Study Objective: To develop a mathematical model for predicting suicide risk in students at military academies. Study Design: This was a comparative prospective study. Materials and Methods: One hundred and thirty-three students at the Naval Polytechnic Institute, a subdivision of the Naval Academy named for the Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union N.G. Kuznetsov, participated in the study. Assessment of the participants was done with the following tools: “The Ratio of Value and Accessibility in Various Areas of Life,” “Self-reflection Test,” “Semantic Differential,” “Military Occupational Aptitude,” and the “Mental Well-being Scale” questionnaire. Discriminative analysis was done to develop a mathematical model for predicting suicide risk. Study Results: Participants at high risk for suicide had scores for their personal emotional attitude towards the concepts “military service” and “ego ideal” that were lower by a statistically significant margin (p<0.05), and higher levels of self-reflection. In addition, more of them had intrapsychic conflict. The combination of these psychological characteristics was a risk factor for suicidal behavior in these military academy students. Conclusion: An informative model for predicting suicide risk in naval academy students was created, using discriminant modelling. Introduction. Discipline is the basis of the army. The study of personal characteristics of servicemen with low discipline will allow to find effective methods of increasing discipline. The purpose of the work: to develop a model for predicting the discipline of cadets of the Naval Academy named after N. G. Kuznetsov. Materials and methods. 102 cadets of the Naval Academy named after N. G. Kuznetsov were examined in 2–3 courses of study at the age of 18–23 years. According to the level of expert assessment, the commanders of the level of discipline are divided into two groups with high and low discipline. Methods are used: the level of correlation of value and accessibility in various life spheres, the scale of psychological wellbeing, the test of reflexivity, the semantic differential. Results of the study. Mathematical modeling of the forecast of discipline of cadets of the Naval Academy named after N. G. Kuznetsov using discriminant analysis. Predictors of discipline of military cadets are a combination of personal emotional attitude to concepts: material well-being and the future, the value of such concepts as love and interesting work, the discrepancy between value and availability of material well-being, reflexivity. Conclusions. The mathematical model of forecasting the discipline of cadets of a military higher educational institution can be used in the framework of medical and psychological support for cadets of military universities.

Abstract. Background: Few investigations of patient perceptions of suicide prevention interventions exist, limiting our understanding of the processes and components of treatment that may be engaging and effective for high suicide-risk patients. Aims: Building on promising quantitative data that showed that adjunct mindfulness-based cognitive therapy to prevent suicidal behavior (MBCT-S) reduced suicidal thinking and depression among high suicide-risk patients, we subjected MBCT-S to qualitative inspection by patient participants. Method: Data were provided by 15 patients who completed MBCT-S during a focus group and/or via a survey. Qualitative data were coded using thematic analysis. Themes were summarized using descriptive analysis. Results: Most patients viewed the intervention as acceptable and feasible. Patients attributed MBCT-S treatment engagement and clinical improvement to improved emotion regulation. A minority of patients indicated that factors related to the group treatment modality were helpful. A small percentage of patients found that aspects of the treatment increased emotional distress and triggered suicidal thinking. These experiences, however, were described as fleeting and were not linked to suicidal behavior. Limitations: The sample size was small. Conclusion: Information gathered from this study may assist in refining MBCT-S and treatments to prevent suicidal behavior among high suicide-risk patients generally.

Study objective. To evaluate the efficacy of intrauterine administration of autologous peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) prior to embryo transfer in patients with recurrent implantation failures in IVF program. Materials and methods. The study enrolled 129 patients with recurrent implantation failures in an IVF programme. Group 1 - 42 patients who had intrauterine administration of autologous PBMC activated with hCG (Pregnyl 500 IU). Group 2 - 42 patients who had intrauterine administration of autologous PBMC without hCG activation. Group 3 (placebo) - 45 patients who had intrauterine administration of saline. Study results. In the hCG-activated PBMC group, the rates of positive blood hCG tests, implantation, and clinical pregnancy were significantly higher than the respective rates in the non-activated PBMC group and in the placebo group, both in a stimulated cycle and in an FET cycle (р≤0.05). Conclusion. Intrauterine administration of autologous PBMC prior to embryo transfer in an IVF/ICSI programme increases the efficacy of IVF program in patients with a history of recurrent implantation failures.

Work-Life balance has its importance from ancient days and the concept is very old, from the day the world has been created. There was a drastic change that has occurred in the market of teachers and their personal profiles. There are tremendous changes in various families which have bartered from the ‘breadwinner’ role of traditional men to single parent families and dual earning couples. This study furnishes an insight into work life balance and job satisfaction of teachers working in School of Villupuram District. The sample comprises of 75 school teachers from Government and private schools in Villupuram District. The Study results that there is increasing mediating evidence in Work-life balance as well as Job satisfaction of teachers are not affected by the type of school in which they are working. Job satisfaction or Pleasure of life will be affected as a whole by Work life balance of an individual which is the main which can be calculated by construct of subjective well being.

