The Problems of Translation of Cultural Aspects of Literary Texts and Its Evaluation

This introductory chapter begins by providing the reader with a background to the historiography of Egyptian mathematics and the problems and possible approaches in the historiography of ancient mathematics (technical aspects vs. contextual, sociological, and cultural aspects), as well as indicates the specific difficulties inherent in Egyptian sources. It then sets out the book's purpose, which is to sketch the development of Egyptian mathematics from the invention of number notation, which occurred at approximately the same time as the invention of writing, until the Greco-Roman Periods using a variety of available sources, thereby also describing the context and cultural setting of Egyptian mathematics throughout pharaonic history. In order to achieve this, archaeological sources, administrative texts, autobiographies, and various literary texts will be used.

This article aims to investigate two novels of Toni Morrison, Beloved and The Bluest Eye, by a cultural materialistic approach. Cultural materialists emphasize on the cultural aspects and elements of literary texts. They study issues such as race, gender, sexuality, social class, and slavery. In other words, they put under investigation the marginalized people of society, like black people, females, and slaves. In this regard, Toni Morrison is a great writer whose writings are replete with cultural issues. As most of the main characters of Toni Morrison's novels are black people, so it can be concluded that for her, marginalized people of society and minorities especially females, are at center. Therefore, in this paper, it is aimed to emphasize on cultural elements of Morrison's novels, Beloved and The Bluest Eye, and determine what stance she takes toward such minorities.

No presente trabalho, pretende-se analisar de que forma algumas obras literárias do escritor Jorge Amado e algumas músicas do cantor e compositor Dorival Caymmi expressam, de distintas formas, os diferentes lugares da Bahia, com especial ênfase em Salvador, sua capital. As peculiaridades culturais, aspectos da cotidianidade, visões de mundo e jeito de ser de baianos e baianas inspiraram obras literárias e músicas que difundem, para além do âmbito do território baiano, os elementos dessa “baianidade” que pode ser lida, percebida e analisada sob olhares diversos em outros estados ou países. Objetiva-se discutir como algumas obras literárias e musicais importantes desses autores expressaram e ainda expressam os elementos da afro-baianidade e aspectos identitários do povo baiano. Constatou-se que, tanto nos textos literários, quanto na musicalidade dos autores em análise, os lugares e contextos paisagísticos se destacam a partir de espaços culturais e de edificações simbólicas, de elevada visibilidade, como o Pelourinho, o centro histórico de Salvador e a Igreja do Bomfim, um importante templo religioso e devocional da capital baiana. Abstract IDENTITY ISSUES AND BAHIA’S CULTURAL SPECIFICITY EXPRESSED THROUGH MUSIC AND LITERATURE: A GEOGRAPHIC VIEW This work intends to examine how some Jorge Amado’s literary works and some music from the singer and songwriter Dorival Caymmi express in different ways, different places in Bahia, specially its capital, Salvador. Specific cultural aspects of everyday life, worldviews and the ways of people from Bahia, inspired literary works and songs that spread beyond the scope of the Bahia State, the elements of this “baianidade” which can be read, understood and analyzed in different ways in other states or countries. It aims to discuss how some important literary and musical works of these authors expressed and still express the african-bahia elements and some identity aspects of the people from Bahia. It was found that in both the literary texts and the musicality of the authors under review, the places and landscape stand out as cultural spaces and symbolic buildings of high visibility, such as Pelourinho, the historic center of Salvador, and the Church of Bomfim , an important religious and devotional temple of Salvador.

Introduction. In world onomatology, the weight of research devoted to the study of the lexicon of the French language, including the basics of the origin of deopoetonyms, structural and semantic conditioning, the scope of use in comparison with other languages is growing. As a logical consequence, the comparison of linguistic-stylistic, poetonymic, gender features of the French and Uzbek deopoetonyms in the language lexical-semantic, national-cultural, literary text has gained priority and relevance in the field of linguistics. Indeed, the definition of the semantic and stylistic potential of these units, the interpretation of general and differential motivational aspects of naming within different systematic languages serve to improve the system of representation of deopoetonyms in dictionaries, to determine the laws of functional equivalence and adequacy in the translation process. Research methods. In the use of words expressing the names of natural phenomena in literary texts, their special reliance on linguocognitive and linguocultural semantics is more clearly understood in the process of translation. In particular, reliance on denotative semaphores rather than expressive semaphores of deemoetonyms in artistic texts is one of the important aspects of the poetic skill of creators. This is especially the case in poetic texts. The translation process should take into account the etymology, methodological features, derivational properties, semantics (synonymy), formality (homonymy), ambiguity (polysemantic), hierarchy (graduonymic), semantic contradiction (antonymicity), etc. will be. When direct and indirect translations of some poetic texts written in French are observed, it becomes clear that deopoetonyms are preserved and expressed at different levels in them. Results and discussion. In dictionaries deopoetonyms are given in the system of el-yagyn names, but in the dictionaries compiled later their etymology, linguistic meanings, lexical-semantic semantics, formality, antonyms, hyphenation, hierarchical formation, methodological features, derivational properties, diachronic and synchronous forms, vital giving features such as denotative, connotative expression on the basis of concepts is necessary to achieve perfection of lexicographic interpretation. Conclusion. It is natural that there are still some problems with the lexicographic interpretation of deopoetonyms, which will cause some problems in the smooth implementation of translation work in this regard. Such problems are especially evident in the presentation of lexical graduonomic series related to them, in the expression of close concepts, connotative and denotative meanings

