Objective: This study aimed to analyze the profile of bladder disease in Soetomo General Hospital based on histopathological examination. Material & Methods: This study was using secondary data. Histopathological examination data of patients with bladder disease were evaluated based on age, gender, and histopathological types. Results: There were 419 patients with bladder abnormalities. Non-neoplasm bladder diseases were found in 62 patients consisted of 56 patients (90.32%) with cystitis and 6 patients (9.67%) with glandular cystitis. Neoplastic bladder diseases were found in 357 patients and were divided into benign and malignant neoplasm. Benign neoplasms were found in 11 patients consisted of 5 patients (45.45%) with UP and 6 patients (54.54%) with IUP. Malignant neoplasms were found in 340 patients consisted of 300 patients (88.23%) with urothelial carcinoma, 26 patients (7.64%) with adenocarcinoma, 14 patients (4.12%) with SCC. Moreover, six male patients with PUNLMP were also reported. Conclusion: Histopathological examination in patients with bladder abnormalities shows that neoplastic bladder diseases (357/419, 85.20%) were more common than non-neoplastic bladder disease (62/419, 14.80%).

Background: The histiocytic sarcoma (HS) complex is a set of malignant neoplasms originating from interstitial dendritic cells or macrophages. When it involves macrophages of the splenic red pulp and bone marrow, it is referred to as hemophagocytic histiocytic sarcoma (HHS). HHS behaves more aggressively than HS and is usually fatal. HHS can be diagnosed by cytological and histopathological examination of neoplastic tissue. HHS is confirmed by immunohistochemistry using an anti-CD11d antibody. This neoplasm is often confused with immune-mediated hemolytic anemia or Evans syndrome due to erythrophagocytosis and platelet consumption. The clinical presentation of the animals progresses with evident anemia and thrombocytopenia, leading to signs such as prostration, inappetence, and pale mucosa, making diagnosis challenging and often late. This study aimed to report the clinic-pathological aspects of a canine with atypical hemophagocytic splenic HS.Case: A 4-year-old male Shih-Tzu canine was referred to the Veterinary Hospital with a history of prostration and anorexia. Pale mucous membranes were observed on physical examination. Blood tests revealed non-regenerative anemia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia. Serum protein levels were below the reference values for the species in biochemical examinations. Hemoparasitosis was suspected; however, the result of the polymerase chain reaction was negative. Abdominal ultrasound revealed a splenomegaly with heterogeneous parenchyma and a slightly irregular surface, but no visible mass in the spleen. Due to the difficulty of stabilizing the patient, even after successive transfusions, the animal underwent exploratory laparotomy with medial access and posterior splenectomy. Subsequently, the spleen was surgically removed, fixed in 10% buffered formalin, and processed routinely. Macroscopically, it had an irregular reddish-brown capsular surface. Histopathological examination of the spleen revealed a densely cellular neoplasm composed of round to spindle cells (histiocytes) arranged haphazardly in variably sized sheets separating the pre-existing spleen stroma. These histopathological findings were consistent with a histiocytic malignant neoplasm. Immunohistochemical analysis was performed to better define the origin of the histiocytic neoplasm. Neoplastic cells showed positive immunostaining of more than 80% of tumor cells for the CD11d antibody and weak immunostaining for CD11c and lysozyme. The patient survived for less than 30 days after the first hospital visit.Discussion: The diagnosis of HHS was based on the histological characteristics and positive immunostaining of more than 80% of the tumor cells for the CD11d antibody. HHS is an extremely aggressive and rare tumor that affects elderly dogs of any breed. In this study, HHS had atypical histologic characteristics, in which erythrophagocytosis and hemosiderin were not observed within macrophages. HHSs arise from macrophages of the red pulp of the spleen or bone marrow and express the b2 integrin, CD11d, and have low expression of CD1 and CD11c, which are predominantly expressed by non-hemophagocytic HS. The hematological and biochemical changes observed in this case were similar to those described in other dogs with HHS. Treatment of HHS is only palliative. Erlichia ewingii, E. canis, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, A. platys, Borrelia burgdorferi, Dirofilaria immitis, Leishmania infantum and immune-mediated hemolytic anemia are the main differential diagnoses because they cause anemia and thrombocytopenia accompanied by splenomegaly.Keywords: histiocytic sarcoma, spleen, immunohistochemistry, splenectomy, erythrophagocytosis.

