This research was aimed to apply cooperative learning (Team Pair Solo) as the technique to solve students problems in reading class of the third semester of nursing students in Stikes Patria Husada Blitar. This research design was a Classroom Action Research. The researcher used several instruments; such as observation checklist, field notes, and reading comprehension test. The finding showed that by using cooperative learning (Team Pair Solo), students comprehension in reading could be better than when they were taught by using traditional grammar translation method. This result could be seen from the data, in terms of the students individual reading comprehension test, in preliminary research, the number of students who passed the minimum passing grade (64) were only 2 students (20%). In Cycle 1, 10 students (100%) could pass the minimum passing grade (64). The improvement of students reading comprehension was due to the use of cooperative learning (Team Pair Solo) as the technique in teaching reading. It showed that by using cooperative learning (Team Pair Solo), students motivation and self-esteem increased since the cooperative learning (Team Pair Solo) could accommodate students to be well prepared to the reading passage by discussing in team, pair with other student, and finally they have great self-esteem to stand by their self in reading class. Consequently, students became more motivated in terms of in-class discussion and offered opinions since they were accustomed to express their idea through cooperative learning (Team Pair Solo).     It was suggested to all of English teachers/ lecturers to apply this technique as one of the methods to increase students motivation in English class and also could be used to increase students reading skill. Other researchers were expected to elaborate this cooperative learning with other technique so that there would be alot of technique could be used as refference in teaching english. This research aimed to apply Team Pair Solo technique to improve students’ reading problemof XI IIS-4 of SMAN 4 Kediri. This research design was a Classroom Action Research. The researcher used several instruments; such as observation checklist, field notes, and reading comprehension test. Artikel berikut berkonsentrasi pada penelitian tentang reading skill dimana reading skill merupakan skill yang sangat penting untuk dikuasai oleh mahasiswa pada prodi pendidikan bahasa inggris terutama pada mata kuliah Reading Comprehension II. Ada beberapa masalah yang sangat mendasar dan krusial terkait dengan proses kegiatan belajar mengajar pada mata kuliah Reading Comprehension II yang dihadapi oleh para mahasiswa. Pertama adanya kesulitan dalam memahami materi dan kurangnya motivasi untuk membiasakan diri melakukan kegiatan membaca untuk meningkatkan penguasaan vocab. Hal inilah yang melatarbelakangi peneliti untuk melakukan penelitian untuk mengetahui reading skill pada mahasiswa sebelum dan setelah mendapatan pengajaran menggunakan cooperative script dan adanya efektivitas dalam penggunaan cooperative script dalam kegiatan belajar menagajar mahasiswa pendidikan bahasa inggris STKIP PGRI Nganjuk. Cooperative script merupakan salah satu teknik mengajar dari cooperative learning. Cooperative script ini diaplikasikan untuk mengajar mahasiswa semester dua program pendidikan bahasa inggris STKIP PGRI Nganjuk tahun ajaran 2015/2016 yang terdiri dari 27 mahasiswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimenl. Berdasarkan dari data yang diambil dari pre-test dan post-test pada penelitian ini, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaan cooperative script dalam pengajaran reading skill adalah efektif. Hal in berarti bahwa adanya kemajuan pada reading skill mahasiswa pada mata kuliah Reading Comprehension II setelah mendapatkan pengajaran menggunakan cooperatove script. Nilai rata-rata pada pre-test adalah 54.81 dan rata-rata pada post-test adalah 74.07. Berdasarkan pada hasil perhitungan ini maka peneliti menemukan bahwa to adalah 10.58. setelah menemukan nila to langkah terakhir adalah mencari nilai tabel dengan nilai 2.04 (5%). Sehingga peneliti dapat menjelaskan bahwa to mempunyai nilai yang lebih tinggi dari pada nilai pada t-tabel juga pada level perbedaan signifikan pada hasil antara pre-test dan post-test. Hal ini menunjukkan adanya hasil yang signifikan pada penelitian ini.

<p class="1eAbstract-text">Music is part of human life. Studies show that music influences psychological, cognitive, behavior, and emotion sides of human being. Research shows that music also influences students’ performance on reading comprehension test and test anxiety level. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of classical and personal preference music on students’ reading comprehension test performance and test anxiety level at grade XII SMAK 4 PENABUR Jakarta. The experiment design of this study is Pretest Posttest Non-Randomly Assigned Design. The students in experiment group get a treatment that is listening to classical music fifteen minutes before and while doing reading comprehension test. Students in another experiment group get a treatment that is listening personal preference music fifteen minutes before and while doing reading comprehension test in English class. Mean obtained from pretest and posttest of experiment class will be compared with mean from pretest and posttest of control class to explain whether or not they are statistically different. The study shows that classical and personal preference music influence students’ reading comprehension performance and test anxiety. Study also shows that there is negative correlation between students’ test anxiety and reading comprehension performance.</p>

