The current research aimed at detecting the effect of some methods and practices used in the academic supervision program at the College of Education; on achieving students’ satisfaction and helping them avoid the risk of falling under academic probation. To achieve this goal, two tools were used: The first one was student evaluation Questionnaire of the academic supervisor, and the second was student interview form with the academic supervisor. The research tools were both applied, after finishing the spring semester 2018, on 61 mixed gender students who received the academic supervision program at the College of Education of Sultan Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman. The results of the qualitative analysis of students' responses to both tools have indicated a high level of students’ satisfaction with the academic supervision practices of the current program. The researcher recommends developing research tools and applying them more extensively and adding other criteria to further ensure that the academic supervision program achieves its full objectives.

This study aims to identify the acquisition of linguistic competencies by pre-service physical education teachers at the College of Education, Sultan Qaboos University, and in-service physical education teachers in Muscat and Dhofar Governorates in Oman, as well as any statistical differences between these two groups. The population of the study consisted of 30 pre-service teachers and 28 in-service teachers. The observation card instrument was used to collect data. The results showed that the acquisition level of the linguistic competencies of pre-service physical education teachers was medium. However, the acquisition level of the linguistic competencies of in-service physical education teachers was high. Furthermore, there were significant differences between the acquisition level of linguistic competencies in pre-service and in-service teachers in favor of in-service teachers. Based on these findings, we recommend developing these competencies in pre-service teachers during the teacher education program by focusing particularly on planning, implementation, and assessment.

Although the mathematics foundation program was introduced in Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) half a decade ago, there has been no evaluation or assessment of the program. The aim of this study was to evaluate the students’ performance in the Mathematics foundation course in SQU and to examine the predictive value of  a student’s high school performance for success in the math foundation course. The study considered a sample of 551 students who took the math course (MATH2107) during 2014 Spring semester. More than 95% of the students were admitted to SQU with a high school score of 80 and above.  The analysis revealed that, in general, female students were admitted to SQU with a significantly higher average high school score than the male students. The findings indicate a very unsatisfactory performance of the students in the mathematics foundation course as the mean GPA was 1.66 and more than half (59%) of the students obtained a GPA less than 2 (i.e. below grade C), of which 14% failed and 35% obtained grade D. Female students outperformed male students in the mathematics course. High school mathematics performance, gender and cohort of students were identified as significant predictors of success in the mathematics foundation course.  To increase the success rate of the mathematics course, the high school curriculum needs to be aligned with the University standards and the admission authority should continue to give more attention to high school mathematics scores along with overall high school performance while making admission decisions for the College of Science in SQU.

The current research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the collaborative e-learning strategy used in WebQuest in developing students' higher thinking levels at the College of Education, Sultan Qaboos University. To achieve this objective, a thinking test was prepared, its validity and reliability were tested. Then, it was applied to an experimental and a control group, each of which consisted of 35 students. After calculating the students' grades and processing them statistically, the findings revealed the effectiveness of the collaborative e-learning strategy used in WebQuest in developing the higher thinking levels of the students of the College of Education, Sultan Qaboos University. The study recommended designing different courses’ topics using WebQuest, conducting training courses and workshops for faculty members of the College of Education on how to design, produce and use WebQuest in teaching their courses. The study suggested conducting similar research and related studies.

The study examined the effect of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) on pre-service teachers' performance in reaction rate concepts. The research employed the quasi-experimental design of a one group pretest-posttest type. A sample of one hundred and fifty (150) pre-service teachers were selected from an accessible population of level hundred (L100) students from the St. Ambrose College of Education at Dormaa Akwamu in the Bono Region of Ghana. Reaction Rate Concept Test (RRCT) was used to gather data for the research. Percentages and Means were used to answer research questions. The results show that the CAI strategy has a positive effect on pre-service teachers' performance on reaction rate concepts. The study again shows that the use of CAI can improve learners' performance in science and can help learners in high-level cognitive performance. CAI strategy proved to be an effective conceptual change teaching strategy in science. Based on the results obtained, it is recommended that science teachers should adopt the CAI and other ICT related strategies in teaching for improved learning outcomes in Chemistry.

Students’ satisfaction plays a vital role in ensuring effective online learning. This study investigated the association between social presence and students’ satisfaction toward online discussions in Learning Management System (LMS) platform conducted at a private university in Malaysia. Both correlation and two-step hierarchical linear regression were performed to analyze the online survey data. The instruments used to measure the summated scores of social presence and satisfaction were Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework and satisfaction scale, respectively. The results revealed that the correlation between both variables was significantly positive. Students who declared relatively high level of satisfaction were more likely to report high level of interaction with their peers in online conversation and high level of social presence. Essentially, social presence seemed to contribute the most in predicting the level of course satisfaction amongst the students.
