Quality of material issues have been a significant source of concern since the dawn of recorded history. Building materials are essential and should be performed according to standard specifications because they cover around 60% of the project cost. Prior to project construction, specific codes, standards, and specifications should be available. Using all required materials does not guarantee a sound building appearance or function. Even with suitable materials, workmanship, and supervision, unexpected output can affect a building. Quality workmanship is a comprehensive approach to bolstering building durability, serviceability, and safety. The study evaluated Ambo University's building construction materials and quality. Convenience and quota sampling techniques were collected from all contractors and consultants involved in building construction via questionnaires and interviews. A comprehensive literature review identified 15 major factors affecting building construction materials quality and workmanship, and respondents ranked them in the order of importance. Defects in existing buildings and ongoing projects had observed due to non-compliance with construction materials and workmanship based on specifications and standards. The results indicated that Ambo University building has no defect free structure, including the degree and type of defects vary. A 94% of the studied buildings had moisture leakage, plastering defects, paint peeling, and cracks. Hence, the consultants and Ambo University project representatives should adhere with the standard specifications, and must exercise their profession according to the ethical code of conduct. All of these, it will play a vital role in the success of construction projects.

Building construction projects are carried out using various material resources. These materials have to be managed to enhance value, minimize waste and ensure that time and cost related goals are attained. The research looked at the factors militating against effective building materials management (EBMM) in order to identify major factors leading to material wastage in construction project delivery in the FCT Abuja, Nigeria. The study adopted purposive sampling method to distribute 100 copies of survey questionnaire to some selected professionals from both consulting and contracting firms in the study area. 86 copies of questionnaire retrieved were analyzed to know the implication of these factors on the process and delivery of construction projects. 25 identified factors militating against EBMM were ranked using RII. The finding of the study revealed that lack of compliance to materials specification and standards (RII=0.81), little knowledge on materials specifications and standards (RII=0.80), poor communication system (RII=0.79), were the top factors militating against materials management. The findings further indicate that delay and abandonment of project (RII=0.82), cost overrun (RII=0.81) and ineffective allocation of materials (RII=0.79), were the three major implications these will have on EBMM. The study concluded that for the EBMM, professional involved in building production processes should understand the importance of specifications and standards to avoid disastrous effects on building materials usage and management in the construction projects delivery.

Proper completion of a public building construction project is dependent on the effectiveness of the construction supervision. However, it has become increasingly difficult to finish construction projects within the specified time, budget, and quality standards due to poor supervision practices. Approaches such as quantitative and qualitative research and descriptive research types were used in this study. Questionnaires survey were issued to 104 respondents, with 11 representing clients, 22 representing consultants, and 71 representing contractors. There were 33 factors identified, which were then divided into seven groups for further analysis. It was discovered that the top-ranked factors that influence construction supervision practice are: supervisors' lack of skills and experience, incompleteness and consistency in the design, lack of appropriate decision making, location of the project, material and equipment costs, a lack of construction materials supply, and effect of weather conditions. The Relative Importance Index was calculated to determine whether or not the parties agreed on the factors and ranked them according to their importance. Most respondents suggested that supervisors should receive proper training, and comprehensive and detailed drawings should be provided on time. In addition, it was discovered that the top three essential group elements affecting supervision practice of the public building project are supervisory, design, and management-related aspects.

The author analyses the factors, which affected the volume of actual costs of investment-and-construction projects in 2020-2021 most of all. The three major factors, including price dynamics in the market of building materials, situation in the market of construction tools and equipment as well as the trends in the transport-and-logistic sphere are considered. The order of modification of the Technique of drawing up the estimate of the contract on the project, caused by the growth of costs for the used materials is described. The conclusions on the prerequisites of the rise in price of the realization value of the construction projects in current and following year are drawn.

