The article analyzes the social and psychological factors of psychological well-being of the individual. The results of psychological well-being between homosexuals and heterosexuals were examined and compared. The complexity of studying the phenomenon of psychological well-being is due to the fact that the mechanism of its formation is in the social environment and in the inner world of man. An attempt is made to reveal their essence on the basis of researches in world and national science. The components that provide positive personality functioning are analyzed and investigated: autonomy, environmental management, personal growth, positive relationships with others, presence of life goals and self-acceptance. Psychological well-being of the individual is considered as an integral indicator of the degree of realization of the personality of one's own orientation, which is subjectively manifested in feelings of happiness, satisfaction with life and oneself. It is concluded that this phenomenon touches on all aspects of people's lives, both homo- and hetero-orientations, and therefore, a person with any sexual orientation is capable of self-actualization, self-development, life satisfaction and the exercise of one's choice.

Abstract Background Psychological well-being (PWB) refers to inter- and intra-individual levels of positive functioning that include one’s relatedness with others and self-referent attitudes that include one’s sense of mastery and personal growth. PWB consists of hedonism and eudaimonia building on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Sociotherapy is a community-based health intervention that contributes to the promotion of PWB worldwide. Starting from an analysis of trauma transmitted from the perpetrators and survivors of the Rwandan genocide to their descendants, this article is aimed at exploring the contribution of therapeutic sessions to PWB among youth. Method A qualitative study design based on shared testimonies was carried out. Field reports from the sociotherapists, written texts, and testimonies of changes presented in the conviviality meetings were analyzed using transactional analysis. We included 24 reflexive texts upon completion of 8 months of the therapeutic program. Results Results indicated that before sociotherapy sessions, youth born to genocide survivors and perpetrators had psychosocial distress, including low self-esteem, hopelessness, anxiety, stigma, thoughts of revenge, shame, depression, and antisocial behaviors. Sociotherapy significantly contributed to the reduction of these psychosocial problems. Participating youth reported feeling safe, trusted, respected, and healthier than before the sociotherapy. This intervention created inner healing, social cohesion, alleviated their sufferings of trauma, restored their families and contributed to community resilience. Results revealed that youth developed PWB, helping them to what appeared to be psychosocial problems as being potentially healthy, enhancing self-acceptance, and respecting humanity. Youth also became the vector for the reconciliation and reconstruction of their humanity. Conclusion Sociotherapy is a community health intervention that has an effective outcome on the personal well-being of of youth. This therapy impacted the individual, social, and familial resilience of youth who developed their capacity to regain and maintain health. The intervention restored their PWB, characterized by increased positive functioning specifically in the areas of autonomy, ecological mastery, individual growth, purpose in life, good relationships with others, and improved self-esteem.

The current study investigates the relevance of positive attitudes toward Internet technologies for psychological well-being and social well-being in old age. A sample of 245 elderly people ( Mean age = 70; SD =9.1) filled in the Psychological Well-Being Questionnaire, the Social Well-Being Questionnaire, and Attitudes Toward Technologies Questionnaire (ATTQ). Favorable attitudes toward Internet technologies showed positive correlations with overall social well-being and all its components with the exception of social acceptance. Positive correlations with overall psychological well-being and two of its components, namely, personal growth and purpose in life, were also found. Two hierarchical multiple regression models underscored that positive attitudes toward Internet technologies constitute the most important predictor of social well-being, and it appears to be a significant predictor for psychological well-being as well. Results are discussed and integrated into the Positive Technology theoretical framework that sustains the value of technological resources for improving the quality of personal experience and well-being.