The differential diagnosis of midline nasal masses includes inflammatory lesions, post-traumatic deformities, benign neoplasms, malignant neoplasms, congenital and vascular masses. Midline congenital lesions of the nose are rare congenital anomalies. Their incidence is estimated at 1 per 20,000 to 40,000 births consisting of gliomas, encephaloceles, and nasal dermoid sinus cysts. Nasal dermoid sinus cysts account for 1–3% of dermoid cysts overall and 11–12% of head and neck dermoids. Most lesions are diagnosed within the first three years of life but in some cases the diagnosis can be prolonged. We present an 18-year old and a two and a half-year old male patients who are concerned about drainage from the tip of the nose with recurrent infection and operated with a diagnosis of nasal dermoid sinus cyst.

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed malignant neoplasm and the second leading cause of cancer death among women. Epithelial-to-mesenchymal Transition (EMT) plays a critical role in the organism development, providing cell migration and tissue formation. However, its erroneous activation in malignancies can serve as the basis for the dissemination of cancer cells and metastasis. The Zeb1 transcription factor, which regulates the EMT activation, has been shown to play an essential role in malignant transformation. This factor is involved in many signaling pathways that influence a wide range of cellular functions via interacting with many proteins that affect its transcriptional functions. Importantly, the interactome of Zeb1 depends on the cellular context. Here, using the inducible expression of Zeb1 in epithelial breast cancer cells, we identified a substantial list of novel potential Zeb1 interaction partners, including proteins involved in the formation of malignant neoplasms, such as ATP-dependent RNA helicase DDX17and a component of the NURD repressor complex, CTBP2. We confirmed the presence of the selected interactors by immunoblotting with specific antibodies. Further, we demonstrated that co-expression of Zeb1 and CTBP2 in breast cancer patients correlated with the poor survival prognosis, thus signifying the functionality of the Zeb1–CTBP2 interaction.

We conducted a population-based retrospective study to assess the long-term risks of overall and cause-specific mortality and second malignant neoplasm (SMN) among survivors of young adult cancer compared to the risk in British Columbia (BC) population and to evaluate the effects of demographic and clinical factors on risk. 1248 5-year survivors of young adult cancer diagnosed 1970–1995 between 20 and 24 years of age were identified from the BC Cancer Registry and followed to the end of 2007. Standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) and standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) were calculated. The Cox proportional hazards model was used to estimate the effects of different demographic and disease-related characteristics on the risk of death and SMN. A total of 138 deaths and 62 SMNs were observed during follow-up. The overall SMR was 5.9 (95% CI 4.9–6.9) and the absolute excess risk was 5.3 per 1,000 person-years. The overall SIR was 3.0 (95% CI 2.3–3.8). Treatment with radiation resulted in increased risks of death and SMN. These observed increased risks emphasize the importance of prevention, surveillance, and treatment of late effects in survivors of young adult cancers.

