Seven genotypes of broad leaf mustard were evaluated for their performance at research field of Khumaltar, Lalitpur, Nepal in winter season of consecutive three years; 2016, 2017 and 2018. The main objective of these studies was to find out the most promising genotypes of broad leaf mustard. The experiments were conducted in randomized complete block design with three replications. Three weeks old seedlings were transplanted on first week of October at the spacing of 45 cm x 30 cm. Fertilizer was applied at the rate of 200:150:100 NPK kg/ha and 15ton compost per hectare and other cultural practices was carried out as per recommendation of National Horticulture Research Centre, Khumaltar, Lalitpur, Nepal. Fresh consumable fully developed green leaves were harvested frequently; seven to ten days interval. In the present study, wide genetic variability was observed on plant vigor, insect, disease, leaf length (cm), leaf width (cm), leaf harvest yield in number and weight, and consumer’s response recorded. On the basis of overall characteristics, among the evaluated genotypes; HRDBLM010 showed superior performance with good uniformity, vigorous growth, moderately resistant with insects pest and disease (2.1), bigger leaf size (44.2 x 27.5 cm), least petiole length (0.93 cm), significantly higher leaf yield in number (25) and weight (748 g/plant and 51.24 t/ha), medium late bolting, good taste has been selected for cultivation at central mid-hills (Kathmandu valley) condition of Nepal. The next promising genotype is HRDBLM004 which had also good uniformity, vigorous, less damage by insect (2.4) and disease (2.5), higher yield in number (41) and weight (848 g/plant and 60.10 t/ha) and softness. These two genotypes have been found promising genotypes for cultivation in central mid-hills of Nepal.

The experiment was conducted in agriculture farm of Girija Prasad Koirala College of Agriculture and Research Centre Gothagaun, Morang to know the morphological and yield attributing character, disease severity and organoleptic test of Broad leaf Mustard. Four Variety of broad leaf mustard namely Khumal Chaudapat, Marpha Chaudapat, Manakamana and Mustard 101 with five replication was laid out in Randomized complete block design (RCBD) from October, 2020 to January, 2021. The length of leaf was superior in Kumal chaudapat (29.01 cm) as compare to other variety. The yield performance of Khumal chaudapat was better (27.10mtha-1) followed by Marpha Chaudapat (24.50mtha-1) and Manakamana (23.90mtha-1). Lowest disease severity was recorded in Mustard 101 (26.7%), and highest disease severity in Marpha Chaudapat (37.85%).  Overall, organoleptic test was good in Marpha Chaudapat.

The experiment was conducted at the BINA sub-station, Rahmatpur, Barishal, during the period from April 2020 to August 2020 to investigate the effect of nitrogen on the yield of transplant Aus rice cv. Binadhan-19. The experiment comprised four levels of nitrogen viz (a) N0 (zero nitrogen), (b) N1 (90 kg N/ha), (c) N2 (110 kg N/ha) and (d) N3 (130 kg N/ha). Nitrogen fertilizer was applied at two splits. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Results revealed that plant height, effective tiller, non-effective tiller, flag leaf length, filled gran, unfilled grain and 1000 grain weight were increased with increasing nitrogen doses till 110 kg N ha-1. Furthermore, the highest grain weight was recorded in 110 kg N ha-1 due to superior performance of yield contributing characters of BInadhan-19. A positive correlation was found between grain yield and total dry matter production. The experimental results concluded that 110 kg N ha-1 would be the best dose for higher gain yield in Binadhan-19 in aus season.

The present experiment was carried out at Agricultural Research field, Noakahali Science and Technology University, Noakhali, Bangladesh during the period from September 2018 to February 2019 to find out the effects of Vermicompost and Farmyard manure growth and yield of Broccoli. The single factor experiment was carried out by Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Three treatments viz., T0= Control, T1= Vermicompost and T2= Farm Yard Manure as well as Centeuro variety were used. Data were recorded from different stages of plant growth on plant height at different days after transplanting, number of leaves/plant, leaf length, leaf diameter, plant spread, 50% curd initiation days, 50% curd maturation days, curd diameter, Marketable curd weight, Net curd weight and Yield/plot. All the recorded parameters were statistically significant among the treatments. The tallest plant (43.67cm) can be recorded from T1 (vermicompost) whereas lower plant height (38.10cm) was notified from control (T0). The maximum number of leaves (16.03) recorded from vermicompost treated plant where minimum from control (T0; 13.28). Highest leaf length (40.67cm), leaf diameter (16.22cm), plant spread (47.91cmü), early curd initiation (73.22 days), early curd maturation (89.72 days), curd diameter (16.16cm), marketable curd weight (452.67g), net curd weight (361.43g) and yield/plot (3.94kg) was found from vermicompost treated plant is compared with Farmyard manure whereas lowest data recorded from control. Observing the results it can be stated that using of vermicompost treated plants gave better growth and yield contributing characters of Broccoli in contemporary with other treatments.