In the study the problem of optimal personality functioning is regarded. The theoretical background of the OPF in different approaches shows that the existing a general understanding of OPF is too wide and more concrete approaches to it include different components regarding the views of the authors to the personality. The humanistic approach to the personality views OPF in terms of personal growth, self-actualization, autonomy, values and goals. The model of OPF, consisting of two domains, is proposed. These domains are C. Ryff`s model of psychological well-being and S. Maddi’s hardiness. Both constructs grew out of humanistic views on human nature and have theoretical and empirical background. Trust is regarded as an important predictor of OPF. Despite the existing personality development theories, which postulate that trust is the basic disposition for personality functioning and it influences its interactions with the world, we observe the lack of empirical studies devoted to trust as a well-being or OPF predictor. The empirical study of indexes of OPF (consisting of PWB and hardiness) and trust at the sample of students was provided. The data of correlation analysis, regression analysis and structural modelling empirically confirm the validity of model of OPF, including domains of PWB and Hardiness. We also provide the evidence of importance of general trust and self-trust for OPF.

In the article, the phenomena of “psychological well-being of the individual” is considered in the con-text of the cultural-historical theory of L.S. Vygotsky, in particular, the statement he developed on the “social situation of development”, which is based on the child’s experience of his environment and himself in this environment. Attention is drawn to the complexity and ambiguity of the very concept of “well-being” from the standpoint of the cultural development of the individual, to the motives and emotions that determine the emergence and nature of the feeling of satisfaction with oneself, one’s actions and one’s life. The assumption is discussed that psychological well-being can be understood as an indicator of the psychological health of a person, which is one of the most important states of a person and is associated with the moral development of a person. It is shown that the main condition for the “emergence” of a feeling of psychological well-being and its orientation lies in the interaction of the phenomena of “culture” and “education” and the deep mutual enrichment of the processes of training and education based on the integration of rational and emotional cognition of the world by a growing person at each stage of ontogenesis.

The paper addresses the issue of maintaining psychological well-being in individuals who have experienced critical events. The research presented in this paper was carried out within the paradigm of salutogenesis, according to which the most crucial factors in preserving one’s mental and physical health are the realization of the inner potential, cognitive and physical activity, orientation towards healthy life goals, and self-actualization, and not only the absence of illness and disabilities. The authors describe a procedure of methodological triangulation of quantitative and qualitative data that enabled them to outline the social psychological conditions necessary for the positive functioning of individuals who have experienced critical events.

The article considers the factors of military students’ psychological well-being. The examined military students had average levels for all scales of psychological well-being. They can be mainly characterized as independent people, not afraid to express their opinions contrary to the majority opinion, as open to communication and new experience mastering, capable to achieve the desired and overcome life difficulties. The indicators of psychological well-being of male and female military students were almost indistinguishable according to all studied scales, except for “self-acceptance”, “positive relations with others”, and “good relations with loved ones”. In particular, men, compared to women, had higher self-acceptance, which was manifested in a more positive assessment of themselves and their lives. Women had better relationships with their social environment and loved ones, expressing themselves in a more trusting, friendly relationship, openness to communication, compassion and empathy. The performed factor analysis revealed two structural components of the military students’ psychological well-being, namely: purposefulness/ independence (clarity and stability of the intended goal vector, striving for independence and self-dependence, responsibility and ability to make important decisions); approval by the social environment (subjective awareness of life satisfaction because of positive evaluation of existing social contacts and the approval and recognition of one’s image by his/her the social environment). The factors of psychological well-being of male and female military students were determined. In particular, there were for men: autonomy, environmental management, personal growth, purpose in life, short social distance, and subjective psychological well-being. There were for girls: positive relationships, autonomy, self-acceptance, social approval, positive attitude, subjective psychological well-being.

