Little empirical research has been conducted on prodigies, in no small part due to the fact that there exists no agreed-upon definition with which to identify them. The most widespread definition characterizes a prodigy as a child who, at a very young age (typically before 10) performs at an adult professional level (Feldman & Goldsmith, 1986). We tested this definition by asking musicians and nonmusicians to (1) judge whether audio clips were played by a prodigy or a professional, and (2) identify which of two clips of the same piece was played by a prodigy. Listeners performed above chance in both tasks but by a very modest margin, and musicians performed better than nonmusicians. Their low performance implies that prodigies perform well enough to be judged in terms of the most demanding criteria of performance in the field. Yet older prodigies (11 to 14) were harder to distinguish from professionals than younger prodigies (under 10), suggesting a protracted developmental trajectory for prodigy performance. Furthermore, the rate at which prodigies progressed in their playing appears higher than for regular students, suggesting that rate of progress might be used as an additional criterion for defining music prodigy.

Stroke in young age is relatively uncommon but has serious impact on the affected family as well as society. The causes are more diversed and differ as compared to the elderly. Overall prognosis is better than elderly but there is still significant morbidity and mortality. We studied consecutive 50 stroke patients between the age of 15-45 admitted in Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The objective of this study was to evaluate the aetiological pattern, associated risk factors and inpatient outcome. Mean age of the patients was 35.8 ± 7.39 SD ( years ), female male ratio was 1 : 1.27. Infarction was found in 60% cases. Haemorrhage was in 40% cases. Dyslipidaemia was mostly associated risk factor in both infarction (83.3%) and in haemorrhage (75%). In 74% cases aetiology could not be identified. High prevalence of dyslipidemia as associated risk factor may indicate premature atherosclerosis. Overall in-patient mortality was12% .Mortality in haemorrhagic strokes is higher.   DOI = 10.3329/jom.v9i1.1419 J MEDICINE 2008; 9 : 10-15

Robert Johnson (1911–1938) is the most venerated of all pre-war blues musicians; the veneration borders on hagiography. Recently published revisionist literature has constructed a sociologically realistic portrayal of a professional musician working among other musicians for a contemporary audience in a specific historical context. This has left unexplained, however, the veneration granted to his music by the audience for his records from the 1960s to today. This paper presents the case that these two bodies of fact can be connected and the one serve as an explanation for the other. As Robert Johnson learned his craft from records and radio, and polished his songs to be recorded, he effectively developed a ‘for-the-record’ aesthetic that made his music sound different to that of his Delta contemporaries and many others who used musical techniques honed in performance for an audience. Decades later, when a ‘for-the-record’ aesthetic was the taken-for-granted standard in popular musical culture, Robert Johnson's records sounded better than those of his contemporaries, and the audience from the 1960s to today has had a reason to think that he and his music were special.

With the process of globalization and integration, more and more people tend to be bilingual. Undoubtedly, mastering a second language is significant. This thesis aims to explore how to conquer the difficulties in learning British English sounds through analyzing a British cartoon Peppa Pig.Chapter one begins with the research background, significance and purpose of research. The thesis takes the cartoon Peppa Pig as the starting point to demonstrate the role of distinctive features for Chinese learners to conquer negative transfer. The empirical research could be found in Chapter two, because of requiring to know the concrete circumstance of Chinese learners.Through the collection and analysis of data, we can know these problems which Chinese learners exist in the process of learning British English.Based on the comparison of Chinese and British English, Chapter three clarifies the difficulties in learning British English. As for Chinese learners, mastering distinctive features can promote learners to master British English sounds better than stress and rhythm. Chapter four states the role of the distinctive features in helping conquer Chinese negative transfer in the cartoon Peppa Pig. The final chapter is the conclusion of this thesis and involves a new study for Chinese learners to learn British English sounds under the distinctive features.

Advances in science and technology today, the one that needs attention is the concept of education for adults . Not always we talk and review the student's educational sputar school in the relatively young age of the reality on the ground , that is not little adults who should receive education , both informal and non -formal education , for example in the form of skills , courses , refresher courses and so on . The problem that often arises is how to tips and strategies membelajarkan adult postscript school is not occupied . In pskologis adults as students in learning activities can not be treated like regular students children whowere sitting in the school . Adults grow as a person and have a maturity of self-concept moves from dependency as occurs in childhood toward independence or self-direction . Organizations design sustainability framework to proactively assess and manage risks, make financial decisions, and to generate positive environmental and social impact. Empirical research in developed markets show that sustainable practices enable organizations to manage global risks such as COVID-19 and perform better than competitors. This paper explains how sustainable integrated approaches can enable organizations in emerging markets to have a robust model to overcome and flourish after times of crisis, by looking at a case study in Nepal.

SynopsisSeven volunteers received diazepam for a 3-week period, maximum dose rate 25 mg per day, and were tested on a variety of functions before, at two points during, and at two points after the period. Their performance was compared with that of 8 controls and was inferior on a number of measures. There was no indication either of habituation or of potentiation of the effects as the period continued. Equally, the low performance persisted for some time after administration ceased, although performance was on the whole better than during the experimental period. The particular measures showing deterioration suggested that the effects are similar to those of barbiturates as opposed to those of, for example, chlorpromazine.

Recently, women-only public places have emerged rapidly and become widespread all over South Korea, but very little empirical research has been conducted on how women construct interaction order in such places. This article is a Goffmanian ethnography of how Korean women construct interaction order in a women-only public place. It presents ‘sacred game’ as a conceptual scheme to inform ethnographic research on interaction order. By using this conceptual scheme, we conduct an ethnography of a women-only yoga studio in South Korea. This research shows that women actively engage in sacred game when they appear in a women-only public place where situational proprieties are ambiguous and actions are inconsequential. This research suggests that creating this kind of public place would be better than merely creating a women-only public place itself in order to empower women to form a modern sociability.

This research examines consumers' ability to acquire information from a simulated OTC medication bottle. Twelve otherwise identical OTC drug bottles were compared that had back labels which varied in (a) print size, (b) amount of white space between text, and (c) label design (standard vs. extended/pull-out). A no back label condition served as a control. Seniors (mean age = 78 years, SD = 7.4) and undergraduate students were given one of the 12 bottles and asked to perform one of two information acquisition tasks: (a) they examined the bottle for 3 minutes and then completed a questionnaire with the bottle was absent or (b) they answered the same questionnaire while the bottle was present. The undergraduates' performance in both information acquisition tasks was significantly better than the seniors for all label conditions except the control condition where both groups' low performance did not differ. Seniors' performance was significantly better in the medium and large print conditions than in the small print. Seniors' performance in the small print conditions did not differ from the control condition. Undergraduates showed no performance differences among the different small print conditions. No substantial effects of white space were found. For both participant groups, performance was better when the questionnaire was present compared to absent (i.e., recall from memory). While undergraduates' knowledge acquisition was unaffected by print size, the seniors performance was aided by the extended/pull-out label which allowed the use of medium and large print. Given that seniors comprise a large and increasing proportion of the population and they use more OTC medications compared to other age groups, extended label designs allowing larger print should be used.
