Introductions: Injection medication is one of the major responsibilities of a nurse. The principles and techniques of intramuscular (IM) injections are associated with safe nursing practice. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire for knowledge and observational checklist for procedure was used to assess the level of knowledge and practice of IM injection of nurses at Patan Hospital, Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS), Nepal, during August 12 to September 07, 2018. Ethical approval was taken from Institutional Review Committee of PAHS. SPSS 16 was used for statistical analysis. Results: Out of total 78 nurses included, 5 (6.4%) had adequate knowledge, 59 (75.6%) moderate, 14 (17.9%) inadequate knowledge regarding IM injection. Similarly, out of 26 nurses observed for IM injection practices, 10 (38.5%) had good practice, 16 (61.5%) fair, and none had poor practice regarding IM injection. There was significant association of knowledge and practice of IM injection (p=0.03). Conclusions: The study shows three fourth nurses have moderately adequate level of knowledge of IM injection and more than half of them have fair practice.

Diabetic foot is one of the most common and distressing complication of diabetes resulting to major physical limitation, psychological and fiscal significances for the patient and their families. Great information and skill on regards to diabetic foot care will lessen the danger of diabetic foot difficulties and that will diminish the odds of removal of the limb. A descriptive study was adopted for assessing the level of knowledge and practice of Foot care among diabetic clients. A total of100 diabetic clients were selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were gathered utilizing self-structured questionnaire by a structured interview method. The outcomes portray that majority of the diabetic clients, 61% had inadequate knowledge, 28% had moderate knowledge and only 11% of the diabetic clients had average knowledge. The examination also uncovers that 23% of the diabetic clients had good practice and 77% had poor practice. The mean knowledge and practice score were 5.82 ± 2.53& 6.97±1.18 respectively. There is the strong connection (r= 0.698, p=0.0001) between Knowledge and Practice. There is statistically significant association of demographic variables noted with the knowledge and practice of foot care between age, Gender, Educational Status, Occupation, Duration of Diabetes, Current Diabetes Treatment, Presence of Co morbid (P values<0.001).

Background: The practice of hand washing is a simple effective way to prevent infection cleaning of the hands can prevent the spread of germs and micro organisms. Hand hygiene is recognized as a leading measure to prevent cross –transmission of microorganism. Infection due to microbes is a evolving problem in worldwide and horizontal transmission of bacterial organisms to cause a high mortality rate increased. Hand washing with soap and water can prevent a significant proportion of childhood diarrhoea and respiratory infections, the two main global causes of child mortality.  Objectives: The objectives were to assess the existing level of knowledge and practice of school going children on hand washing, to find out the correlation between level of knowledge and practice on hand washing among school going children and to find out the association between level of knowledge and practices of school going children on hand washing with their selected demographic variables. Methods: A quantitative evaluative approach with descriptive research design was adopted. 50 school going children were selected by the purposive sampling technique. Results:  The collected data was tabulated and analyzed. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. In the level of knowledge majority of the school going children (52%) had inadequate knowledge, 28% of them were had moderately adequate knowledge and only 20% of them had adequate knowledge. The mean knowledge score on hand washing was 10.4 and the standard deviation was 4.31. The mean practice score on hand washing was 21.52 and the standard deviation was 7.4. Conclusion: The study results shows that most of the school children were having inadequate knowledge and less desirable practices of hand washing. A structured teaching program on hand washing is very important for incorporating the knowledge among school children.

Background: Infection prevention is a crucial component to provide quality care in any health care setting. Infections are leading cause of death and preventable illness. This study was conducted to find out the knowledge and practice among nurses regarding infectionprevention.Methods: A descriptive study design was adopted for the study. Total 170 nurses were included by usingcensus technique to assess knowledge on infection prevention.Probability systematic sampling technique was used by selecting every odd number from staffs’ list to observe the practice of 85 nurses..Semi-structured self-administered questionnaire and observation checklist was used for data collection.Results: The study showed that 57.1% of respondents had adequate knowledge and only 48.2% had good practice on infection preventionthrough hand hygiene, use of adequate personal protective equipment, decontamination, cleaning of instruments, sterilization, and use of antiseptics, disposal of sharps and waste disposal. Similarly 88.8% of the respondents had not received any training related to infection prevention.Conclusions: This study reveals that respondents had better knowledge than practice on infection prevention. The study suggestthat need for organizing regular training, monitoring, development and implementation of guideline to improve knowledge and practice of nurses for prevention of infection in the hospital.

