The acknowledgment of social media as a strategy in health education is essential, providing benefits to health promotion and the prevention and treatment of comorbidities. This study assessed the contribution of WhatsApp use on the prognosis of medical conditions and its impact on enhancing the quality of life. The review protocol used PubMed and Web of Science as databases, followed PRISMA-E 2012 guidelines, was registered in PROSPERO (Nº2021232688), and its risk of bias was analyzed Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing the risk of bias. Thirteen impact studies (n = 1653 participants) were selected and showed evidence on metabolic parameters such as reducing blood pressure (7.6%); body mass index-BMI (7.6%); glycated haemoglobin-HbA1c (15.4%); resting heart rate (7.6%); increase in static balance increase on balance (7.6%) and reduced body weight (7.6%). Furthermore, specific findings on each intervention were demonstrated, such as diminished rates of relapse in substance users (7.6%); increased populational knowledge on chronic diseases (23%) associated with a decrease in the potential complications (7.6%), and a rise on treatment adhesion (7.6%); impact on the follow-up of pregnant patients (7.6%) and progress on oral hygiene (15.4%). Therefore, it was concluded that this intervention strategy demonstrated significant magnitude in reducing the progression and complication of the assessed disorders.

The Danfa Comprehensive Rural Health and Family Planning Project was a joint effort of the Ghana Medical School, the Ministry of Health, UCLA, and USAID. A health education component was developed as an integral part of program inputs during the initial conceptual phase of the project. As a result non-equivalent experimental and control areas were designated permitting an assessment of program impact during a five-year period (1972–1977) for which baseline and follow-up study data were available. A new cadre of community-based workers (Health Education Assistants) was developed from existing health personnel in the country, and trained in health education and multipurpose health work. Although the HEAs were found to have difficulty in bringing about changes in health practices when other support services were not available, they did have measurable impact on villagers' adoption of family planning methods and a number of specific health practices.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of implementation intentions as an intervention strategy to promote walking in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: We conducted a controlled and randomized trial, with 12 months of follow-up, involving 65 people with T2DM recruited from primary health care units and allocated them in the control group (CG, n = 32) and intervention group (IG, n = 33). The IG received the implementation intention strategy to promote walking and the CG remained in follow-up for conventional treatment in primary health care. The researchers were blinded by anthropometric measurements and the filling of the instruments. RESULTS: After twelve months of follow up, the IG presented a statistically significant increase in the leisure time physical activity when compared with the CG (p = 0.0413) and showed a significant decrease in waist circumference (p = 0.0061). No significant difference was observed regarding body mass index and glycated hemoglobin among groups. CONCLUSIONS: Implementation intention was effective in promoting walking and improving clinical indicators in adults with T2DM.

Background: Chronic heart failure is a complex clinical syndrome with typical symptoms that can occur at rest or on effort. It requires patients to manage their lifestyle with their disease and when to notify their healthcare provider. The study was aimed to identify medication adherence and associated factors among chronic heart failure clients on follow up Oromia region, West Ethiopia, 2017. Methods: Institutional based cross-sectional study design was employed, after selecting three hospitals by lottery method and allocating respondents to the three hospitals proportionally. A total of 424 patients were admitted to the medical ward and/or chronic follow up of Nekemte referral, Gimbi, and Shambu hospitals. The data was collected using a structured questionnaire. The data was entered into Epi-data version 3.1, cleared, explored, and then exported to SPSS windows version 24.0 for further analysis. Variable having a p-value less than 0.05 in the bivariate analysis was a candidate for multivariable analysis and the effect of confounding variables was observed. Variables having a p-value less than 0.05 in the multivariable analysis were assumed significant. Results: A total of 424 respondents were included in the final analysis giving a 95.3% response rate. The result indicated that more than half of the study participants have adhered to prescribed medication. Respondents with good medication adherence were more likely to adhere to good self-care behavior [AOR (95% CI of OR) = 3.5(2.044, 5.96)]. Respondents whose limited fluid intake was one or half-liter per day were more likely to adhere to the medication [AOR (95% CI of OR) = 2.5(1.43, 4.49)]. It was also found that those patients who avoided spices, sauces and others in food are more likely to adhere to the medication [AOR (95% CI of OR) = 2.2 (1.152, 4.039)]. Conclusion and Recommendation: Even if more than half of the study respondents have good medication and self-care adherence, still it needs great attention in health education over their visit. Health institutions are strongly recommended to give health education for clients and researchers to use advanced study design for measuring medication adherence and self-care behaviors.