Subject: malignant neoplasms of the oral cavity, primary detectability, appeal to specialists, terms of treatment before hospitalization. Objective: based on a five-year analysis of the medical records of patients with a verified diagnosis of malignant neoplasm of the oral cavity, to identify significant criteria for primary diagnosis, doctors of the first contact, including non-cancer profile. Methodology. Malignant neoplasms occupy one of the leading places among all medical and social problems. This is due to a number of reasons, among which are particularly high rates of morbidity and mortality, late treatment of patients and frequent disability. the Purpose of early detection of malignant tumors of the oral cavity is to increase the effectiveness and radicality of treatment, increase the possibility of dental rehabilitation, reduction of disability. To write this article, we conducted a five-year analysis of the primary detection of malignant tumors of the oral cavity in 76 patients hospitalized for treatment in the head and neck Department of the Chelyabinsk district Oncology center. All patients with histologically confirmed diagnosis. Everyone needs specialized anti-tumor treatment. In addition to standard diagnostic procedures, all patients were surveyed on the issues of primary complaints and appeals to medical specialists. Results. On the example of the received questionnaires as well as the standard medical examinations conducted upon admission to the head and neck Department, the trends of the primary referral of patients to primary contact doctors, the terms of treatment before referral to a specialized oncological institution, the stage of the process and the presence of metastasis of the primary focus during treatment, the presence of aggravating factors are analyzed. Conclusions. The results for the five-year period in patients with primary malignant neoplasm of the oral cavity were evaluated, practical recommendations on clinically significant symptoms of malignant tumors of the oral cavity, orientation on the timing of observation were given.

Dysgerminoma is a rare malignant neoplasm, associated with hormonal dysfunctions, which occurs in canine and feline females from middle age to elderly, without racial predisposition. In the present report, we described a case of ovarian dysgerminoma in a dog, only abdominal distension, persistent vulvar bloody discharge and apathy. The animal in question underwent exploratory laparotomy, where general neoformations were detected in the ovaries, and a lymph node with abnormal characteristics was also found. Therefore, surgery for ovariosalpingoisterectomy and puncture of a fragment of the lymph node altered for incisional biopsy was performed. The diagnosis was made through histopathological examination of the ovaries of the fragment derived from the lymph node, the result of which indicated the presence of dysgerminoma in both ovaries and in the lymph node, characterizing a metastasis. In view of this result, the chemotherapy protocol with the association of carboplatin and vinblastine was instituted, which proved to be effective and not very toxic to the animal, with no clinical sign of metastasis being identified after its use.

Introduction: As liver diseases (LDs) occur as liver damage takes place, their causes are variable and mostly caused by viruses and alcohol intake. The cases of LDs have increased significantly; they are also charged with mortality rates and hospitalizations. Objective: to analyze mortality and hospitalizations due to LDs in the Western Amazon. Methods: Ecological study with time series design using secondary data related to deaths and hospital admissions for LDs in the Western Amazon. Results: The number of cases of mortality due to male diseases is higher in men, considering the period from 2008 to 2017. The study results also show that the affected patients are mostly over 50 and under 20 years old, who are the least likely to die. Regarding hospitalization rates, male patients have the highest number of hospitalizations and are not different from mortality; patients over the age of 50 also represent the largest hospitalization cases. Conclusion: There is a tendency towards stability in cases of mortality and hospitalization due to liver diseases in the Western Amazonia.

Introduction: Inhalation injury is one of burns impact. Airway burns due to inhalation injury is a non-specific term which refer to all respiratory tract injuries occurred due to irritative chemicals, including heat and smoke during inspiration. Inhalation injury increases the risk of death in burns. Pneumonia is one of burns-related inhalation injury complications.Methods: This was a descriptive retrospective study aiming to determine the incidence of pneumonia in burn patients with inhalation injury using secondary data at Burn Center Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya in the period of January 2015 - December 2018.Results: There were 5 cases of pneumonia in 14 burn cases with inhalation injury (35.71%). Respectively, 2 and 3 cases were found in 2017 and 2018. There were 2 female (40%) and 3 male (60%) patients, with age varied within 28-73 years old. The burn area of burn patients with inhalation injury and pneumonia were found by 15%, 20%, 24%, 32% and 71%, or within the classification of 11-20% burn area, and most complication found was hypoalbuminemia, as much as 3 cases (60%).\Conclusion: Most pneumonia in burn cases with inhalation injury was occurred in 2018, dominated by male patients. The age of the patient were ranging from early adulthood to elderly. Most burns were in the range of 11-20% burn area with the most complication found was hypoalbuminemia.