Suicide is a global health issue accounting for at least 800,000 deaths per annum. Numerous models have been proposed that differ in their emphasis on the role of psychological, social, psychiatric and neurobiological factors in explaining suicide risk. Central to many models is a stress-diathesis component which states that suicidal behavior is the result of an interaction between acutely stressful events and a susceptibility to suicidal behavior (a diathesis). This article presents an overview of studies that demonstrate that stress and dysregulated hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activity, as measured by cortisol levels, are important additional risk factors for suicide. Evidence for other putative stress-related suicide risk factors including childhood trauma, impaired executive function, impulsivity and disrupted sleep are considered together with the impact of family history of suicide, perinatal and epigenetic influences on suicide risk.

The article compares the results of calculation of the finite element simulation of current and temperature distribution in the scale model of the DC catenary with the data of laboratory tests. Researches were carried on various versions of the structural design of catenary model, reflecting the topological features of the wire connection, characteristic of the DC contact network. The proportions of the cross-sectional area of the scaled model wires are comparable to each other with the corresponding values for real DC catenary. The article deals with the operating conditions of the catenary model in the modes of transit and current collection. When studying the operation of the scale catenary model in the transit mode, the effect of the structural elements on the current distribution and heating of the wires was obtained. Within the framework of the scale model, theoretical assumptions about the current overload of the supporting cable near the middle anchoring have been confirmed. In the current collection mode, the experimental dependences of the current in the transverse wires of the scale model are obtained from the coordinate of the current collection point. Using the model it was experimentally confirmed that in the section of the contact wire with local wear, not only the temperature rise occurs but also the current redistribution due to the smaller cross section. Thus, the current share in other longitudinal wires of the scale model increases and their temperature rises. Scale and mathematical models are constructed with allowance for laboratory clamps and supporting elements that participate in the removal of heat from the investigated wires. Obtained study results of the scale model allow to draw a conclusion about the adequacy of the mathematical model and its correspondence to the real physical process. These conclusions indicate the possibility of applying mathematical model for calculating real catenary, taking into account the uneven contact wear wire and the armature of the contact network.

Little is known regarding the life satisfaction of rural-to-urban migrants in China. In this study we assessed whether self-esteem and perceived social support mediated the association between rural-to-urban migrants' acculturative stress and life satisfaction. We use convenience sampling to recruit 712 migrants who were employed at construction sites in Nanjing for the study. Results reveal that acculturative stress was negatively related to self-esteem, perceived social support, and life satisfaction; self-esteem was positively associated with perceived social support and life satisfaction; and perceived social support was a significant and positive predictor of life satisfaction. In addition, we found that self-esteem and perceived social support partially mediated the relationship between acculturative stress and life satisfaction. Our findings provide a better understanding of life satisfaction over the course of migration, and add to knowledge of psychological well-being and mental health among rural-to-urban migrants in China.

Bipolar disorder is usually accompanied by a high suicide risk. The main aim was to identify the risk and protective factors involved in suicide risk in adolescents with bipolar experiences. Of a total of 1506 adolescents, 467 (31%) were included in the group reporting bipolar experiences or symptoms, 214 males (45.8%) and 253 (54.2%) females. The mean age was 16.22 (SD = 1.36), with the age range between 14 and 19. Suicide risk, behavioral and emotional difficulties, prosocial capacities, well-being, and bipolar experiences were assessed through self-report. Mediation analyses, taking gender as a moderator and controlling age as a covariate, were applied to estimate suicide risk. The results indicated that the effect of bipolar experiences on suicide risk is mediated by behavioral and emotional difficulties rather than by prosocial behavior and subjective well-being. Specifically, emotional problems, problems with peers, behavior problems, and difficulties associated with hyperactivity were the most important variables. This relationship was not modulated by gender. However, the indirect effects of some mediators varied according to gender. These results support the development of suicide risk prevention strategies focused on reducing emotional difficulties, behavioral problems, and difficulties in relationships with others.

Abstract Learning through reflection is one of the most interesting experiences that students might have. It is considered a very good tool for self-assessing learning. It is believed that “teachers who promote reflective classrooms ensure that students are fully engaged in the process of making meaning” (Costa and Kallick, 2008, para.5). Dewey (1991) was among the first researchers who based his work and research on the positive roles that reflection plays in fostering self-reflection and critical thinking. He has defined it as an active, persistent and careful consideration of any belief. Reflections give students opportunities to think and reflect about their learning and note down the obstacles they might face during this process. The present study aims to investigate the impact of journal writing in promoting critical-thinking skills, and its impact on enhancing learning. The study uses two instruments, a student refection journal and an interview. Also, Marzano’s New Taxonomy of Educational Objectives developed in 2000 was used in the third phase of the study. This Taxonomy contains Three Systems: the Self-system, the Metacognitive system and the Cognitive system. The overall study results show that reflection journals help students to become more independent learners, reflect on their learning experiences and identify the most useful learning strategies. Most importantly, all study participants hold positive attitudes towards reflection and they consider it as a valuable tool which can increase learning.
