The study obtained objective data on the positive influence of the use of boxing and fencing elements on the strength qualities development of young men of senior school age as a means of physical education. The factors that affect the manifestation of strength and speed qualities of young men are determined, the correlation between their indicators in general and special preparatory exercises is revealed. A positive transfer of physical qualities among young men was established when performing special preparatory exercises to general preparatory exercises.

To produce weight responses to the word “screw-driver” in an Unusual Uses Test, the test was preceded by a test asking for uses of an electric iron. For the two groups, a high school age group, and a college summer school group, no evidence of positive transfer appeared.

The presented article discusses the history of physical education and sport in local YMCA union in Bratislava during interwar period. The YMCA contributed the popularization of sports, especially basketball and volleyball. Besides them for example table tennis, track and field, heavy athletics or rugby were also popular among its members. Education of swimming and lifesaving was also part of the YMCA activity. This was the way they tried to prevent the every-year accidents on the Danube River. Its activity in the field of physical education and sport increased after finishing of outbuilding of the YMCA center in 1927. In this outbuilding gym, which was used by members to practice especially during winter season, was placed. Winter trainings had positive influence on improvement of player’s skills especially in basketball and volleyball. Sportsman of the YMCA in Bratislava had never become the republic champions though. In the second half of 1930s the physical education and sport in the YMCA in Bratislava started to be less important. After the split of Czechoslovakia in 1938 the Czechoslovakian YMCA was split as well. After that the YMCA in the Slovakia was prohibited. When the WWII ended, the YMCA in Czechoslovakia was restored, nevertheless in the Slovakia it worked separately.

Background. The paper strives to answer the question what is optimism expression for middle school age students in physical education classes. The following hypothesis was tested: optimism expression of boys would be higher than those of girls. The aim of our study was to examine the optimism expression for middle school age students in physical education classes. Methods. The independent random sample consisted of 214 students of middle school age (108 girls and 106 boys). According to the attendance of physical education classes respondents by were divided into two groups: those who did not attend physical education classes for one month or more were assigned to the group of students not attending physical education classes, and others – the group of students attending physical education classes. The measure of optimism expression was evaluated using Dember’s Optimism/Pessimism Scale. Results. The hypothesis that optimism expression of boys would be higher than that of girls was confirmed. The comparison of optimism expression between boys and girls revealed that optimism expression for boys of middle school age was higher (p < .05) than that of girls. The comparison of optimism expression among students attending and not attending physical education classes revealed that middle school age students (boys, girls) attending physical education classes were more optimistic (p < .05). Conclusions. It was found that the optimism of middle school age boys was higher in physical education classes comparing them to girls of the same age, and middle school age students (boys and girls) who attended physical education classes were more optimistic.

There is a lack of research examining the social experiences of students with and without disabilities in regular physical education classes. Little is known, from the perspective of the student, about factors that affect his or her social experience while taking part in integrated physical education. This investigation examined the factors that have a positive and a negative effect on the social experiences of 12 elementary students who were thriving, struggling, or had disabilities in an integrated kindergarten and an integrated fourth-grade physical education class. This study utilized qualitative data collection methods that included observations and interviews with students and staff. Four factors were identified: (a) physical education teachers, (b) social substance of activities, (c) cultures, and (d) social skills of students. The physical education teacher factor was the only one found to have a positive influence on the social experiences of all students, whereas the other three factors differentially affected the social experiences among the 12 students.

Participating in outdoor sports in blue spaces is recognized to produce a range of significant social benefits. This case study empirically analyzes the social benefits associated with the School Nautical Activities project carried out in Viana do Castelo (Portugal) in school-age children and adolescents. It consisted of a 4 year program in which scholars took part in nautical activities (surfing, rowing, sailing, and canoeing) in blue spaces once a week during a semester as a part of their physical education course. The methods used for data collection were as follows: (1) a survey answered by 595 participants in the program and (2) five focus groups (FG): two FGs with participants (seven on each FG), two FGs with their parents (eight participants each), and one FG with the physical education teachers (five participants). Interviews were transcribed and qualitative analysis with NVivo software was developed. Results revealed clear evidence on the social benefits for school-age children and adolescents associated with participation in outdoor activities in blue spaces both in the overall health and in all the following analyzed categories: mental health and well-being, education, active citizenship, social behavior, and environmental awareness. More than 40% state that their overall health is much better now (13.4%) or somewhat better now (29.9%) due to their participation in the program. Thus, this article provides support for the anecdotal recognition of the benefits for school-age children and adolescents from participating in sports in the outdoors and especially in blue spaces.

In the article, the positive influence of done outside of class hours activities on the process of adapting children of primary school age to study as a new type of activity is considered on the example of the experience of Kaluga and Kaluga region schools. The description of the author’s program of done outside of class hours activities of the social and pedagogical orientation “My New World” is given, which can be widely used in regional educational practice when organizing done outside of class hours classes with younger schoolchildren.

 Introduction.Motivation of pupils is the principal aspect in successful physical education. One of the main objectives of a physical-education teacher is to create in pupils a strong desire to consciously and voluntarily carry out regular physical exercises and develop the potential to work independently.Theaimof the research was to show the influence of various approaches to the organization of sports activities on motivation leading to physical activity in young men aged 16–18.Methodology and research methods. The methodological base of the research involved a personally-oriented educational concept combining differentiated and kinesiological approaches to physical education. The research was carried out in phases using annual and longitudinal tests to evaluate students’ knowledge and skills. Levels of general intelligence were estimated using the I-S-T 2000R test as adapted by L. A. Yasyukova. Formal-dynamic characteristics of individuality were studied using the method developed by V. M. Rusalov. In order to evaluate motivation for the realization of motor activity, a specially-designed questionnaire was used. IBM SPSS Statistics 22 and Microsoft Excel software programs were employed for statistical processing of primary experimental material.Results and scientific novelty.A comparative analysis of the personal characteristics of senior school students and 1st year students (177 people) identified heterochronism in the development of standard motive and mental abilities of young people. It was observed that a lack of synchronism in the formation of separate functional systems in an organism causes a different attitude of school students to physical exercises implemented through an integrated program and standard approach without taking into account individual characteristics of young men. As compared with their peers, motivation to sport activities is initially higher among pupils with higher motor function. A formative level of general intelligence is lower due to students’ potential success when performing a wide complex of activities required by the physical culture curriculum. However, allowing free choice in sport specialization significantly increases the motivation of young people who are physically weaker but who are more intellectually developed than their peers.Practical significance. The research outcomes serve as scientific justification for the more extensive introduction of sports-oriented approach into educational institutions when organizing physical education. A sports-oriented approach is focused on preferences and interests of each student. The approach provides a free choice of the most attractive kinds of activity which gives a feeling of satisfaction and self-confidence, and consequently, enhances motivation to physical selfimprovement through visiting fitness centres and gyms which, in turn, will ensure good health in the future.
