Economic Value Added (EVA) is a value-based accounting measure used by companies to measure the amount of value created for shareholders. EVA requires the conversion of accounting values to economic values. This conversion process is known as the EVA adjustment. If accounting values are not converted to economic values, the value of the EVA can be distorted. Previous studies have shown that companies are experiencing difficulties in implementing EVA adjustments. To reduce these difficulties, companies have decided to limit their EVA adjustments to ten or even fewer. The research problem is that if the appropriate adjustments are not made, an inaccurate EVA measure will be calculated. The aim of the research is to measure whether deferred taxes impact EVA. The study is conducted within a quantitative research paradigm. Secondary data analysis was carried out on JSE-listed food producers over a seven-year period, from 2004 to 2010. The unadjusted EVA was compared to the adjusted EVA measure to determine the before and after effects of deferred taxes on EVA. The findings of the study revealed that deferred taxes either understated or overstated the value of the EVA during the period 2004–2010. In addition, the results from the regression analysis revealed an overall significance for all deferred tax predictors. The results from the study showed that deferred tax had a significant impact on the value of EVA. Therefore, the study recommends that companies implement the deferred tax adjustment on EVA.

Abstract Indonesia is known as a ‘Paradise under the Sea,’ with the richness and beauty of its coral reefs. This ecosystem is an important asset that has high economic value and a potential source of community income. However, this wealth has not been utilized optimally by coastal communities, especially fishermen. This is backed by their poor economic conditions. This paper discusses the dynamic of fishermen’s income and the influencing factors on the West and East Coasts of Sumatra Island. The fishermen’s income on both coasts is dominated by income from capture fisheries, which fluctuates throughout the year. The income of east coast fishermen is higher and more varied than west coast fishermen. This paper identifies three factors that influence the differences: 1) technological capacity of the fishermen’s fleet and fishing gear, 2) fish marketing and seasonal variations throughout the year, along with the degradation of coastal resources, and 3) policies and programs for fishermen’s empowerment and development in coastal areas. This paper uses quantitative and qualitative methods from the assessment of social aspects of coral reefs conducted by the COREMAP LIPI team. The authors also utilize secondary data from related documents, research results, papers and books.

The Siamese orange is a superior commodity because it has economic value and is specific to the characteristics of the tidal swamp agroecosystems. Uncertainty triggered by natural conditions and the market causes farmers to lose money, fail to harvest, and suffer, thus affecting the sustainability of their farming business. The final result of the farmer's business describes the magnitude of the Impact felt by the farmer and the farmer's ability to support the losses that can be experienced. This assessment aims to have a comprehensive CVA (Climate Vulnerability Assessment) for the primary commodities in 3 sub-districts in Batola (Carbon, Mandasatana, and Marabahan) and translate the results of activities with recommendations for these various districts.  The research was conducted using survey methods, direct observations in the field, Focus Group Discussions, and in-depth interviews with respondents, namely farmers, traders, as well as community leaders and related agencies (Department of Food Crops and Horticulture (DTPH) and District Agricultural Extension Center) totaling 100 people. The DTPH of Batola Regency also collected secondary data. The data collected were analyzed descriptively. In the district of Cerbon (type A), the highest choice is citrus, then seasonal and mixed crops. The major decisions in the Mandastana sub-district (type B) are monoculture oranges, then seasonal crops, diverse crops, and Galam forest plants. In the Marabahan sub-district (type C), apart from citrus, oil palm and rubber have been developed as industrial support plants

The research concerned here was to know the economic rationality of residents who dwelled again in their former village after the eruption of Mount Merapi in 2010 and refused to be relocated by the government. A combined research method, namely, a combination between a qualitative method and a quantitative one, was used to uncover the rationality. The qualitative part of the research was conducted first by deciding informants considered knowledgeable about the matter under research. Then the informants were interviewed in turns decided via snowball sampling. Some secondary data were used to support the qualitative research. As for the quantitative part of the research, it was conducted afterwards by turning members of the households in the village into respondents. The finding of the research is as follows. The residents perceive the disaster not only as a dangerous natural phenomenon but also as an economic blessing because tourists visits to the areas suffering from the impact of the disaster enable residents to have activities that have economic value. That economic rationality was what motivated them to return to their village though its condition is categorized by the government as unfit for dwelling.

Economic Value Added (EVA) is a value based accounting measure used by companies to measure the amount of value created for shareholders. Accounting values derived from company annual financial statements (AFS), are used to calculate EVA. EVA requires the conversion of accounting values to economic values. Previous studies have shown that companies are experiencing difficulties in implementing EVA adjustments. To reduce these difficulties, companies have decided to limit their EVA adjustments to ten or even fewer. At global, regional, and national levels, issues associated with IUU fishing activities currently constitute a major world-wide threat to fisheries stocks. There have already been many international initiatives supported by international organizations such as the FAO which have been engaged in the International Plan of Action on IUU fishing. Although an increasing number of countries are trying to develop national plan of actions on IUU fishing, in many parts, IUU fishing practices are still common place and constitute a real threat to local fishers. Indeed, there is increasing global concern about IUU fishing practices due to the fact that global fish stocks are declining drastically. Approximate estimations suggest that overall at least 30% of world-wide fisheries catch is obtained from IUU fishing activities. This shows that the problem is increasingly severe, especially in view of the accelerating overall decline in available fisheries resources. This paper presents briefly regarding stock assessment and fisheries management as well as IUU fishing activities that undertake in Indonesian waters. The impact of IUU fishing to the result of stock assessment, that finally used as basic information for fisheries management is also discuss. Recommendation ismade in relation to eliminate IUU fishing activities and improvement of stock assessment and fisheries management.
