Language skills acquisition in children indicates a remarkable achievement for every parent as the ability of comprehending and producing the language is one of the most important basic skills in human’s development. Approaching the age of five, a normal child’s language development is in a complex-linguistic period where she is able to produce a language with a firm grammatical structure as adults conduct. Interestingly, this happened without a regular and structured grammar learning process. However, some factors play significant roles to activating cognitive systems in children (Wahyuni, 2019) which stimulates their language skills. The most basic language skill in children that is able to be fostered early is listening skill which they have needed and acquired before they reach their first year of age and will be continuously developed during their language development journey. Listening becomes crucial for them as it cognitively creates a comprehensible input before creating outputs for them to producing the language, before they start speaking. Applying an intrinsic case study on a pre-school (near five-year old) child, this qualitative research tries to describe how the process of early listening skill can be trained by parents or care-givers to stimulate children’s language skills acquisition in their first language (L1) skills acquisition. Specifically it sheds some light on how early listening skill foster L1 skill in children. Some suggestions regarding improvement strategies related to establishing early listening skills in children are presented as well as additional implication of this study for future researches.

Smartphones and WhatsApp are, respectively, the medium and application that Spanish teenagers most want. However, research into the use of WhatsApp is still quantitatively and qualitatively limited. In addition, little research has been carried out regarding its impact on the development of transmedia skills and informal learning strategies outside the classroom. This article aims to expand the knowledge on teenagers’ motivations and their development of transmedia skills and informal learning strategies in relation to their use of WhatsApp. Specifically, a qualitative analysis of data gathered from workshops, interviews, and media diaries is applied as part of a case study methodology involving teenagers from 10 schools located in five different Spanish regions. The results reveal the new WhatsApp uses teenagers are applying in their daily lives as well as the skills and strategies they are developing through said uses in the context of interpersonal and group (WhatsApp groups) interactions: on one hand, production, social, content, and individual management skills, and on the other hand, learning by doing, teaching, and evaluating strategies.

They are usually tied to the needs and interests of students to enhance their learning efficiency. This article aims at exploring perspectives and practices of learning strategies in learning English language. For this, phenomenological descriptive qualitative research was conducted with a class of 48 students of Bachelor in Education at a constituent campus, under Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Both the class of the students and campus were selected purposively to meet the requirement of phenomenological study. Thirty classes were observed as a participant as well as teacher and from the same group of the students only ten students were interviewed. Then, the data from both the sources were triangulated, interpreted and analyzed descriptively. From this study, it was interpreted that students employed various strategies to learn different language skills and aspects. The study revealed that students felt difficulty in selecting proper learning strategy for learning grammatical rules due to many exceptional cases and listening skill due to their less time devotion on it while the felt ease to select and employ proper strategies in learning vocabulary.

Purpose: The study analyses how active learning strategies can improve the learners’ language skills especially the listening skills with the use of various active learning strategies and blended teaching. It also shed light on the aim and purpose of certain strategies that will make the class more student-centered and engages the learners actively. It supports the constructivist approach a theory that underlies active learning. The study involves a survey conducted in some private, semi-urban, CBSE, middle schools in Chennai on the English teachers in understanding their opinion on using active learning strategies in class to enhance the learners’ language skills in a day-to-day classroom. The data collected from the survey form and details from one-on-one interaction with teachers will help the researcher learn the impediments faced by the teachers in implementing these strategies in the classroom. Methodology: The survey sheet is a questionnaire that focuses on the teacher’s classroom practices. It involves certain aspects such as Teaching methodology, teaching strategies, assessments, Feedback and its efficacy and Teacher attitude towards students. The questionnaire besides MCQs also had some one-line questions to which teachers had to answer. The survey was conducted on 50 teachers from 6 different schools teaching English in Middle schools of the semi-urban area of Chennai. Main Findings: The various barriers faced by the teachers in implementing active learning strategies are found in the survey conducted. It was also observed that there was some dearth of knowledge among teachers in the contemporary theories that lead to the resistance of the teachers in conducting the activities. Application: The methods mentioned in the paper can be adopted by teachers who also feel that the major reasons for their resistance in using active learning strategies in their day-to-day class are categorically similar to the reasons mentioned in the paper. Novelty: The methods suggested in the paper are a combination of active learning which is a theory predominantly based on constructivism and blended teaching. Although the reasons mentioned by the teachers in the survey are major limitations in planning an active learning class, these can be controlled to an extent by planning these strategies with resources suitable to one’s learner group and using certain active learning strategies in class with the students.
