The aims of this research is to know the types of metaphors found in Bring Me The Horizon’s “Amo” album selected song’s lyrics and what is the intended meaning of the song’s lyrics. There are two research questions. They are: 1) what types of metaphors are found in Bring Me the Horizon’s selected song lyrics? 2) What is the intended meaning of the song’s lyrics? The reason behind this research was conduct is to get more knowledge about figurative language especially metaphor and how it works in the literary world. This research uses descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the lyrics. The result of this research shows six types of metaphors by Newmark. Those are dead, cliché, stock, recent, original metaphor and simile. Two out of their three songs of Bring Me the Horizon, that is Medicine and In the Dark use dead metaphor and simile the most. It is then concluded that the intended meanings of their three songs is to tell other people who ever felt belittled, have social issues or being looked down to keep going and not affected by those hurtful words. In other words, Bring Me the Horizon uses the function of figurative language especially metaphor to express their message and applied them into their works.  Keywords: Metaphor, meaning

AbstractThis research is entitled An Analysis of Figurative Language in Taylor Swift's song lyrics it aims to know the types of figurative language that are used in Taylor swift lyrics and describe the contextual meaning of the figurative language used in Taylor's lyrics. The research data is obtained from two songs from one albumof Taylor Swift. The album titled Red with three songs taken entitles Red and 22. This research uses descriptive qualitative method in observation and library research in collecting data of this research. Figurative language found consists of simile, metaphor, hyperbole, paradox, irony and personification. In this research, these findingsshow that hyperbole is the most dominant in Taylor Swift’s song and based on the contextual meaning of overall song lyrics of Taylor Swift tell about conflict, pain heart and deeply treachery.Keywords: song, lyric, figurative language, contextual meaning

This research is attempt to study about the common used of figurative languages in Beatles masterpieces. This research has three objectives: (1) to find out figurative languages in Beatles’ Masterpieces especially “A Day In The Life” and “A Hard Days Night” song, (2) to know what is the literal meaning in Beatles’ masterpieces especially “A Day In The Life” and “A Hard Days Night” song, (3) to know the moral values in Beatles’ masterpieces especially “A Day In The Life” and “A Hard Days Night” song . This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The technique of data analysis is categorizing, sorting, coding, interpreting, drawing a conclusion, and representing the findings. The result of this research shows that The Beatles is common used hyperbole and pleonasm in both song lyrics. Based on the analysis, the writer hopes that this research can provide knowledge about figurative language that the readers can take positive things especially in works of art.

This research is aimed to analyze the figurative languages used in Roar song by Katy Perry. Objectives of the study: (1) to find out the figurative languages used in Roar song by Katy Perry, (2) to find out the meaning of figurative language used in Roar song by Katy Perry, and (3) to find out the moral value messages of the song lyrics. Based on the objective of the study, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method in collecting the data. From the data analysis, the researcher found out  of figurative language appeared in Roar song by Katy Perry. They are Metaphor, Personification, Simile, Paradox, Irony, Alliteration, Onomatopoeia and Hyperbole. It can be implied that figurative language is always used in song lyrics. In Roar song lyrics, there can find moral value massages that can be learned in by the figurative language shown in this song. That is trusting ourself, never doubt to ourself and believe that we have power to refuse some of bad thins comes to our life such as bullying and toxic relationship.

Figurative language is one way of conveying words other than the normal way. This helps song writers compose and produce beautiful songs. Figurative language is part of semantics. Semantic is the study of meaning that is used to understand human expression through language. With semantic we can know the true or actual meaning in a song. This study aims to find student’s ability in identifying kinds of figurative language and their meanings in lyrics of Mariah carey selected song. Descriptive qualitative method is the method used in this study. The instrument for collecting  the data was test questions which consisted  of 12 questions. In this research, the subject  was  11th grade class of  SMA Swasta  GKPI  Padang  Bulan which consisted  of  28 students. The result  of  data  analysis shows that the students  mean score  is 76,7 the highest score is 92, while the lowest score is 50. There were 4 student, (14,3%), belonged to the very good level and 21 students (75 %), belonged to the good level and there were 3 students, (10,7%), belonged to sufficient level.Kind of figurative language was found in Mariah Carey songs lyric are simile, metaphor, hyperbole, and personification. The dominant types of figurative language found in Mariah Carey song lyrics is metaphor.From an analysis ,the researcher concluded that most of the students of the second grade class of SMA Swasta GKPI Padang Bulan Medan got dificulties to different between metaphors and personifications in identifying figurative language in mariah carey’s songs lyrics.

The aim of this study is to analyze the types of figurative language which found in Ugly Love novel by Colleen Hoover. This study used figurative language theory by Leech to analyze the data which the researcher found in the novel. The method of this study is descriptive qualitative method. The total of the data are 87 data to be analyzed in the types of figurative language. The data will be identify and classify into 8 types of figurative language by Leech. The result of this study found 6 types of figurative language in this Ugly Love novel. That are 33 data of personifications (33 data) , 19 data of similes, 11 data of irony, 10 data of hyperbole, 9 data of metaphors, and 5 data of metonymy. The most of dominant type of figurative language in the Ugly Love novel by Colleen Hoover is personification.