IntroductionSalivary gland neoplasms comprise a wide group of tumors with diverse histology and broad biologic behavior, often presenting difficulties in their definitive diagnosis and treatment. In the last decades, the prominent role of angiogenesis in the neoplastic process has been recognized, and alterations of its promoters and inhibitors have been investigated in most human tumors. However, angiogenesis in salivary gland neoplasms has not been thoroughly studied.Material and MethodsWe evaluated the immunohistochemical expression of various angiogenesis-related molecules and the vascularity of 61 malignant (16 adenoid cystic carcinomas, 12 mucoepidermoid carcinomas, 11 polymorphous low grade adenocarcinomas, 9 adenocarcinomas NOS, 6 salivary duct carcinomas, 3 carcinomas ex-pleomorphic adenomas, 2 lymphoepithelial carcinomas, 1 myoepithelial carninoma, 1 clear cell carinoma NOS) and 18 benign salivary gland neoplasms (13 pleomorphic adenomas, 5 Warthin tumours).The evaluated molecules were: angiogenesis-promoter vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). angiogenesis-inhibitor Endostatin. angiogenesis related molecule collagen angiogenesis related molecule HSP47. endothelial marker FVIIIR:Ag. Vascularity was assessed by calculation of MicroVessel Density (MVD) and by FVIIIR:Ag immunostaining intensity.ResultsVEGF was expressed in 83.6% of malignant and 94.44% of benign neoplasms. Endostatin was expressed in 91.8% and 100% of malignant and benign cases respectively. Collagen XVIII was expressed in 100% of both benign and malignant neoplasms. HSP47 was expressed in 78.68% of malignant and 100% of benign neoplasms.All markers predominantly showed a diffuse pattern of immunostaining (more than 50% positive cells). VEGF immunostaining intensity varied widely among cases, ranging from weak to strong for both malignant and benign cases. Endostatin, Collagen XVIII and HSP47 presented varying immunointensity for malignant cases, whereas benign cases mainly presented strong immunostaining.Statistical analysis correlated VEGF expression in malignant neoplasms with TNM stage and extraparenchymal infiltration (p=0,0005 and 0,00063 respectively). The total score of immunoreactivity for Endostatin, Collagen XVIII and HSP47 was significantly higher in benign compared to malignant cases (p=0.01, p=0.02, and p=0,00996 respectively). Furthermore, HSP47 positivity and intensity was statistically higher in benign neoplasms, compared to malignant (p=0,0067 and p=0.0249 respectively). Additionally Endostatin immunoexpression correlated with Collagen XVIII expression in benign cases (p<0.001). No association was found regarding tumor MVD. However, immunostaining intensity of the endothelial marker FVIIIR:Ag was higher in malignant tumours (p=0,013).ConclusionsOur results show that benign compared to malignant salivary gland neoplasms express higher levels of Endostatin, Collagen XVIII and HSP47. Ιn malignant neoplasms an increase in the ratio of angiogenic to angiostatic elements is observed. It suggested that enhanced angiogenesis may contribute to salivary gland carcinogenesis.

The aim of the study was an analysis of mortality trends due to malignant neoplasms in Poland. The study material was a database, consisting of 1,367,364 death certificates of inhabitants of Poland who died during the period 2000–2014 due to malignant cancer. To calculate years of life lost, the SEYLLp index (Standard Expected Years of Life Lost per living person) was applied. We also calculated AAPC (Average Annual Percentage Change). The SEYLLp index (per 10,000 population) due to malignant neoplasms in Poland in males decreased from 586.3 in 2000 to 575.5 in 2014, whereas in females it increased from 398.6 in 2000 to 418.3 in 2014. The greatest number of lost years of life in 2014 was attributed to lung cancer (174.7 per 10,000 males and 77.3 per 10,000 females), breast cancer in females (64.5) and colorectal cancer in males (39.0). The most negative trends were observed for lung cancer in females (AAPC = 3.5%) and for colorectal cancer (AAPC = 1.8%) and prostate cancer (AAPC = 1.6%) in males. Many lost years could have been prevented by including a greater number of Polish inhabitants in screening examinations, mostly targeted at malignant neoplasm, whose incidence is closely connected with modifiable risk factors.