BACKGROUND HIV infection is one of the most leading infections in the world. According to WHO HIV constitutes to be a major global public health issue, having claimed almost 33 million so far. There were an estimation of 38.0 million people living with the HIV at the end of 2019. As a result of concerted international efforts to respond to HIV , coverage of services has been steadily increasing. In 2019, 68% of adults and 53% of children living with HIV globally were receiving lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART). There is no cure of HIV infections , however effective antiretroviral drugs can the control of virus and help onward transmission to other people. The knowledge regarding HIV infections in the public is a not much. The study focuses on the effectiveness of self instructional module on knowledge regarding the HIV among the drivers in Kancheepuram, Chennai. The objectives of the study was to assess the pre and post test of the self instructional module. For the study 60 samples were adopted by purposive sampling technique. The pre test was conducted by giving the structured questionnare then the module was given and then the post assessment was conducted. The study was conducted for 1 week. In the pre assessment 52(86.7%) were having inadequate knowledge and 8(13.3%) had moderately inadequate knowledge. In the post test 50(83.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 10(16.67%) has adequate knowledge. The effectivess of self instructional module was calculated by the paired t test (t=12.880) was found to be statistically highly significant at p<0.001 OBJECTIVE To assess the pre test level of existing knowledge on HIV among drivers. (2)To determine the effectiveness of self instructional module on HIV among drivers. (3)To find the association between the level of knowledge with their selected demographic variables METHODS Quantative research approach and pre experimental one group pre test post test design was used to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module on HIV to drivers. After obtaining permission from Saveetha College Of Nursing , the investigator selected 60 drivers by using purposive sampling technique. The sample who met the inclusion criteria were selected by purposive sampling technique . The investigator introduced and explained the purpose of the study to the samples and obtain the written confirmed. The purpose of the study were explained to the drivers. Section A: It consist of the demographic variables which include Age, sex, education. Occupation, monthly income, religion, marital status, type of family and dietary pattern.Section B- It consist 25 multiple choice questions to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module. RESULTS The drivers most of them 26(43.3%) were in the age group of 41 – 50 years, all 60(100%) were male, 45(75%) were private employee, 21(35%) had monthly income of 9000 – 11000 and above 11000 respectively, 45(75%) were married, 32(53.3%) belonged to nuclear family 45(75%) were non-vegetarian. Section B : Assess the pretest level of existing knowledge on HIV among drivers. The finding of the pretest 52(86.67%) had inadequate knowledge and 8(13.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge. Whereas in the post test, 50(83.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 10( 16.67%) had adequate knowledge on HIV among drivers CONCLUSIONS The findings revealed that the existing level of knowledge on HIV among drivers was improve the knowledge about HIV to be effective awareness by administered self instructional module

Background: Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication and by restricted and repetitive behavior. Mothers of toddlers should have knowledge on Autism to identify the child in earlier age and to treat the child. Objectives: The study aimed to assess the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers of toddlers. The objectives were to find out the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers and to find out the association between the level of knowledge on autism and selected demographic variables of the mothers of toddlers. Materials and Methods: A non-experimental, descriptive study was conducted. The sampling technique was snow ball sampling technique with the sample of 50 mothers of toddlers and questionnaires were formulated, a structured interview schedule was used to assess the level of knowledge on autism among the mothers of toddlers. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the collected data. The data collection procedure was done for period of 2 weeks. The study was initiated after obtaining prior permission from the concern authorities. Results: The findings of this study revealed that 44% of the mothers of toddlers had inadequate knowledge, 44% had moderately adequate knowledge and only 2% had adequate knowledge on autism. There was significant association between level of knowledge and demographic variables such as age, occupation and previous knowledge on Autism of mothers of toddlers.

Back ground: An experimental study was conducted to assess the effects of instructional teaching programme (ITP) on knowledge and practices of mothers regarding prevention of pneumonia in children, Pooncherry, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu, India.Objectives of the study were to assess the effectiveness of ITP on prevention of pneumonia on level of knowledge and practices among mothers of under five children. Materials and Methods: Non probability purposive technique was adopted for this study. Samples who met inclusion criteria were participated in the study. Self-structured interview schedule for knowledge  and structured rating scale for practices were used to collect the data. Results: The study results shows that in the pre test 15.13 % of the mothers had adequate knowledge, 24.34 % of the mothers were had moderately adequate knowledge and 60.53 % of the mothers had inadequate knowledge and  and in post test 63.17% of mothers were had adequate knowledge, 28.94% of the mothers had moderately adequate knowledge and very few (8.55% ) mothers had inadequate knowledge. Pre test practices score shows that 63.82 % of the mothers had less desirable practice, 22.37% of the mothers had moderate desirable practices and 13.81% were had highly desirable practices whereas in the post test 63.82% of them had highly desirable practice, 23.03% of them had moderate desirable practices and 13.16% of them had less desirable practices. The mean pretest knowledge score was 5.45 ± 1.47 and the mean posttest knowledge score was 8.49 ± 0.71 and the t value was 15.17, it shows that statistically there was an improvement in the post test knowledge score. The mean pretest practice score was 22.38 ± 2.76, the mean posttest practice score was 43.64 ±1.97 and the t value was 13.35, it shows that statistically there was a significant improvement in the post test practice score. The instructional teaching programme on prevention of pneumonia was statistically effective in promoting the knowledge and desirable practices among mothers.

