The aim of this study was to evaluate feces quality and organic matter intake of New Zealand White (NZW) rabbit fed different fibre source in the ration. The treatments were T1: coffee peel as fibre source, T2: coffee and been peel (1:1) as fibre source (1:1) and T3: been peel as fibre source. Five teen NZW 50-60 days old with 1.2 kg initial body weigh were divided randomly in to three treatments. Result of this experiment were no significant effect (P>0.05) of treatment on crude protein, crude fibre of feces and organic matter intake but gave significant effect (P<0.05) on feces crude fat.It can be concluded that the feces quality of rabbit fed different fibre source in the ration was relatively same, therefore it doesn’t need pre-treatment when it will further processed.

It was confirmed in metabolic experiments with 4 individuals of roe deer (2 males and 2 females with the live weight of 20.8 and 17.9 kg, respectively) that due to the animals&rsquo; selective choice of a part of feeds there was no significant difference in the intake of lucerne hay of different quality and high-quality meadow hay (515.86 &plusmn; 66.97 and 597.82 &plusmn; 94.87 g, respectively). However, different quality of lucerne hay influenced the animals&rsquo; intake of crude protein and crude fibre. When the animals were fed meadow hay, they took in significantly less crude protein and fibre and significantly more nitrogen-free extract, fat and ash. Digestibility of crude protein was observed to be significantly decreased in hay of lower quality (by 10.1%). Digestibility coefficients for crude protein, crude fibre, organic matter and fat were significantly lower in grass hay compared to lucerne hay. Based on the coefficients of nutrient digestibility it can be stated that meadow hay, even if of excellent quality, is not a suitable supplement for the roe deer. &nbsp;

Many feed industries in various parts of the country have been producing and marketingdifferent types of compound feeds. The source of feed ingredients also varies greatly which willultimately lead to the variation in the quality of finished products. Altogether 493 samples of 50different feed ingredients and compound feed were collected from Baglung, Baitadi, Banke,Chitwan, Darchula, Dolakha, Dolpa, Gorkha, Ilam, Jhapa, Kathmandu, Kaski, Lalitpur,Lamjung, Morang, Mahottary, Makwanpur, Myagdi, Nawal Parasi, Parbat, Parsa, Rasuwa,Rupandehi, Sankhuwasava, Sunsari, Saptari, Sarlahi, Sindhupalchok, Siraha, Syangja andTanahun districts. Highest content of dry matter (99.51%), organic matter (98.45%), total ash(98.14%) and crude protein (67.85%) was recorded for oyster cell, white maize grain, oyster celland meat meal respectively. SummaryDigestibility of the palatable indigenous shrub Grewia carpinifolia was investigated. Digestion coefficients (%) were—organic matter 70, dry matter 70, crude protein 78, crude fibre 54, nitrogenfree extract 81, ether extract 13 and ash 52. Calculated nutritive values were—starch equivalent 27.3 and digestible crude protein 5.0, giving a nutritive ratio of about 1 : 5. The material used was moderately young.

Abstract This study highlights the effect of drought and ambient temperature on performance and herbage quality of legume monocultures and grass-legume mixtures. In a field experiment, the total dry matter yield, seasonal pattern of dry matter yield distribution, content of crude protein and crude fibre of monocultures of red clover and alfalfa and grass-legume mixtures were investigated during two consecutive dry years (2011-2012). Alfalfa cultivars Kamila and Tereza grown as monocultures or as mixtures with Festulolium braunii (cultivar Achilles) outperformed the red clover cultivars Fresko and Veles and provided a well-balanced total and seasonal dry matter yield during both years. Across all experimental years, crude protein content was significantly higher at alfalfa monocultures and mixture when compared with clover monocultures (P < 0.05). However, considerable lower content of crude fibre at clover monocultures in comparison with alfalfa ones was found. Responses of nutritive parameters of both legume species to weather variables were different. Crude protein content in red clover was independent of rainfall and temperature. In contrast, the crude fibre content correlated with temperature whereby the alfalfa monocultures showed stronger correlations (P < 0.05) than red clover monocultures.

