The article is devoted to the initial stage of Ukrainization in the Kuban, which consisted mainly of a purposeful and consistent introduction of the Ukrainian language and culture into the life of the population. After the February 1917 events in Russia, various national movements, where they were present, sharply intensified. In particular, the Cuban-Ukrainian movement in the Kuban also became more active. Initially, measures for this implementation were planned to be implemented in the sphere of education, mainly school. At the first stage it was spontaneous, at the initiative of the inhabitants of some localities, but with the support of the Kuban Territorial and legislative rads. The Kuban Parliament, immediately after its formation in March 1917, announced to the Provisional Government its plans to create an extensive network of Ukrainian schools, to use the Ukrainian language more widely, to promote its implementation in church services.

AbstractThe problem of the decay of intense vortices in a shallow rotated neutrally stratified fluid is considered using simulations with a modified model of von Kármán type and laboratory experiments. The numerical model describes a forced axisymmetric vortex, vertically confined, but infinite in the horizontal plane. It may be used for comparisons with laboratory experiments, in which a quasi-turbulent eddy flow is generated, using magnetohydrodynamic forcing. A detailed analysis of simulations of the free decay of the flow from an initial state, given either by an arbitrary Poiseuille or by a forced stationary profile of vorticity, is provided. Based on this analysis, three different regimes of decay of intense anticyclones in the parameter space of the Ekman and initial Rossby numbers are found. It is shown that anticyclones with large enough Rossby and small enough Ekman numbers may decay to a non-trivial stationary state, or at least they decay much slower than cyclones of the same intensity. The laboratory experiments show much slower decay of intense anticyclones than weak anticyclones or cyclones, and also a dominance of anticyclones over cyclones during the initial stage of decay. These observations qualitatively agree with theoretical predictions.

The aim of this paper is to find out the important of cultural filtering that used by translator in language translation. As we know that language and culture being inextricably interwoven, the transference of the linguistic expression is precisely an attempt to integrate elements of one culture into another. Translation, thus, becomes a cross cultural event and the translator has to formulate his translation strategies to translate source culture into target culture. To deal with these cultural problems, translator is supposed to insert cultural filter in the initial stage of understanding and analyzing codification of the source text in the first stance. Here the cultural filter helps translator in obtain various elements of source culture which cannot go as they are in the target culture because of cultural differences.

The active development of cooperation between the friendly peoples of the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China requires intensified training of specialists capable of ensuring intercultural communication between citizens of China, Russia and other Commonweath of Independent States members. In accordance with modern linguodidactics, the development of a foreign language should be linked with culture studies, which ensure the development of the linguistic and cultural competences. It is essential that Russian students fully understand cultural meanings of China’s state symbols. The paper proves the need to acquaint Russian students studying Chinese language and culture with the state symbols of the People’s Republic of China (flag, coat of arms and anthem) at the initial stage of training. It is important that Russian students fully understand the cultural meanings of the state symbols of modern China, the country that is proud of its history and looks boldly into the future. Didactic materials that can be used in the classroom on the topic “State Emblem of the People’s Republic of China”, as well as additional materials for educational or extracurricular activities are presented in the study. Comparable components of Chinese and Russian (Soviet) state symbols, their national and historical features are highlighted in the paper as confirmation of the prospects of using the comparative principle in the classroom with Russian students.

The article is devoted to the study of the linguistic expression of the phenomenon of pain in the texts of F.M. Dostoevsky. The material of the analysis is the texts of works of fiction, journalism and letters of the Great Russian writer. The study of Dostoevskys texts is preceded by an analysis of entries in explanatory and specialized dictionaries and encyclopedias, including articles in the Dictionary of Dostoevskys Language. The relevance of the study is determined by the approaching bicentennial of F.M. Dostoevsky, in whose works the phenomenon of pain has become one of the important subjects of the image. The specificity of this work lies in the reliance on linguistic methods of studying the phenomenon of pain while maintaining the interdisciplinary focus of the research as a whole. Various associative connections of the word pain and its derivatives in the contexts of the writers works of different genres are being studied. At the initial stage, the selection of material is carried out by the method of continuous sampling using the DiaWin software system of the Department of Experimental Lexicography of the V.V. Vinogradov Russian Language Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The material thus obtained, is subjected to a multilevel analysis, in course of which the specificity of the conceptualization of pain in language and culture is revealed and the features of the depiction and interpretation of the phenomenon of pain in the discourse of Dostoevsky and his characters are revealed. Conclusions are formulated about the stable associative connections of the lexeme pain, the specificity of the linguistic depiction of various states of pain in the writers texts is revealed, the original interpretations of the concept of pain in the discourses of heroes-ideologists are analyzed. As a result, the analyzed phenomenon appears in multidimensional illumination. The general structure of the frame is established. The relationship between external symptoms and internal sensations of physical and mental pain is revealed. It is postulated that the explication of the concept of pain by a native speaker is fraught with significant difficulties, since pain is introspective and subjectively experienced. This special state is experienced and lived on. The contextual combinations of meanings of the word pain in Dostoevskys texts are highlighted. The specificity of the figurative representation of pain situations in the writers works is revealed. The increments of meaning characteristic of Dostoevskys contexts are analyzed. As a result, pain is interpreted as a complex phenomenon of language and culture and an important concept in the discourse of F.M. Dostoevsky.

