Through this study, we want to determine whether workplace spirituality has mediating effects between individual's spirituality and organizational performance in a hospitality business in Hotel X, Clarkfield, Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines. We used the Spirituality Assessment Scale developed by Hamilton Beazley, PhD targeting one hundred twenty-nine respondents. As far as we have known, our study may serve as one of the pioneering studies of spirituality in the hospitality industry. Overall, hotel employees (the management and rank-and-file) are relatively more spiritual as shown on the Spirituality Assessment Scale, which are made up of two dimensions: spirituality definitive dimension and spirituality correlated dimension. The correlational analysis showed that the employees’ spirituality moves in the same direction as to how employees find meaning and purpose to their work and how they perceived organizational performance. Also, there is no significant difference on the assessment of the spirituality and organizational performance among the employees based on the respondents’ level of education, except under the components of inner life, meaning at work & personal responsibility. Hence, we encouraged businesses in the hospitality industry to promote spiritual activities in the workplace

AbstractThe objective of this article was to analyze the incidence of competitive intelligence in the economic development of companies. Conventional wisdom in diversity research holds that biodemographic diversity is harmful to performance, whereas job-related diversity is beneficial to performance. Empirical evidence in this area, however, remains mixed and inconclusive. Due to this inconsistency, scholars have recently called for a search for moderators of the relationship between diversity and performance to expand the theoretical perspectives on organizational diversity. In this context, we examine how biodemographic (gender, race, and age) and job-related (function and tenure) diversity influence organizational performance and how diversity climate as a potential moderator shapes the relationships between the two dimensions of diversity and performance. Using panel data from the U.S. federal government, we find that racial and tenure diversity have positive relationships with organizational performance, whereas functional diversity has a negative relationship. Further analysis reveals that a diversity climate positively moderates the relationship between racial diversity, functional diversity, tenure diversity, and organizational performance. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Substantial evidence exists to support the contention that executives interpret organizational events as problems. Little is known, however, about the way executives conceptualize organizational problem types, even though the contingency approach to management has suggested for years that managers interpret and respond to common types of problems. This study investigates executives' descriptions offour types of organizational problems that correspond to two dimensions (strategic versus operating, and human versus technical) commonly used by executives to interpret problems and repeatedly noted in organizational literature. It is hypothesized that executives represent the problem types inherent within each dimension differently. Responses were obtainedfrom 59 executives on 14 descriptors associated with the organizational problem formulation process. A repeated measures design was used to compare the two sets of problem types across the 14 process descriptors. Significant differences were found to exist between the descriptor sets for both dimensions, suggesting that executives perceive patterns in organizational problems; the results presented offer exploratory evidence of the nature of these patterns. Limitations of the study are noted and suggestions are madeforfurther research aiming to tie evidence of the contingent nature ofproblemformulation to managerial and organizational performance.

Diversity management is viewed as one of the sources of competitive advantage, but the relation between workforce diversity and organizational goals is not indisputable. In-depth analysis of literature in this field does not allow for a clear answer concerning the nature of this relation (there is not a lot of empirical research available, and more importantly, they have significant limitations). The paper presents the results of empirical research aimed at exploring the relation between workforce diversity and organizational performance, which seem to break through the major limitations of previous studies in this area, i.e. the association of organizational performance mainly with financial results and the domination of American authors (60% of studies were conducted in the USA, a country with a specific culture). The research subjects of this article are European football clubs, which can be treated as a model for the management of contemporary organizations (the study covers 166 clubs from 10 countries). The obtained results clearly indicate the lack of dependency between workforce diversity (considered using two dimensions of primary identity – nationality and age) and the achieved results (considered using their place in the final table of the 2016/17 season and the total number of points). It was concluded on this basis that, in organizations free from discriminatory prejudices (which is the case for most football clubs), diversity management is somewhat vacant

Many SMEs lack business competitiveness and sustainability. Their potential for growth and expansion is limited, and they are constrained by institutional challenges (such as high-interest rates and rigid regulatory requirements) which impede their creativity, innovativeness and sustainability. Despite the numerous contributions of the sector to the Ghanaian economy, SME internationalisation in Ghana is at the nascent stage and is bedevilled with a gamut of institutional challenges. Studies of the formal and informal institutional effects on indigenous SME internationalisation in the Ghanaian economy are limited. Furthermore, a stylised framework which serves as a model to aid academics and researchers in investigating the impact of the formal institutions (legal and political) and informal institutions (socio-culture) on Ghanaian-owned businesses is under-canvassed in the Ghanaian entrepreneurial eco-system. Hence, this paper suggests a model for institutions and SME internationalisation to boost their innovativeness and business sustainability.

Background: Performance evaluation in facilitating organizational effectiveness is considered an essential task of human resource management that depends on nurses’ employment status. Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the relationship of organizational performance with employment status and shift work in nurses at the Shahid Rahnemoun Hospital, Yazd, Iran. Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted in 2018. The sample consisted of 151 nurses who were included using census. The instrument was a standard questionnaire whose content validity was confirmed by three experts, and its reliability was approved by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Data analysis was performed using SPSS.22 software through independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and one-sample t-test. Results: Among the four components surveyed in the study, the highest and lowest means and standard deviations were related to “participation and cooperation” (4.35 ± 0.48) and “infection control and prevention” (4.21 ± 0.60), respectively. There was a significant relationship between total performance and the two dimensions of “care and treatment” and “participation and cooperation” with employment status (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The results showed that the type of employment of nurses would affect the organizational performance. In an organization where employees feel job security, they will be committed to that organization and perform their duties more competently, with more motivation and satisfaction.