Despite a growing awareness that problematic usage of smartphones is becoming a significant public health issue, there is limited research on how problematic smartphone usage relates to the humanistic concepts of well-being, particularly those captured in Ryff's six psychological well-being dimensions: positive relations, autonomy, emotional mastery, personal growth, purpose in life, self-acceptance. The current study aimed to provide a comprehensive assessment of the relationship between general and problematic smartphone usage and subjective well-being and psychological well-being using long-form, theoretically grounded measures. Australian adults (n = 539, 79% female; age in years M = 25.1, SD = 7.8) completed Diener's Satisfaction with Life Scale, the PANAS, and Ryff's 84-item measure of psychological well-being. Results showed that problematic smartphone usage was correlated with lower well-being on almost all scales. In particular, negative affect, autonomy, and environmental mastery had the largest negative correlations with problematic smartphone usage. Given the stable and dispositional nature of well-being, it seems likely that much of the relationship is driven by a common underlying tendency to experience anxiety, negative emotions, and a lack of control, combined with a tendency to engage in maladaptive coping and compulsive behavior. An empirical study of the psychological factors of subjective well-being of adolescents was carried out with the help of observation, conversation and such psycho-diagnostic techniques as: “The subjective well-being questionnaire” (O. Vlasova); “Test “Determination of the personal adaptation of schoolchildren” (A. Furman); “The person orientation inventory questionnaire (POI, E. Shostrom)”; «Methodology» Anxiety scale «(J. Taylor); «Methodology» Definition of the general emotional orientation of the individual «(B. Dodonov); Technique «Man in the rain» (O. Romanova, T. Sytko); author's questionnaire, which helped to determine the adolescents subjective view of happiness. Statistical data processing was performed by using the capabilities of the SPSS-21 computer program. Experimental work was carried out during 2013-2017 on the basis of Kyiv educational institutions. The total number of subjects covered 400 students of the 8th -9th grades studying with in-depth study of physics and mathematics. The students of physical and mathematical lyceums have an anxiety level corresponding to the age standards, the greatest is the indicator of self-assessed anxiety, the leading emotional orientation is romantic, praxical, gnostic and communicative, have an average level of self-actualization and an obvious level of personal non-adaptability. Subjective well-being is at an average level and has links with personal adaptability and altruistic emotional orientation. Girls, compared to boys in terms of learning exact sciences, are more romantically and aesthetically emotionally oriented, with a higher personal growth. The main factors of subjective well-being of students of physical and mathematical lyceums are personal adaptation, gnostic and altruistic orientation, low level of school anxiety and a high level of self-actualization. The study of subjective well-being of the students of physical and mathematical lyceums has helped to establish the close interdependent connection between personal adaptability, self-actualization, altruistic and praxical emotional orientation and subjective well-being of students. In addition, the level of subjective well-being is most influenced by its components as a goal in life, self-perception and positive attitude. An important factor is a respondent’s accommodation or non-accommodation in hostel, because it may affect his|her subjective characteristics, the formation of personal traits and relationships with others. Under studying the adolescents the basic psychological peculiarities, depending on the education form, it is established that adolescents studying in the institution of the residential type of the physical and mathematical direction have an average level of anxiety, with predominance of self-assessed anxiety. Practical, romantic and gnostic emotional orientations have a non-obvious level of personal non-adaptability, average level of self-actualization, high level of subjective well-being and its components, such as personal growth and positive attitude.

Relevance. The well-being of LGBT community is one of the most actual issue in psychology today. Our work is devoted to the analysis of such factors of the psychological well-being of homosexual men as belief in a competitive world and internalized homophobia. The study of these factors is important, since they form the image of the world and the image of oneself, which create the foundation for the perception of one’s achievements in the social world and self-acceptance. Since modern society maintains negative attitudes towards homosexuality, especially male homosexuality, we assume that along with the assimilation of these prejudices, an image of the world can be formed in which it is necessary to remain vigilant and expect a “dirty trick” from others, which will negatively affect the psychological well-being of gays. The aim of the study was to examine the influence of belief in a competitive world and internalized homophobia on psychological well-being among homosexual men. Research methods and sampling. There are three questionnaires in our study of K. Ryff “Psychological well-being”, J. Duckitt “Jungle world beliefs” and W. Mayfield “Internalized homonegativity”. The study involved 68 men who identified themselves as homosexuals. The results of the study showed that internalized homophobia makes a greater contribution to psychological well-being, while the role of faith in a competitive world is significantly less. At the same time, acceptance of one’s homosexuality contributes to psychological well-being, understood by K. Ryff as a positive functioning of the individual, and faith in a competitive world negatively affects psychological well-being. The results obtained allow us to conclude that the social outlook and self-attitude of the individual play a significant role in psychological well-being.
