% PC, 20% ACT: 80% PC, 50% ACT: 50% PC, 80% ACT: 20% PC , and 100% ACT: 0% PC against AC - WC mixture. The number of construction materials testing in this study was 66. The research method was Bina Marga 2010 Revision 4 of 2018. The results showed that all compositions met the requirements for the Bina Marga 2010 Revision 4 2018 specification, the best composition for ACT and PC filling substitutes were obtained a percentage of 20% ACT and 80% PC at 5.00% of the asphalt content, the stability value was 1323.01 kg with a VIM value of 3.66% VMA 15.91% VFA 76.99 and MQ 508.68 kg / mm.