Background: Surgical asepsis refers to destruction of organisms before they enter the body, it is used in caring for open wounds and in surgical procedure. Surgical asepsis is the medical practice of maintaining sterility whenever dressing wound or performing any kind of surgery to prevent cross infection. Aseptic technique are used in infection control to prevent cross infection between health care worker and between patients. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the level of knowledge and practice of staff nurses regarding surgical asepsis. Objectives: 1. To assess the practice regarding surgical asepsis. 2. To find an association between practice with socio demographic variables. Methodology: 100 staff nurses working in NMCH, Nellore were selected by using convenience sampling method. Results: Regarding the level of practice among staff nurses, 10(10%) of them had good practice 80(80%) of them had moderate practice and 10(10%) had poor practice.

Introduction: Oxytocin is commonly used for induction of labor. The objective of the study was to assess the knowledge and practice regarding oxytocin administration during the first stage of labor in maternity ward. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among nurses of maternity ward of Patan Hospital, Nepal. Data was collected by using self-administered structured questionnaire for the knowledge assessment. Observation checklist was used to record the practice. Descriptive and inferential data analysis was done by SPSS version 16.The association and correlation between variables were measured by chi-square and Pearson correlation coefficient respectively. Result: Out of 31 nurse participants, majority (87.1%) had good knowledge and showed moderately good practice (in 70%) regarding oxytocin administration.  The correlation between knowledge and practice on use of oxytocin among the staff nurses had positive relationship(r=0.051). Conclusion: Majority of nurses had good level of knowledge and moderate level of practice on use of oxytocin.

Background: Diarrhoea is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among under-five children. Correct knowledge regarding oral rehydration therapy (ORT) helps prevent morbidity and mortality due to diarrhoea. Our objective was to assess the awareness, knowledge and practice of mothers of under-five children regarding ORT and home management of diarrhoea and effectiveness of pamphlets regarding knowledge and practices of oral rehydration therapy.Methods: A pre-experimental (one group pre-test & post-test) quantitative study conducted at King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, U.P. Subjects selected by purposive sampling technique and pre-test and post test conducted after explain nature of study and distribution of pamphlets containing information about diarrhoea and ORS.Results: Pre-test knowledge score of subjects regarding diarrhoea and oral rehydration showed that 64 percent of mothers having moderately adequate knowledge and 36 percent were having inadequate knowledge. Post-test knowledge score showed Significant improvements, 72.72 percent of subjects having adequate knowledge and 27.27 percent of subjects having moderately adequate knowledge and results were highly significant. Pre-test score of mothers regarding practice of oral rehydration therapy showed that majority (45.45%) of subjects having inadequate knowledge, 41.81% of subjects having moderately adequate knowledge and only 12.72% of mothers having adequate knowledge. Post-test score ct showed significant improvement in their practice regarding diarrhoea and ORS.Conclusion: Mothers were having moderately adequate knowledge about diarrhoea and dehydration. Although most of them could prepare commercially available packets of the O.R.S, but they could not prepare the O.R.S at home. Teaching of mothers about signs of dehydration and preparing and using O.R.S can help to reduce the mortality and morbidity of under five children.

Background: A nurse is a healthcare professional who is responsible for the treatment, safety, recovery, and the overall care of a patient. Nurses advocate for health promotion, educate patients and the public on the prevention of illness and injury, provide care and assist in cure, participate in rehabilitation, and provide support. No other health care professional has such a broad and far-reaching role. Aim: The study was aimed to assess the level of knowledge and practice regarding renewal of license among staff nurses. Methodology: Non-experimental descriptive research design and non-probability convenient sampling technique was used to select 50 staff nurses. The assessment of the level of knowledge and practice among staff nurses was carried out by self-structured questionnaire and practice checklist. Result: Assessment of level of knowledge as well as practice regarding renewal of nursing license revealed that 9 (18%) of staff nurses had good knowledge, 39 (78%) moderate knowledge and 2(4%) poor knowledge, whereas 17 (34%) good practice, 32 (64%) poor practice and 1 (2%) didn’t perform renewal of license. It was concluded knowledge regarding nursing license has a significant association with checking of license status at p<0.05 level.On other hand, practice regarding nursing license had no significant association with demographic variables at p<0.05 level. Conclusion: It is inevitable to gain nursing license and do its renewal, as it will monitor minimum competencies and provides assurance to the public that predetermined standards have been met.