An experiment was carried out to evaluate two temperate forage legumes (Trifolium pratense and Trifolium repens) and two tropical forage legumes (Stylosanthes guianensis and Centrosema molle) for hay intake and digestibility in the cool tropical climate of Vom, Jos, Plateau State of Nigeria. The legumes were planted in the month of June, 2016 and harvested at early-podding stage for hay. Sixteen (16) growing male New Zealand White rabbits were used for the digestibility study. The rabbits were arranged in a Completely Randomised Design and in individual cages measuring 55 cm x 39 cm x 40 cm. Nutrient contents, intake and digestibility in rabbits were determined. Crude protein content was significantly (P<0.01) higher in T. repens (18.38%) compared to T. pratense (16.50 %), whereas S. guianensis produced the least value of 13.83%. The crude fibre content of the hay was significantly higher (P<0.0I) in S. guianensis (37.29 %) compared to the other forage legumes. Dry matter intake was significantly (P<0.01) higher in rabbits fed T. repens (77.88%) compared to T. pratense (76.57%), and the lowest value of 62.97% was obtained in S. guianensis. Crude protein intake was significantly (P<0.01) higher in rabbits fed T. repens (15.05 g d-1) compared to those fed T. pratense (12.71 g d-1), but S. guianensis had the least value of 8.64 g d-1. On the other hand, rabbits fed S. guianensis hay had a higher (P<0.01) crude fibre intake (23.39%). Trifolium repens was significantly (P<0.01) higher in dry matter and crude protein digestibility (64.79 and 85. 88 %), while S. guianensis had lower values of 56.89 and 71.33%, respectively. Trifolium repens also had a significantly (P<0.01) higher total nitrogen intake and retained compared to the other forage legumes. Nitrogen retained in T. repens was 2.40 g d-1 compared to 1.87 g d-1 in T. pretense, while S. guianensis had the lowest of 1.34 g d-1. The temperate forage legume hays were higher in nutrient content, intake and digestibility compared to the tropical legume hays. Therefore, the forage crops may serve as better supplementary feeds for livestock feeding especially during the dry season.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of combined phosphorus and nitrogen fertilization and of harvesting frequency on the chemical composition of 'Gigante' cactus pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) cladodes. The experiment was carried out in two municipalities, Quixadá and Tejuçuoca, in the state of Ceará, Brazil. Fertilization with nitrogen (urea) and phosphorus (single superphosphate) was done with nine doses, respectively: 10 and 70, 70 and 10, 70 and 70, 70 and 130, 100 and 100, 130 and 70, 130 and 130, 130 and 190, and 190 and 130 kg ha-1 per year, besides 100 kg ha-1 N and P2O5 per year as the control. The harvesting frequencies evaluated were annual and biannual. A randomized complete block design was adopted, in split plot, with four replicates. The effect of fertilization on the contents of total dry matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, organic matter, and total carbohydrates in the cladodes varies with harvesting frequency and site. Regarding harvesting frequency, there were higher contents of organic matter, total carbohydrates, and neutral detergent fiber, but lower contents of crude protein for the biannual harvesting in both municipalities. Annual harvesting improves the nutritional quality of primary and secondary cladodes in the municipality of Quixadá and of secondary and tertiary cladodes in Tejuçuoca.

(1) A review of the literature on the digestibility of wheat by poultry revealed the fact that, whereas there appeared to be but little variation in the digestibility coefficients for organic matter and N-free extract, considerable variation existed in the digestibility coefficients for crude protein, fibre and ether extract. It was considered desirable, therefore, to carry out digestibility determinations of known varieties of English wheats in order to ascertain how far such variations could be attributed to different varieties of wheat having been used in these experiments.(2) Experiments carried out with Little Joss wheat and Yeoman II wheat gave closely concordant results for all nutrients other than ether extract.(3) The results obtained in these experiments support the view that the digestibility of crude fibre by poultry is negligible.(4) Except in the case of crude fibre and ether extract, poultry appear to be able to digest wheat as efficiently as other farm animals. Poultry are, however, distinctly inferior to other farm animals in their capacity to digest crude fibre and ether extract.(5) The results of the present experiment show general agreement with previous work, except in the case of protein, where the digestibility coefficients are distinctly higher than those hitherto recorded. The explanation of this result may possibly be sought for in the improved methods used in the estimation of uric acid and ammonia

The influence of the stage of maturity of alfalfa on the chemical composition and in sacco digestibility was studied in a laboratory experiment. Alfalfa plants were analysed in 8 vegetation stages harvested in regular intervals before the beginning of bud setting until the fall of blossoms. The contents of nitrogenous substances, fat, crude fibre, ADF, NDF, Ca, P, Na, K and Mg were determined in the samples, and using the in sacco method also the organic matter digestibility in the rumen. Further we assessed the energy content and calculated the N−free extractives (BNLV) value. In some stages the chemical changes were monitored in the whole plant. It was discovered that during vegetation there was a statistically significant increase in the crude fibre content and in the ADF and NDF fractions and a reduction in nitrogenous substances. A strong negative correlation was detected between the stage of maturity of alfalfa and content of crude protein and net energy for lactation (r = −0.97 and r = −0.92, respectively). In the individual stages of vegetation the differences in the content of nitrogenous substances, fibre and fat were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The statistically highest content of crude protein (28.97%) was detected in the first stage before bud setting and the lowest (11.97%) in the stage after the fall of blossoms. Later vegetation also had a stronger depressive effect on the content of fat and NEL. The organic matter digestibility (P < 0.05) was the lowest in alfalfa in the last stage of sampling (62.6%) when it reached a mere 85.99% of the digestibility at the beginning of bud setting. The highest organic matter digestibility (72.80%) was detected in a sample of young alfalfa prior to bud setting. In the experiment we confirmed a strong and negative correlation (r = −0.97) between the crude fibre content and organic matter digestibility. The correlation was also strong between the stage of maturity of alfalfa and the content of magnesium (Mg).