A field experiment was carried out at the research field of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Gazipur, during rabi (winter) season of 2016-17 to evaluate the effects of fertilizer treatments on black cumin (BARI Kalozira-1). The field belongs to Shallow red-brown terrace soil of Salna series under AEZ-28 (Madhupur Tract). The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Results showed that the application of nutrient elements had positive effect on plant height, branches per plant, capsule setting, umbels per plant, capsules per plant, capsule size, seeds per capsule, 1000-seed weight and seed yield of black cumin. The highest seed yield (1277 kg ha-1) was obtained from 75% RDCF + 25% cowdung-N treatment followed by 100% RDCF (N80P45K50S20Zn5B2 kg ha-1) and the lowest seed yield (420 kg ha-1) was recorded with 50% RDCF. Thus, the IPNS treatment 75% RDCF + 25% cowdung-N appeared to be the best suitable package for black cumin cultivation in this location.Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 43(2): 205-210, June 2018

<p>ABSTRACT</p><p>Center for Tropical Horticulture Studies (CTHS) have conducted  melon breeding to meet the need of the expanding melon production  in Indonesia. Four melon genotypes of  IPB Meta 3, IPB Meta 4, IPB Meta 6, IPB Meta 8H exhibit superior performance during selection. Prior to release or to register, these melon genotypes need to be evaluated for their main characteristics. Four potential genotypes  along  with  two  control  varieties  of  Action  434  and Sky  Sweet  were  evaluated  under  a single  factor  Randomized  Complete Block  Design  (RCBD)  with  four  replications.  The  results revelaed  that CTHS  melon  genotypes  exhibited  good  performance.  IPB  Meta  4  has larger  stem diameter and leaf size compared  to  Action 434 and Sky Sweet, subsequently  flesh color  of IPB Meta 3,  IPB  Meta  6,  and  IPB  Meta  8H  are oranges, where  as  both  control  varieties  are  green.  Theseresults indicated that melon genotypes  developed in CTHS have unique characteristics, which could be developed for speciality market.</p><p>Keywords: fruit quality, melon, morphological characteristics</p><p> </p><p>ABSTRAK</p><p>Pusat  Kajian  Hortikultura  Tropika  (PKHT)  telah  melakukan  penelitian pemuliaan  tanaman untuk  mengetahui  kebutuhan  pengembangan  produksi melon  di  Indonesia.  Empat  genotipe  melon yakni  IPB  Meta  3,  IPB  Meta 4, IPB Meta 6, IPB  Meta  8H  menunjukkan  penampilan  baik  pada percobaan sebelumnya. Sebelum  dilepas  atau  didaftarkan,  diperlukan  evaluasi karakteristik  utama dari empat genotipe tersebut. Pengujian keempat genotipe potensial dengan dua varietas pembanding yakni  Action  434  dan  Sky  Sweet disusun  berdasarkan  Rancangan  Kelompok  Lengkap  Teracak (RKLT)  dengan 4  ulangan.  Hasilnya  menunjukkan  bahwa  genotipe  melon  IPB  Meta  4 memiliki diameter batang  dan ukuran daun yang lebih besar dibandingkan Action 434 dan  Sky Sweet. Selain itu,  daging  buah  melon  genotipe  IPB Meta  3,  IPB  Meta  6,  dan  IPB  Meta  8H  berwarna  jingga, dimana kedua varietas pembanding berwarna hijau. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa genotipe-genotipe melon yang dikembangkan di PKHT memiliki karakteristik yang unik, dimana dapat berpotensi bagi segmen pasar khusus.</p><p>Kata kunci: karakteristik morfologi, kualitas buah, melon</p>

The present investigation was undertaken with the objective of DUS characterisation of advanced recombinant lines of Kalanamak rice for 47 visually assessed characters and 15 quantitative characters. Trials were conducted for two seasons during Kharif 2016 and 2017 at Norman E. Borlaug Crop Research Centre (NEBCRC), G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, Uttarakhand in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) in three replications with the spacing of 20 cm × 15 cm and the recommended cultural practices were followed. For this data were recorded for sixty-two DUS descriptors following the guidelines of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) and the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmer’s Rights Authority (PPV & FRA). In the present study, 27 visually assessed characteristics are found to be monomorphic, 18 are dimorphic and 2 are polymorphic. KARL10 with higher yield, intermediate amylose content, early 50% flowering and early maturity is reported to be best genotypes in respect of desired characteristics and could be used as a potential source for deriving improved lines through selection.

The extent of genetic diversity in the crop plants is of prime concern to plant breeders and germplasm curators. Therefore, a study was employed to determine the genetic diversity and to evaluate the performance of eight genotypes of isabgol (Plantago ovata Forsk.) through analysis of morpho-physiological and yield attributing characteristics. All the germplasm was collected from different areas of Bangladesh. The experiments were conducted at the research field of Regional Spices Research Centre, Magura during the rabi season, 2019-20 to characterize phenotypically and to evaluate the performance of different isabgol germplasm. The experiments were laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. The highest plant height (42.33 cm), number of tillers per plant (7.33), number of leaves per plant (74), length of leaf (30.00 cm), number of spikes per plant (29.0), length of spike (4.03 cm), 1000 seeds weight (2.0 g)  and seed yield (823 kg ha-1) of isabgol was found from the germplasm PO-001 and the lowest  plant height (39.67 cm), number of tillers per plant (6.33), number of leaves per plant (69.33), length of leaf (26.33 cm), number of spikes per plant (23.0), length of spike (3.67 cm), 1000 seeds weight (1.87 g) and seed yield (705 kg ha-1) of isabgol was found from the germplasm PO-007. On the basis of this field trail in terms of seed yield and other important agronomic characteristics the genotypes PO-001 can be chosen for future breeding material to release a commercial variety in Bangladesh climatic conditions.

