The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between social awareness and relationship management as the interpersonal dimension of Goleman‘s emotional intelligence and their ability to predict effective leadership in the Ghanaian banking industry. Using a descriptive cross-sectional survey design, a sample size of 307 employees was determined for the study from six commercial banks selected from Ghana‘s Club 100 rankings. A multi-stage sampling technique was used in the selection of the banks, their branches and employees who participated in the study. Standardized questionnaires served as the instruments for data collection. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the data. A significant positive relationship exists between social awareness and leadership effectiveness as well as relationship management and leadership effectiveness. The results also showed that demographic variables (gender, age, educational level, tenure) significantly moderated the relationship between social awareness and leadership effectiveness as well as relationship management and leadership effectiveness.

The study evaluates the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Effectiveness through a Systematic Review of Literature. The relationship has been evaluated in two steps. First, a Systematic review of literature was done to provide a theoretical framework to link the dimensions of Emotional Intelligence to the elements of effective leadership. Meta-analysis was then used to consolidate empirical evidence of the relationship. The studies for the meta-analysis were sourced from Pro Quest and EBSCO and the correlation coefficients of the studies were analysed. Only articles that presented the direct relationship between the variables were included in the study. The results of the analysis revealed a strong, statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence and effective leadership. The findings of the study provide evidence for the proposition that Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Effectiveness are interrelated.

This study compared intercollegiate athletic coaches’ self-perceptions to the perceptions of their players concerning a coach’s emotional intelligence. Sixteen coaches and 223 players from two Division I softball conferences completed the Emotional Competence Inventory-2 (Boyaztis, Goleman, & Hay/McBer, 2001). Mean analysis revealed that coaches rated themselves higher on 14 of the 18 emotional intelligence competencies and on all four emotional intelligence clusters. Coaches rated themselves highest in Social Awareness (Error! Bookmark not defined.x̅ = 4.27/5) while their athletes rated them highest in Self-Awareness (Error! Bookmark not defined.x̅ = 3.63/5). Meanwhile, athletes gave coaches their lowest rating in Relationship Management (Error! Bookmark not defined.x̅ = 3.44/5). Coaches need to be aware that the self-perceptions of their own behavior differ from the perceptions of their athletes. Since it is well known that the behavior of the coach affects the performance of the athlete, techniques to train coaches to recognize and overcome this difference could be beneficial and are provided.

In recent decades, effective leadership theorising, perceptions and studies have shifted attention to interpersonal skills and the leader’s capacity to inspire, encourage and motivate subordinates as well as create and maintain a sense of positive contribution to the whole of the organisation. This conceptualisation is in sharp contrast to prior studies and conceptualisations resonating with controlling, planning and target-oriented leadership. Consequently, this article takes as its premise the relationship between emotional intelligence (leading with the heart) and transformational leadership within the purview of COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic challenges. It is thus argued here that in times of crisis that humanity (and the organisation specifically) is faced with at the moment unleashed by COVID-19 pandemic challenges, a style of leadership that takes as its focal point emotional intelligence mediated by transformational leadership can be instrumental in leading business organisation through this epoch. The methodology used here is steeped in cursory look at prior, relevant literature on these phenomena and how it helps to inform a conceptual framework that could help in shedding new light on how to confront the challenges of Covid-19 through effective leadership. This paper concludes that in times of crisis – particularly the one ushered in by Covid-19 – a medley of emotional intelligence and transformational leadership is necessary to drive effective change for organisation, which would help them to bounce back and operate profitably and sustainably.

Factors such as vision, articulation, rational intelligence, emotional intelligence, and spiritual intelligence impact leadership effectiveness. Does the effectiveness depend on the work context and the followers demographics? If it does depend on the context and demographics then the singularity of the construct becomes debatable. So it becomes all the more important for persons in the leadership role to understand the subtleties. In this research employees of two different sectors (IT and non-IT) participated to indicate their perception about leadership effectiveness (LE). In the first phase of the research dimensions of LE were identified through Lens model and subsequently administered to equal number of respondents from IT and non-IT sectors. The data was analyzed for commonality, differences and relationships. The results indicate that non-IT employees perceive a greater degree of leader vision and articulation scores compared with IT employees. Age of the employee is found to be negatively related to vision, articulation, and emotional intelligence dimensions of LE. Employees education is significantly related to vision only in the group of IT participants. It is unrelated to other variables. Finally, work experience and organizational experience of participants are found to be unrelated to psychological variables. The findings indicate a greater reporting of articulation in case of non-IT leader. Mismatch between the age of the followers and age of the leaders is likely to be a root cause of the negative relationship between age and vision as revealed in the findings of the present investigation. The relationship between the followers age and leaders articulation is found to be negative. Age is also found to be inversely related to employees perception of leaders emotional intelligence. The sector profile perhaps explains why the non-IT participants have not reported any association of significance between education and vision in the present investigation. The present investigation has the unique feature of deriving the pertinent dimensions instead of imposing a-priori dimensions.

BACKGROUND: Human errors cause accidents in the workplace. Screening workers at employment can prevent future accidents from happening. Two important tools that can be helpful in screening are determining the emotional intelligence score and personality traits score of the workers. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between Emotional Intelligence, Personality Traits and safety behaviors in metal Industries workers. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional survey. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to determine the relationship between the components of emotional intelligence, unsafe behaviors, and personality. To collect data for this study, Five –factor Goldberg questionnaire, BAR-ON Emotional questionnaire and Safety behavior questionnaire were used. The collected data were entered into software (SPSS version22) and refined. RESULTS: The results of this study showed that there was a significant positive correlation between personality traits, emotional intelligence and safe behaviors (P-Value = 0.000). The confirmatory factor analysis showed that personality traits influence safe behaviours. Also, studies have shown that emotional intelligence has a positive effect on safe behaviours. The amount indicators of goodness of fit (GFI), Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) and root mean square error approximation (RMSEA) were 0.944, 0.970, 0.965 and 0.061, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that personality traits and emotional intelligence influence safe behaviours in the workplace. Employers can use these two tools in the employment phase and prevent future human-related accidents.