The paper evaluates the quality of model silages made of wilted grass biomass and treated with silage additives. Grass species used for the production of silages were Lolium perenne, Festulolium pabulare and Festulolium braunii harvested in the first cut at the stage of earing. The assessed grass species were wilted after the cut for an identical time 36 hours (2008), resp. 24 hours (2009). The treatment was made either with a chemical preparation (formic acid, propionic acid, ammonium formate) and/or with a bio­lo­gi­cal inoculant (Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus plantarum, Pediococcus acidilactici, Lactobacillus salivarius, cellulase, hemicellulase and amylase). The amount of the chemical ingredient was 4 l . t−1 and the amount of the biological additive was 10 g . t−1.The biomass was after wilting ensilaged in con­tai­ners whose diameter and height were 0.15 m and 0.64 m, respectively. After 60 days of ensilaging, the silages were assessed for pH, organic acids content, ethanol content and acidity of water extract (AWE); organic nutrients assessed in the silages were crude fibre (CF), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF), crude protein (CP) and digestibility of organic matter (DOM). Hygienic safety was assessed from the contents of zearalenon, fumonisin and aflatoxin mycotoxins. The high (P < 0.05) dry matter (DM) content in Festulolium pabulare silages indicates that the species tends to rapid wilting. The higher DM content reflected in lower biomass losses (P < 0.05). The lowest pH values (P < 0.05) were detected in silages made of Festulolium braunii. The fact relates to the higher content of lactic acid in the prepared microsilages. The use of ensiling additives affected the quality of extracts. Namely the application of the biological additive led to the increased content (P < 0.05) of not only lactic acid but acetic acid too. Titrable acidity was not affected by the ensiling additives. As to the emanation of ethanol, heterofermentative bacteria of lactic fermentation apparently took part in the fermentation process of the silages as well. While the evaluated forage species showed differences in the di­ges­ti­bi­li­ty of organic matter (P < 0.05), the application of preservatives did not influence the content of organic nutrients. Fumonisin was not detected at all and aflatoxins were below the level of detection. None of the assessed factors had an effect on the content of zearalenon; in spite of the fact, an apparent tendency towards a higher content of zearalenon was recorded in Lolium perenne.

Every good food comes with its negative side, and ‘Kacang Koro’ is one of them. Although ‘Kacang Koro’ contains a lot of protein, it also has a negative side, such as an anti-nutritional factor. These anti-nutrient factors need to be removed in order to produce nutritious food. This study was aimed to determine the effect of pre-treatment (soaking, soaking-boiling, soaking-roasting, soaking-microwave) on physicochemical composition and sensory acceptability in ‘Kacang Koro’ energy bar. The energy bars were subjected to physical analyses, proximate analysis, calorie content, phytochemical analyses and sensory analysis. All the different treatments of ‘Kacang Koro’ energy bar showed moisture content of 8.29 - 12.42%, ash of 1.09 - 1.11%, crude protein of 7.51 - 10.14%, crude fat of 12.75 - 17.77%, crude fibre of 2.78 - 3.62%, and carbohydrate of 57.19 - 63.91%. The calorie content was found to be 484.81 - 511.29 kcal/100 g. The oxalate content in all ‘Kacang Koro’ pre-treated is ranged between 29.81 - 45.1 mg/kg. The phytic acid content is between 0.15% - 0.37% and the tannin content is in the range of 25.53 L - 52.30 mg GAE/L. Energy bar with soaking-microwave pretreated ‘Kacang Koro’ has higher value in crude protein, crude fat, and crude fibre but moderate in moisture and carbohydrate content, meanwhile lower in ash content. Sensory acceptability tests showed the sweetness, taste and overall acceptability of the samples were significantly different between ‘Kacang Koro’ energy bars using soaking compared to soaking-microwave pretreatment. The pre-treatment of ‘Kacang Koro’ may boost the use of these ‘Kacang Koro’ in the food industry and promote their application.
