Extractive industries (mining and quarrying, in particular) is a strategically important part of the primary sector of Ukraine. The current state of the extractive industries is characterized by a certain revival, however only in a few sectors. The purpose of this paper is to provide insights to the extractive industry performance and identify the main factors of change that will ensure growth in the primary sector. The analysis showed that as of today the extractive industry companies demonstrate low performance efficiency (a slowdown in production growth rate, fluctuations in cost effectiveness and profits, a significant share of unprofitable businesses), their technical and production capacity fail to meet the global trends which is underpinned by ineffective opportunity management in the given sector. For extractive industries, change management gains critical importance subject to their high environmental dynamism. Changes in the business environment in the mining and quarrying sectors are generated by the factors of space, time, consumer, safety, products, price – all of which initiate external changes; reduce (curtail) lag changes; trigger changes in the market infrastructure and the range of related services; promote government support extension; yet again prove the need for changes in extraction engineering and technology, raw materials processing and enrichment; assign changes in approaches to cost control and pricing methods. The key messages that make companies move forward to change should be: increasing difficulties in confronting the entropic effects of the external environment; crisis phenomena within companies; deterioration of market environment; company management or any stakeholders’ (their groups) initiatives of changes; contact group information on certain requirements for products, prices, resources cost, etc. The research findings have revealed the following headwinds that hamper changes: the lack of effective management and professional managers capable of implementing the entire cycle of changes; inefficient organizational structure, the presence of conflicts in the organization; resistance to change; undeveloped corporate culture of the enterprise.

Local content policies for extractive industries have attracted increased interest. Local content requirements are often included in legislation or contracts. Such efforts may be constrained by low capacity of potential suppliers, low skills, and the general business environment. A number of extractive industry companies have introduced supplier development programmes that attempt to reduce the constraints and skill gaps. Government industrial policies on local content vary: some prescribe quantitative targets for local content, while others focus on improving skills and raising the capacity of domestic industry. Infrastructure built for extractive industries can often be used by other economic activities. Difficulties in finding suitable financing arrangements have, however, limited the number of successful multi-user extractive industry-related infrastructure projects.

Innovation requires change. In the business environment, resistance to change is deleterious to organizations. The ability to continuously adapt to change enables firms to achieve sustainable value creation and competitive advantage. Major organizational changes for innovation can anticipate resistance, especially if proposed changes alter values and visions related to the existing order. Change may be viewed in terms of the alteration in activities and tasks of the organization. These may range from subtle modifications in procedures and operations (such as continuous improvement or small incremental steps); to transformational radical changes (such as rapid expansion into international markets, mergers or major restructuring in an organization). On the other hand, for firm to be innovative there must be awareness throughout the organization of the need for innovation. Along with the streamlining of operations and processes to improve product and service delivery, the mindset of employees needs to change. Since innovation is an important factor for future growth of any business venture, change management is required for achieving the required business strategies and practices. This case study was conducted to review change that drives innovative management. It was an exploratory study and had been done by using semi-structured interviews with ten managers. The research questions explored were: What were the drivers of change? How did the drivers support organizational objectives and goals? And what was the resistance to change? This firm had Continuous Innovation or Improvement for its corporate culture, and this research showed that it was the most important driver for its change. It was also found that the most important ingredient for successful change management was employee involvement. Therefore, management should pay more attention to human dimensions when implementing change. They have to invest more time in communicating, training and following up on the change system or process. It is important for management to seek and take into consideration the input from employees into procedures for implementing change.

One of the main concerns in companies is quality management and its relationship to firm performance. Recently a growing interest in research is the important role of the business environment in the competitive strategy choices of companies. By proposing a conceptual framework for a general model that explains the quality management practices-firm performance link and the business environment-firm performance link, we test the moderating role of competitive strategy in the two links empirically. A survey was conducted of 229 pork-processing firms in the emerging economy of China. We find that specific quality management practices contributing to higher performance include in-company quality management, supplier quality management, employee involvement in quality management and process management, while quality design and customer quality management are not included. Findings also indicate that the business environment (government support in our research) has a positive relationship to firm performance. Competitive strategy only strengthens the relationship between firm performance and quality design, process management, supplier quality management and customer quality management.

Curent situation of raw material base and study of limestone like construction stone deposits in the Republic of Serbian were relatively poorly considered during the last decades, and the main problems are the following: low production capacity fragmentation of production, needs for raw materials homogenization and delivering of standard quality, undeveloped market, the recession of the domestic economy and the economies in the region, the relatively low level of exploration by many deposits, especially lack of knowledge of the occurrence legality for certain types and quality of raw materials and lack of complete quality indicators for raw material, which sometimes causes the utilization of only the highest quality deposit parts. This paper provides an overview of active quarries in the Republic Srpska with exploitation of limestone like technical building stone and present an attempt to determine the basic quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the raw material and the current working conditions at these quarries. The purpose of such a review would be in an effort to create a clearer picture about production, market, social and other aspects of the limestone exploitation in the Republika Srpska and the realistic possibilities of maintaining and developing of these mineral resources utilization, which can certainlybe interesting for the development of many other industries in the Republic Srpska.

This article analyzes the situation of innovative approaches to building business processes and interaction between universities, the government,  and representatives of the business environment. A methodology is proposed by the authors for calculating the feasibility of government support for small innovative enterprises (SIEs) as independent small business entities organized at higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation, the activities of which are aimed at research, development, implementation, and commercialization. The importance and role of small innovative entrepreneurship in the economy of the country and large cities is becoming the main world trend. Russia is trying to match its innovation strategy in small business, but the success is, unfortunately, still negligible. On the part of the government, millions of rubles are allocated to support small innovative entrepreneurship, as well as the construction of technology parks, the creation of business incubators, technological laboratories, and platforms being organized at universities in order to ensure the implementation of innovative projects. In accordance with the Federal Law of the Russian Federation No. 217-FL of August 2, 2009, universities were able to register small innovative enterprises on their territory as independent small businesses in the sphere of innovative development, whose activities are focused mainly on the commercialization of intellectual property objects and their active promotion in the market.Nevertheless, the implementation of new technologies and know-how is associated with greater risks of SIEs and needs a methodical approach to assess the appropriateness of providing government support to such enterprises. We are going to consider and calculate the indicator of the feasibility of government support for a small innovative enterprise in the amount of 50 million rubles for a period of five years for its development and will prove the increase in the efficiency of the enterprise and the possibilities for its development through the government support mechanisms for innovations.

Fermented beverages have become a powerful player in the global beverage sector because of the increased demand for health products and their nutritional benefits to societies. This study aimed to identify consumer acceptance and willingness to pay for fermented drinks developed by MARDI. It also will evaluate the market potential of products among industry players. In this study, the data was collected using structured questionnaire and face-to-face interviews focused on the population in Peninsular Malaysia. The population's selection by stratified random sampling technique and the major survey locations included mall and hypermarket. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to discover the underlying structure of observed variables. A total of 400 respondents had participated in the study. A field survey conducted showed that 54% of respondents knew about functional foods and 55% of these are aware of functional foods based on fruits were in the market. The survey found that 30% of respondents had taken fermented drinks before, while the rest had never known this drink. Age and income have a significant influence on consumers' willingness to pay fermented drinks at a reasonable price if this product is available in the Malaysian market. Government support is needed to encourage the cultivation of indigenous fruit in Malaysia. It can be done through the provision of seed subsidies and financial resources to farmers in expanding and increasing the supply of these raw materials for the production of value-added products.
