ABSTRACT: The capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is the largest rodent in the world. In the state of Acre, Brazil, populations of capybaras have been increasing significantly. The role of capybaras in the transmission of certain bacterial zoonotic infections is not well understood, including bacteria of the genus Salmonella. Salmonella spp. generally cause enteritis or septicemia in mammals, however many mammalian species can carry the bacteria asymptomatically and shed it in their feces. To better understand the possible role of capybaras as reservoirs of Salmonella spp., we conducted a study of Salmonella within fecal samples from capybara in Acre. In a convenience sample, 54 capybaras from two urban and two rural areas of Acre were captured and kept for three to four days for sampling. None of the animals were symptomatic of any intestinal illness. Three separate fecal samples were collected from each animal, during their stays in captivity. Each sample was cultured for the presence of Salmonella spp. at the bacteriology laboratory of the Veterinary College of the Federal University of Acre. Samples were seeded in tetrationate pre-enrichment broth and in pre-enrichment broth peptone. After a 24 hour of incubation all samples were streaked on MacConkey Agar (MC) and Salmonella-Shigella Agar (SS). Suggestive colonies were submitted to biochemical analysis. Salmonella compatible colonies according to biochemical profile were submitted to serotyping (Sorokit for Salmonella - Probac do Brasil). In addition, the first sample from each of the 54 capybara was tested for Salmonella spp. using PCR targeting gene hilA. Eight (5%) of the 162 samples examined by bacterial culture were positive for Salmonella spp., while four (7%) of the 54 examined by PCR were positive. From the eight positive animals on culture, five were from urban area and three from rural area. On PCR, only one positive animal was from urban area and four were from rural area. Overall, by either test, one of the 54 animals was positive. All samples were collected in free - living animals with no apparent clinical signs of salmonellosis, indicating the potential of capybara as reservoir on this ecosystem.

The role of Schools of Government has been relatively vague in the literature and in several countries’ public administrations. Consequently, schools operate in normative contexts that do not address their specific needs and purposes as educational entities. The present study seeks to comparatively describe institutional, strategic and educational characteristics of 17 Brazilian Federal Schools of Government to define aspects for their distinctive characterization. The qualitative research was based in document analysis and structured interviews with heads in schools. The results present a common identity between schools, as well as differences regarding their configurations. We attempt to propose a typology for the sampled schools which, we suggest, may be used as a means for a general theory for the comprehension of varying characteristics between schools of government, relating to their roles and formats. The study contributes to a better understanding regarding the role of schools of government and proposes further research to support their institutionalization and development.

AbstractBased on an exploratory research, this study highlights the role of pure rural entrepreneurship towards rural development of an inland and mountainous area of Portugal—Montemuro. Thanks to the Institute of Cultural Affairs and the energy of the rural communities, some people of the rural area have been stimulated thirty years ago to develop endogenous, entrepreneurial and innovative initiatives in the countryside. The benefits of all these rural entrepreneurial and endogenous initiatives are visible nowadays. Some villages of the rural area have more people, socio-economic dynamics were revitalized, and some job opportunities were created. Therefore, in a context of depopulation and crisis of peripheral and interior areas, our study demonstrates that rural entrepreneurship and innovation based on endogenous resources are key for the welfare of the rural society.

Cases of bribery involving auditors and auditees become one form of fraud that is difficult to detect. This is because of both parties are equally enjoying the benefits of the outcome of such unethical and immoral behavior. The increasing number of corruption cases, specifically bribes in the government sector from year to year in Indonesia makes the role of public sector auditors such as BPK RI questioned. In addition, some of the perpetrators of corruption are adherents of Islam, which is interesting to criticize because Islam is a religion that upholds the value of honesty and truth. This research used qualitative research method with postmodernism paradigm because the researcher wanted to study the relevance of classical Islamic philosopher, Al-Kindi’s thought with the truth value in the accountability and transparency principle. It is done as an effort to integrate the meaning of accountability and transparency principle according to accounting with truth value according to Al-Kindi’s thought to get deeper meaning which if useful for auditor in carrying out its function, in order to work in accordance with professional ethic code by upholding ethics and morality value

The closure of schools located in rural communities in Brazil by public authorities has been recurrent in the country. Based on the development of a quantitive and qualitative research, characterized as a case study, this work sought to analyze the closure process of a school located in the rural area of the municipality of Tocantinópolis-TO, and its consequences for students and their families. The research corpus consists of semi-structured interviews with social actors in the community (six students, a student’s parent, a principal and the municipality’s Secretary of Education), in addition to documents. Among the results of the research, it is worth mentioning that in 2018 the number of students who lived in Ribeirão Grande II village and its surroundings and who studied in the urban area of Tocantinópolis totaled 78, and that these students had to travel an average of 15 km daily by bus to the schools in urban area. Of this total, 28 students are between 4 and 10 years old and are enrolled from kindergarten I to 4th grade. Considering the principle that rural people need an education that is in and out of the countryside and that the school should value knowledge, cultural identity, history, as well as the struggles of peasants in training processes, it is important to emphasize the reopening of a school in the community to serve the students who live there.
