Background: This study explored the role of hospitals, specialised doctors and staff in developing patient awareness, participation and motivation concerning asthma control. It also looked at the challenges that undermine the value of asthma educational programmes, especially in an Arab cultural context. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from 30 asthma patients who had been living with asthma for a long period of time. Results: Findings highlight how an asthma educational programme can increase patient knowledge about the causes of asthma. Following the programme, patients had a better understanding of levels of medication, breathing techniques and rest and relaxation. Awareness of support from health professionals for managing depression and frustration also increased. However, some patients felt that the asthma educational programme content and delivery was not very interactive and was too lengthy. Conclusion: Findings can help policy makers, researchers, hospitals, doctors and the national Ministry of Health improve the content of future asthma educational programmes. They can also inform the development of a research framework to extend understanding of relevant issues in an Arabian context.

The contribution explores the question of how people react to situations and experiences of transition and radical change which have a major impact on their own lives. What kind of mindset do they develop in the process, who are their role models and how do they overcome spiritual hardship and marginalisation? The life and work of Charlotte Lady Blennerhassett, née Countess Leyden (1843–1917), serves as a case-study showing how learned liberal Catholics – in this case a lay noblewoman – dealt with their spiritual homelessness in the post-1870 ultramontanised Roman Catholic Church. Blennerhassett’s historical biographies reveal an interest in people in situations of threshold and transition. Through her writings on historical and cultural issues, Blennerhassett addressed topics as freedom, reconciliation of peoples and nations and ethical action. For her, the role of religion in this context was evident. The writings of Charlotte Blennerhassett, “the last European” (as she was described in obituaries), contributed to saving the non-ultramontane heritage from oblivion.

Resource-based theory suggests that firms develop idiosyncratic capabilities that contribute to sustainable competitive advantage when they are valuable, rare, inimitable and non-substitutable. The successful use of information systems (IS) and information technology (IT) has been linked to improved firm performance. Recent literature suggests that a deeper understanding of what capability means in practice may be gained from a disaggregation into component competences and resources. A better understanding of the role of IS/IT in business level capability may be achieved through a fuller articulation, both of the capability itself, and the contribution of IS/IT, together with an evaluation of the effectiveness in delivering sustainable competitive advantage. A dynamic capabilities perspective explains the way firms adapt capabilities to changing market environments over time. This paper explores these propositions through an exploratory case study using a framework derived from a resource-based and systemic view of the firm. The analysis suggests a dynamic Capability Development Model through which the implications and potential for IS and IT over time may be understood. The paper addresses three issues. First, it offers a better articulation of what capability concepts mean in practice. Second, it takes a disaggregated understanding of capabilities, and third, it sheds light on the dynamics of capabilities.

This study is aimed at finding out how the role of classroom interaction in students’ speaking skill by showing the role of student-student interaction and student-teacher interaction inside classroom. While, the students often found some problems in learning speaking; one of the problem that they faced was lack of interaction in classroom. According to Warda (2015:2) “lack of interaction in EFL classes, could be the first lead to student’s oral poor productions.” Allwright (1984:156) defined interaction as the fundamental fact of classroom pedagogy- the fact that everything that happens in the classroom happens through a process of live-person-to-person interaction. Classroom interaction then is the one of facilitator to start conversation, as Nunan (1991:50) argued in two-way tasks (conversational interaction), all participants have a piece of informational known only to them which must be contributed to the small group discussion for the task to be completed successfully. The writer used qualitative research design and took one of the kinds of qualitative research method, which is a case study. The data obtained from the triangulation instruments. The first instrument was observation, this instrument helped the writer to find out the real situation in classroom especially the students’ interaction in speaking class, the second instrument was questionnaire, this instrument was to classify and determine how frequently interaction in classroom, the third instrument was the data transcript from interview. The results show that 92% of the students are aware about the important of classroom interaction in their speaking skill and 56% of them need their teacher to be guider as well as motivator with the number 24% to encourage them to interact and speak in the classroom. And students really need the teacher to provide more opportunities to interact with her, which according to their responses 68% of them prefer student-teacher interaction the most. In fact, students seem to know one of good students’ qualities is speaking and interacting in classroom, since refraining classroom interaction and showing no interest will naturally affect their speaking ability.

Sustainability is much more than simply protecting the environment. It requires a long-term vision for catalyzing the positive change that leads to sustainability in economic, social and environmental contexts. The current environmental problem is not simply related to the environment; rather, it encompasses the reconstruction of social and cultural issues in addition to economic policies that take into account natural capital as a resource. Considering the overall planning and design strategies in terms of sustainability, the most important fact is that the built environment is largely determined by the communities that dwell there and the buildings reflect the needs of the individuals and the various key actors, physical and social structure, and the physical location of the built structures. The current research is focused on the Lantau City in Hong Kong. It is a case study to determine the role of the cultural and social values in inducing sustainable development. The results showed that the consideration for the cultural and social capital, while moving away from political and economic ideologies, causes the success of sustainable development.

Aware of the huge and growing public health importance of depressive disorders the World Psychiatric Association developed an educational programme that brought together materials that psychiatrists could use in teaching other medical staff - for example general practitioners - about depression and its management. The programme was translated in many languages and widely used. Reports about the usefulness of the programme were very positive and usually drew attention to the fact that the programme contained a large amount of data that could be used in composing teaching curricula appropriate for the different settings in which the training was to take place. The experience gained in the use of the programme guided the development of the updated version of the programme released in 2009. As in the first edition, information was made available so that teachers could use in composing their educational activities. In addition however, a special chapter has been added to the programme addressing the role of culture in the presentation of depression and in its management. The presentation will describe the programme and its development. It will in particular describe the parts of the programme dealing with cultural issues and with the methods of education of general practitioners.