We investigate the dynamics of short linear chains consisting of two-level systems (atoms) coupled by the electromagnetic field. The environment of photon modes acts as a source of noise and leads to the disappearance of the initially present multipartite entanglement. The rate of this process (entanglement degradation) depends on the separation of the atoms, and also on the initial state. With the aid of the appropriate entanglement witnesses we show that this rate is exceptionally low for the so-called subradiant states. Below one resonant wavelength of atomic separation the effect of the environmental noise is weaker than the dipole-dipole interaction and multipartite entanglement can be formed in the initial stage of the time evolution.

Unlike other national movements in Central Europe at the beginning of the 19th century, the Romanian national awakening was unique in being as francophile as it was romanianophile. Parallel to the revived emphasis upon the vernacular language and the exhumation of Romanian customs and folklore, French language and culture penetrated widely into the Romanian-speaking regions and were even encouraged. The examination of this paradox opens up considerations that are at once scientific (French as a Romance language being a model for the re-Latinization of Romanian), emotional (admiration and affinity towards a sister nation), and identity-related (belief in the existence of common elements of identity). It also allows us to better understand the fact that, for two centuries now, Romania has had a tenacious tradition of writing in French, which can in no way be understood solely or even primarily as a “migration literature in French”.

Aging experiments were conducted to study initial state Fe-clustering in Au–Fe alloys with Fe content from 10.7 to 33%. Information derived from experiments using transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction, and high resolution electron microscopy suggests the coexistence of short-range-order and Fe-clusters. At early stages of aging, lobe-like and/or rod-shaped strain contrast images, identified as clusters, were revealed after specimens were further cleaned by an ion-miller. The (11/20) special point diffuse reflections were prominent in the as-quenched condition and/or early stage aging, and the intensities decrease gradually as aging proceeds. After a certain period, (11/20) diffuse reflections disappear but strain contrast images still remain similar. This suggests that the strain contrast images are not related to the (11/20) diffuse reflections. The cluster characteristics of Au–Fe alloys are differentiated from those of Al–Cu and Cu–Be based upon theoretical calculations.

The authors’ objective was to find out how and why the approach of the Russian Orthodox Church to sociocultural adaptation of predominantly Muslim international labor migrants has evolved from its initial stage to now. Research methodology is based on a critical analysis of various sources, on observations, and archival materials. The adaptation program of the Church was advertised as a secular project pursuing the goal of peacekeeping because of a tacit agreement on mutual non-proselytisation between the basic faith-based communities in Russia. The initiative, launched in December 2012, had to merge adaptation courses of all dioceses into a nationwide network that then was expected to become part of an all-Russian system of preparation for language and culture tests. The Church also planned to open its own network of testing centrescenters for migrants. The authors emphasize that, although some of the diocesan courses were successful, the initiative deteriorated due to many external and internal factors. One of them was that diocesan courses have proven to be unattractive for labor migrants; their curriculum was too thick and overloaded with information about Russian culture and Orthodox Christianity, while Muslim labor migrants preferred to adapt to their new environment with a mediation of their own networks. It is suggested by the authors that the main cause of the project’s non-fulfillment was an intra-church cleavage between the enthusiasts of adaptation who convinced that diocesan courses must aim at spreading the Orthodox faith to foreign workers, including Muslims, and the church officials who promoted secular curriculum and forbade preaching Christianity to labor migrants.

Solid-state reactions have traditionally been studied in the form of diffusion couples. This ‘bulk’ approach has been modified, for the specific case of the reaction between NiO and Al2O3, by growing NiAl2O4 (spinel) from electron-transparent Al2O3 TEM foils which had been exposed to NiO vapor at 1415°C. This latter ‘thin-film’ approach has been used to characterize the initial stage of spinel formation and to produce clean phase boundaries since further TEM preparation is not required after the reaction is completed. The present study demonstrates that chemical-vapor deposition (CVD) can be used to deposit NiO particles, with controlled size and spatial distributions, onto Al2O3 TEM specimens. Chemical reactions do not occur during the deposition process, since CVD is a relatively low-temperature technique, and thus the NiO-Al2O3 interface can be characterized. Moreover, a series of annealing treatments can be performed on the same sample which allows both Ni0-NiAl2O4 and NiAl2O4-Al2O3 interfaces to be characterized and which therefore makes this technique amenable to kinetics studies of thin-film reactions.

An interest in NiTi alloys with near stoichiometric composition (55 NiTi) has intensified since they were found to exhibit a unique mechanical shape memory effect at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory some twelve years ago (thus refered to as NITINOL alloys). Since then, the microstructural mechanisms associated with the shape memory effect have been investigated and several interesting engineering applications have appeared. The shape memory effect implies that the alloy deformed from an initial shape will spontaneously return to that initial state upon heating. This behavior is reported to be related to a diffusionless shear transformation which takes place between similar but slightly different CsCl type structures.