Individuals use language as a means of communication everywhere and at all times. In today's world, figurative language is often encountered in everyday life, such as in song lyrics. Figurative language is a way of describing something without saying it directly. This research aims to investigate the figurative languages found in the lyrics of the song "Grenade" by analyzing their context and attempting to decipher their meaning. The data tool is song lyrics found on the internet, and the research approach is descriptive qualitative analysis. The results revealed that this album employs figurative language such as metaphor, hyperbole, and repetition. Furthermore, the most figurative words used in the lyrics is hyperbole. Abstract This study is entitled Figurative Language in The Song Lyrics of 5 Seconds of Summer and One Direction’s Albums. This study is aimed to identify figurative language and explain the meaning of those types of figurative language found in the song lyrics of 5 Seconds of Summer’s album entitled “Sounds Good Feels Good” and One Direction’s album entitled “Midnight Memories”. The data were collected using the documentation research method. After the required data were collected, they were analyzed using qualitative method. The analysis of the data were presented in a descriptive way to give clear explanation. The findings show that in 5 Seconds of Summer’s album five types of figurative language found in the data; they are: personification, irony, simile, metaphor and hyperbole. While from One Direction’s album four types of figurative language were found; they are: personification, simile, metaphor and hyperbole. There were two types of meaning found in the data; they are: conceptual meaning and connotative meaning. It can be concluded that in the rock band’s album Sounds Good Feels Good irony was found; however, in pop band’s album Midnight Memories irony was not found. Both in those two albums conceptual meaning was more frequently used.

Figurative language can appear in various types and the meaning may not be determined by its components. This study aims to identify and analyze the meaning of figurative language found in the song lyrics “Passenger's album all the little lights”. There are two theories used in this study. The first is the theory of figurative language proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger, and the second is the theory of meaning by Leech as the supporting theory. The data in this study were directly taken from Passenger’s fourth album. The album consists of twelve songs. They were collected by documentation method and note taking technique. The collected data were analyzed  using qualitative and descriptive method. This study applied informal method to present the analysis. The result of this study shows that there are nine types of figurative language found in song lyrics. They were allusion, simile, metaphor, irony, personification, hyperbole, dead metaphor, metonymy, and paradox. Most of the figurative expressions found in those songs were similes. Four out of seven types of meaning used in those lyrics in order to understand the figurative meaning in the song lyrics; they were connotative meaning, conceptual meaning, affective meaning, and collocative meaning. All the songs which are analyzed have the main theme about life and love.

The research deals with figurative language, aimed to identify the types and interpret the ideas or messages implicitly or explicitly expressed with theoretical based proposed by Kennedy and Giola (2005) that figurative language is an expression of comparison that relies not on its literal meaning, but rather on its connotations. Figurative language is also commonly used in song lyrics and this is referred to as the object of the research, that is the song lyrics taken Evanescence’s album Anywhere but Home. This album consists of five songs:  Everybody’s Fool, Going under, Haunted, Taking over Me and Thoughtless. Qualitative content analysis as the use of replicable and valid method for making specific inferences from text to other states or properties of its source under Descriptive Qualitative Approach, pioneered by Krippendorff (2000) is applied here. The results show that Hyperbole, Repetition, Personification, Metaphor, Erotesis, Merism, referring to Kosasih’s category of figurative language are found in the song album with various meanings. This study describes the conceptual metaphors of love in the lyrics of Taylor Swift's 1989 album. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of metaphors and conceptualize love-themed data. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with proficient free listening technique by taking song lyrics from Taylor Swift. The data source is song lyrics in Taylor Swift's 1989 album. The selection of the data sources is motivated by the fact that Taylor Swift is a singer who produces songs based on personal experiences. This makes the puns for the song more beautiful and poetic. The results show that the conceptualization of love metaphors found on Taylor Swift's 1989 album namely (1) love is a game, (2) love is fire, (3) heartbreak is the national anthem, (4) love is the object of trouble, (5) love is the throne, (6) love as glassware, (7) love as an object of color, (8) love is journey, (9) love is a sin, (10) love as a ship object, (11) love is life, (12) love is a trap, (13) love as an object falls, (14) love as an intoxicating object, (15) love is power and (16)  love as an object is hunted.AbstrakPenelitian ini mendeskripsikan metafora konseptual cinta dalam lirik lagu Taylor Swift di album 1989. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan penggunaan metafora dan mengonseptualisasikan data yang bertema cinta. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik simak bebas libat cakap dengan mengambil lirik lagu dari Taylor Swift. Sumber data yang digunakan ialah lirik-lirik lagu pada album 1989 milik Taylor Swift. Pemilihan sumber data dilatarbelakangi bahwa Taylor Swift seorang penyanyi yang menghasilkan lagu berdasarkan pengalaman pribadi bersama pasangannya. Hal ini memunculkan permainan kata-kata yang terkesan lebih indah dan puitis. Hasil identifikasi menunjukkan konseptualisasi metafora cinta yang ditemukan pada album 1989 milik Taylor Swift antara lain (1) cinta adalah permainan, (2) cinta adalah api, (3) patah hati adalah lagu kebangsaan, (4) cinta sebagai objek masalah, (5) cinta adalah takhta, (6) cinta sebagai barang pecah belah, (7) cinta sebagai objek warna, (8) cinta adalah perjalanan, (9) cinta sebagai perbuatan dosa, (10) cinta sebagai objek kapal, (11) cinta adalah kehidupan, (12) cinta adalah perangkap, (13) cinta sebagai objek yang jatuh, (14) cinta sebagai objek yang memabukkan, (15) cinta adalah kekuatan, dan (16) cinta sebagai objek yang diburu.
