The learning needs of English students have been researched over the past decades in different countries, especially among non-speaking English ones. The core goal of these studies was to examine if learner needs/wants and learning outcomes of the English course/curriculum provided are sufficiently matched, i.e., whether or not students feel satisfied (because their needs/wants are met). Expanding this line of research, the current study attempts to find out the needs for English learning among gifted high school students in the current Vietnam context by seeking the answer to the main question: How do these students report their needs for English learning? The findings are supposed to provide useful insights into this English learning – teaching setting. One hundred and eighty English-majored students from five gifted high schools in five provinces of Vietnam participated in a questionnaire-interview survey. The obtained results show that most participants opted for English because they needed it for future employment and cross-cultural/national communications for long-term purposes. As a result, they wanted to practice more English speaking and listening skills rather than other components of English knowledge (pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary) and skills (reading, writing). Yet, their English practices in the classroom did not place much emphasis on speaking-listening skills, i.e., their needs were not very satisfactorily met. Some of the findings echo those of previous research, and some are first reported in the current study.

The purpose of this research was to find out how the stage of proofing the Stewart theorem was conducted by students of the Mathematics Education Department at Catholic Widya Mandala University of Madiun. This type of research is qualitative research with descriptive data analysis. The number of research subjects consisted of three students. This study describes the stage of proofing Stewart's theorem by students. The data collection process begins with the subject being asked to prove Stewart's theorem and write down the process of proving Stewart's theorem on the answer sheet provided. From the results of data collection, it was found that the verification process carried out by the three students used the direct verification method, there were some similarities between the three students in initiating the verification process, namely: drawing a high line on a triangle and using the pythagoras theorem to add information used in the verification process, to proving that Stewart's theorem required precision when describing an algebraic form and understanding of algebraic concepts from numbers, to prove Stewart's theorem needed time according to the speed of thinking that proves, to prove the Stewart theorem required problem solving skills, logical thinking, critical, analytical and systematic. Thus it can be concluded that, in general the steps of proving Stewart's theorem carried out by students of the Mathematics Education Department, starting with drawing ABC triangles and also describing auxiliary lines (high of CE), collecting information used in the verification process, then use the information obtained to describe the shape of the right side of the equation becomes the left hand side, so that the equation applies.

This study aims to identify the learning needs and preferences of Korean EFL learners in the collegiate level studying at a university in Korea. The result of this study indicates that the respondents feel, among the four macro skills of English, speaking and writing are as equally difficult skills to master. These were followed by reading and listening, respectively. Also as the goal of English learning, the respondents answered getting a high score in such tests as TOEIC and TOEFL. As the effective strategies to learn English, the respondents consider immediate correction of mistakes in speaking and writing and using English as a method of instruction to be effective learning methods. On the other hand, the usage of the Korean language to teach English and the intensive grammar classes are considered as unhelpful in English learning.

Data collection usually begins in advance of fieldwork and often continues once we leave the field. While applied anthropologists pride themselves in basing their research on authentic, in-context observations, we also conduct preliminary research on the communities we visit during our stay in the field. Furthermore, research continues back home when analyzing the data that was carefully collected. If one of the strengths of ethnographic fieldwork is in providing the opportunity to create relationships with our research subjects, it is important to remember that these relationships are not confined to our time spent in the communities. We seek contacts and permission long before arrival, often going through various forms of research approval processes. Once we leave the field, modern technology and anthropological practices ensure that we maintain these relationships. Through disseminating research results to communities, using feedback mechanisms with research participants, and continuing research interests with the same groups, the anthropologists' interests expand beyond actual fieldwork.