Exposing abundance of English information related to students’ educational background knowledge can improve their competence in comprehending English texts. Thus, this study developed ESP reading materials for accounting students. It was aimed at finding out what kind of ESP reading materials should be developed to increase accounting students’ reading skill, and examining the validity, practicality, and potential effect of the developed ESP reading materials.The product was developed by using Akker covering the phases of analysis, design, evaluation and revision. Furthermore, formative evaluation proposed by Tessmer was used. This study involved 40 students selected by using purposive technique. The data were gathered from the results of validation sheet questionnaire of content and instructional design, students’ responses questionnaire, and reading comprehension test. The analysis of validation sheet questionnaire from two experts’ judgement indicated that the developed product had very high validity (3.61). Meanwhile, the results of students’ responses questionnaire showed that the average score in one-to-one evaluation was 3.3 and in small group evaluation was 3.5. It revealed that the product was denoted as practical in which both evaluations were in high practicality category. At last, the results of reading comprehension test showed that there was 64% of the students could pass the minimum mastery criterion. Thus, the findings indicated that ESP reading materials for accounting students can be determined had average potential effect after being implemented to the students in a real class. In other words, ESP reading materials developed in this study were potential effect enough to increase the students’ reading skill.

Mastering many languages is a softskill that every nurse must acquire in order to make patients feel comfortable and decrease the anxiety.. English is one of many languages which is  widely used in the world. So, it is important to a nurse to be able to communicate using English. This research was intended to apply cooperative learning TPS (Team Pair Solo) as the technique to enhance students’ English-speaking skill when they took the “communicating class” in the fifth semester in Stikes Patria Husada Blitar. This research was a Classroom Action Research. The subject was 10 students of the fifth semester. The researcher used several instruments; such as observation checklist, field notes, test, and questionnaire. The findings showed that TPS were effective in improving the speaking skill of the student in class. This could be seen by the increase of students’ mean scores in the test results 65.1 in preliminary study became 81.3 in the first cycle and this also meant that 100% students could pass the minimum passing grade of 78 which was setted by the researcher as the criteria of success of the research itself. The improvement could also be seen on the results of the field notes that showed positivity, raise of motivation, and good responses from the students. It showed that by using cooperative learning (Team Pair Solo), students’ motivation and self-esteem increased since the TPS could accommodate students to be well prepared before they speak by discussing in team, pair with other student, and finally they have great self-esteem to stand by their self infront of the class. Other researchers were expected to elaborate this cooperative learning with other technique so that there would be alot of technique could be used as reference in teaching English

As an international language, English plays an important role in making people acquire knowledge, information, skills in communication in order to compete with other people in the international level. For example, those who master English can easily communicate with people from other countries in English and can read scientific books written in English. In Indonesia, there is a great demand for the people to learn English both in formal education and in non-formal education. In order to take an active part or even to survive in the present state of technological advancements and rapid growth of the globalization, someone has to have proficient mastery of the English language. One way to develop students’ achievement is through cooperative learning, they can work together, appreciate others’ opinion and give others chance to share their opinion, therefore the students can have higher motivation because they are encouraged by others. The sample of this research is STIK Bina Husada students, the researcher gives treatment to the experimental group, that is Team Assisted Individualized (TAI), the results are compared between before and after the treatment, to analyze the motivation changes, the researcher distributes a quetionnaire  through likert skale and t test, and to analyze students’ reading comprehension, the researcher distributes a reading test. Based on statistical analysis, it is found that there is significant influence of cooperative learning to the students’ learning motivaion and english reading comprehension where t value in students motivaion 8.212, reading comprehension 7.008, in .000 significant level. Keywords: TAI, learning motivation, reading achievement

This study deals with the improvement of the students’ achievement in reading comprehension through advance organizer strategy. The objectives of this research were to improve the students’ achievement in reading comprehension as well as the process of learning reading comprehension by using advance organizer strategy.  The subject of the study was grade XI IPA 2 Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Binjai consisting of 33 students. The data of this study were obtained by using test, observation sheets and interview. This research was conducted in two cycles because in the pre-test (without treatment), the average of the students’ score was 59,24. In the first cycle test, it was 74,30. It is lower than the minimum passing grade, and if is viewed from the observation sheets, the situation of the learning process hasn’t met the criteria of the success. So the writer continued to the second cycle. There was a significant progress on the students’ achievement in reading comprehension in the second cycle, and the average of the students was 82,94. The students were more active and enthusiastic in following the lesson. Therefore, the teaching reading comprehension through advance organizer strategy can improve the students’ achievement in reading comprehension quantitatively and qualitatively.