Estimating of cost for building construction projects with minimum error at the conceptual stage of project development is quite  essential for planning. This study seeks to evaluate factors responsible for cost escalation of building construction projects.  Questionnaires were administered to examine and assess these factors. Subsequently, the mean score value of each factor was determined. In addition, Correlation and Linear regression analyses were used to establish the relationship between these factors. Factors responsible for cost escalation in projects were examined as well as the impact of those factors, and occurrence of those factors on project cost. The result of the analysis showed that, the most agreed factors responsible for project cost escalation were; inadequate supervision, irregular payment, and design error, having high mean values of 4.25, 4.20, and 4.15, respectively. Also, correlation analysis result established that the factors responsible for cost escalation and the impact of cost escalation had significant R and R2 of 0.81 and 0.70 respectively. Addressing these factors would go a long way in reducing the escalation of building project cost. Never the less, an effective cost management strategy is absolutely necessary to safeguard and sustain the construction  industry. Tower crane plays a vital role in materials delivery in construction projects. General contractors often use technical and commercial quotes to calculate number of cranes and their engagement duration in project, and they often have to deal with commercial and time risks. The main reason for this approach is the lack of standardised methodologies for calculating tower cranes engagement. Identifying the optimal number of cranes, their location and duration of engagement at the building site are the major factors that can reduce the risks considering the time and cost by increasing productivity and thus decreasing the required time. Calculation will be based on different production parameters -space per worker, concrete production per crane or worker, lifting time. This paper presents a methodology for calculating the required number of cranes and their optimal positioning. Proposed model for crane engagement optimisation is developed using the Critical Path Method in Primavera P6 software.

Research from the International Energy Agency about indoor ambiences and nearly zero energy buildings (nZEB) in the past has been centred on different aspects such as the prediction of indoor conditions as a function of the weather using laboratory material properties for simulations and real sampled data for validation. Thus, it is possible to use real data for defining behavioural groups of indoor ambiences as a function of real vapour permeability of internal coverings. However, this method is not suitable for modelling it and predicting its behaviour under weather changes, which is of interest to improve the method of selection and use of building construction materials. In this research, artificial intelligence procedures were employed as the first model of permeable coverings material behaviour to provide a newer understanding of building materials and applications for the generation of new control procedures between the mechanical and electronic point of view of building construction materials.

In the trend of global warming, storms, hurricanes, high temperature and other extreme weather phenomena occur frequently. In the field of project construction, the assets value of the building is exposed, so the construction projects are very vulnerable to natural disasters causing huge losses. Who bears in the both sides of engineering contract, the reasons and consequences of the loss and the specific responsibilities are ambiguous without clearly defined. This paper states the importance to grasp the principle of appropriate risk sharing and explain both responsibilities clearly in natural disasters, how to choose appropriate method to evaluate the natural disaster risk and select suitable building construction contract.

Cost performance is the fundamental criteria for success of any project. Most projects face huge amount of cost variations in Nigeria construction industry. Its performance is based on the three major parameters which include, cost, time and quality. This research was carried out to analyze elemental cost variation in building construction projects in Abuja Nigeria. Secondary data was obtained for the study and analysed using ANOVA, correlation, and regression. The result shows that the most critical factors that contribute to cost variation include unstable economy, improper planning, inaccurate estimate and fraudulent practice. The study finally recommended the best way of a averting the problem which include stabilization of the economy by the government through monitoring of price, stability of cost of labor and building materials. Contractors should employ qualified and experience staff in order to be able to follow the different technical and managerial aspects of the project. The study has concluded that there was no significant difference amongst the variation in the costs of selected groups of building elements. This was based on analysis of variance results. This meant that notwithstanding the magnitude of changes to elemental costs, no single element could be isolated as being exceptional in terms of cost variations. It was concluded that in terms of degree of influence on change in initial contract sums, the Services elements was ranked 1st, based on an R2 value of 25.2%. Substructure had the least influence on changes in the initial contract sum (R2 value of 6.71%).