Strawberry (Fragaria X annanassa Duch.) is highly exhaustive and responsive to chemical fertilizers. An experiment on strawberry was conducted in fruits research field of Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur over three consecutive years, 2009-2010, 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 to find out the suitable combination of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and sulphur (S) for yield maximization of strawberry. Fourteen treatment combinations were tested in this trial comprising four levels each of N (0, 90, 115 and 140 kg ha-1), P (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha-1), K (0, 85, 110 and 135 kg ha-1) and S (0, 15, 25 and 35 kg ha-1) with blanket dose of 4 kg Zn ha-1, 2 kg B ha-1 and 10 t cowdung ha-1. The experiment was set up in randomized completely block design with three replications. Results showed that treatment combination N115P40K110S25 (underscript represent kg ha-1) produced higher strawberry fruit yield (9.59 t ha-1) followed by N90P40K110S25 kg ha-1 and N140P40K110S25 kg ha-1 treatment combinations. The lowest fruit yield (6.05 t ha-1) was found in control (N0P0K0S0) treatment. Therefore, the combination of N115P40K110S25 kg ha-1 may be considered as suitable dose for strawberry cultivation in terrace soils of Bangladesh.Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 43(1): 89-97, March 2018

An experiment was conducted at the research field of Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur during Rabi season of 2012-13 to 2014-15 to evaluate the response of different doses of N, P and K on the yield and yield attributes of chrysanthemum (var. BARI Chrysanthemum-1) and to find out the optimum and economic doses of NPK for maximizing yield of chrysanthemum. Treatments comprising four levels each of N (0, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha-1), P (0, 50, 75 and 100 kg ha-1) and K (0, 90, 135 and 180 kg ha-1) along with blanket dose of 2 kg B and 4 kg Zn ha-1 were used. The treatments were assigned in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The combined effect of NPK significantly increased yield and yield attributes of chrysanthemum for each of the yearly experiments as well as the average of three years results. Significantly, the highest flower yield (12.45, 11.47 and 11.96 t/ha) was obtained with the application of N150P75K135 kg ha-1 (T3) along with blanket dose of 2 kg B and 4 kg Zn ha-1 for the years of 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15, respectively and it was statistically identical with T4 (N200P75K135 kg ha-1) treatment. Application of 150 kg N, 75 kg P and 135 kg K increased yield by 52.76, 42.29 and 36.51%, 152.08, 126.23 and 99.13% and 88.35, 51.30 and 60.75%, respectively, over their control in respect to the years. The highest benefit-cost ratio 5.54 followed by 5.14 was obtained from T3 (N150P75K135 kg ha-1) followed by T4 treatment, respectively. From the quadratic regression equation averaging three years data the optimum and economic doses 155 and 151.8 kg N, 79.3 and 77.68 kg P and 118.75 and 115.7 kg K, respectively were found which could be recommended for chrysanthemum production in Grey Terrace Soil of Joydebpur under AEZ 28.The Agriculturists 2017; 15(1) 58-67

Population dynamics of lentil aphid Aphis craccivora (Hemiptera: Aphididae) was assessed in relation with climatic parameters at the research field of National Maize Research Program (NMRP), Rampur, Chitwan during winter season of two consecutive years 2016 to 2018. The experiment was organized in randomized complete block design consisting 20 lentil varieties with three replications. The crop was sown during last week of November in both the years. The daily meteorological parameters like maximum temperature (Tmax), minimum temperature (Tmin), relative humidity (RH) and rainfall (Rf) were recorded at the meteorological station located in NMRP, Rampur, Chitwan and then converted into weekly basis as the standard meteorological week (SMW) with correspondence to weekly population of aphid. The incidence of aphid was started from 2nd SMW of January (2 aphid/plant/10 cm apical twigs) during both experimentation years. Initially the population was low and gradually increased and reached to its peak (49 aphid/plant/10cm apical twigs) on 9th SMW i.e. first week of March with correspondence to weather parameters viz. maximum and minimum temperature (°C), relative humidity (%) and rainfall (mm) were 30.80, 15.34, 67.72 and 0, respectively over the years. The aphid population had significant positive correlation with Tmax (r= 0.94) while the Tmin showed highly significant correlation (r=0.99). The relative humidity (RH) had non significant negative correlation (r= -0.90) and rainfall (Rf) showed non significant negative impact (r= - 0.15) with aphid population. The regression model developed could explain 99% variation in aphid population in different cultivars of lentil. SAARC J. Agri., 17(2): 155-164 (2019)