The article is devoted to the study of the Hungarian section of the Chuvash studies. The aim of the work is to familiarize the scientific community with new Hungarian scientists. The author uses traditional descriptive and analytical methods practiced in scholarship. The Hungarian section is the most developed area of foreign Chuvash studies. It is due to the linguistic contacts of the Turkic languages of the Chuvash type with Hungarian, which took place in the period before the conquering of homeland by the Hungarians. Currently, Hungarian Chuvash studies are mainly represented by linguistic and musicological trends. There are works of a historical and literary plan. One of the representatives of modern scholars of the Chuvash language in Hungary is M. Takács, who asserted herself by direct translations of the works of the Chuvash fiction into Hungarian, mainly the stories of E. Lisina. She also published scholarly works based on personal experience and devoted to the problems of translation and linguistics of a literary text. Thus, a distinctive feature of M. Takács’s Chuvash studies at the moment is a departure from the problems recognized as traditional for the Hungarian Chuvash studies – language contacts. Another direction of M. Takács’s research is the study of nouns published in the book «Works related to the grammar of the Chuvash language» of 1769. Another direction of M. Takács is the study of the problems of «Works belonging to the grammar of the Chuvash language» 1769. The author comes to the conclusion that the scientific developments of M. Takac in Hungarian Chuvash studies develop the traditions of studying the literary texts of Chuvash authors in linguistic and translation aspects.

Introduction. This article deals with the interpretation of the literary texts in an ESL classroom. We will try to analyze and examine the possible overcomes of the usage of literature in the classroom which means it will purely rely on the teacher and student involvement in the classroom situation. Research methods. It is clear that the problem of using literary texts in the English classroom is being observed and analyzed for a long time. There are many researches conducted in this field that have both positive and negative results. Literature is inseparable part of language learning since it deals with authentic text, and the reader can see the language of people who use it as their native. It can be a very helpful tool even if it has some cons which will not overweight the positiveness of this research. Results and discussions. Its is very important to mention that ESL classroom differs from a native speaker classroom for the reason that the students are not directly involved in the process of using the language that they are learning. The learning styles of the students with different cultural background also affects on the process of learning for the fact that culture is a part of language. Because of this reason language learning can be closely connected with the literature of that nation since you can come across with different cultural aspects while you read or examine any sorts of literary books.

Purpose of the study: The purpose of this study was to investigate the procedures that translators employ to translate cultural collocations from Arabic into English,.It is considered a challenge for translators since the components of such collocations must be translated as one meaningful unit. Methodology: The methodology of this study is a descriptive-interpretive analysis of the source text (ST) and target texts (TTs). The authors applied Newmark's culture categorizations and translation theory to categorize the collocations in this study and investigate their Translation, which was collected from the Arabic novel "Awlad Hartna" by Naguib Mahfouz, and its two translations in English, "Children of Gebelawi" by Philip Stewart (1981) and "Children of the Alley" by Peter Theroux (1988). Main Findings: The results of the study revealed that the source text is a rich source of cultural signs. Analysis of the data indicated that translators apply only 10 procedures, which include cultural equivalent, functional equivalent, descriptive equivalent, through-translation, shifts, modulation, paraphrasing, couplet, reduction and omission, and literal Translation. Procedures of transference, naturalization, and synonymy have been avoided since they are usually used to translate single cultural words. The findings further revealed that literal Translation is the most frequently used procedure and shifts are the least frequently used. Application of the study: Findings of the study have pedagogical implications for translators in general, translators of literature, student translators, and teacher translators. Findings of the cultural analysis of collocations are an essential resource for researchers of cultural studies to translate between Arabic and English. The novelty of this study: The scientific novelty of the present study lies in discussing the functional procedures that are used to translate cultural signs in the form of collocations. The cultural aspects of collocations and the meaning of cultural collocations are also presented in a detailed and comprehensive manner.
