Determining the chemical composition of medicinal plants used for therapeutic purposes is of fundamental importance. These plants must meet quality standards for commercialization by ensuring pharmacological properties and efficacy. However, for the maintenance of their active compounds, it is very important to store them at a suitable temperature and ensure the safety of these compounds. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different temperatures and storage periods in the maintenance of chemical composition of bushy lippia (Lippia alba), crajiru (Arrabidaea chica), eucalyptus (Eucalyptus grandis), lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus), citronella (Cymbopogon nardus) and sage (Lippia microphylla) leaves. Leaves of these medicinal plants were stored for different periods (30, 60 and 90 days) at different temperatures (0, 17 and 24 °C). A complete randomized design was used with five replications, each one with 150g of leaves. For each combination of temperature and storage period, different variables were evaluated such as phenolic compounds, total anthocyanins, antioxidant activity (ORAC and DPPH), carotenoids and chlorophyll contents. Leaves stored at 0°C resulted in the most efficient preservation of chemical compounds at 30, 60 and 90 days. However, this temperature causes physiological damage to the leaves. Therefore, for commercial use, dried or crushed leaves in the form of powder is recommended. Storage at 17 °C keeps the chemical composition of the leaves at satisfactory levels, while at 24 °C there is a significant decrease over the periods of cold storage.

The aim of this study was to determine the influence of storage temperature and time on physicochemical parameters of starch syrups recommended for the winter feeding of bee colonies. The studies included commercially available three starch syrups and an inverted saccharose syrup that were stored at different temperatures: ca. 20 °C, 10–14 °C, and ca. 4 °C. Physicochemical parameters of fresh syrups (immediately after purchase) and syrups after 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, and 24 months of storage at the abovementioned temperatures were measured. It was observed that the rate of unfavorable changes in chemical composition of starch syrups and the inverted saccharose syrup, mainly the changes in the 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) content, depended on the type of a syrup and storage conditions (temperature, time). Properties of tested starch syrups intended for winter feeding of bees stored at ca. 20 °C maintained unchanged for up to 6 months, whereas the same syrups stored at lower temperatures (10–14 °C) maintained unchanged physicochemical parameters for about 12 months. In higher temperatures, the HMF content increased. To date, the influence of this compound on bees has not been thoroughly investigated.

<p>‘Maha Chanok’<strong> </strong>mango is an economic fruit crop widely cultivated commercially throughout Thailand. By nature, mango fruit has a rather limited storage life after harvest. 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) has been accepted as a commercial substance to improve several fruit qualities. The objective of this research was to study the effects of 1-MCP on the external postharvest qualities and storage life on the ‘Maha Chanok’ mango fruit. The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design with three replicates, ten fruits per replicate. Mango fruit was fumigated with 1-MCP at three concentrations (1000, 1250, or 1500 nl l<sup>-1</sup>) and three fumigation periods (12, 18, or 24 h), compared with the control fruit. After treating, all treatments were stored under ambient temperature (27 °C, 80%R.H.). The following determinations were made every two days for assessment of fruit weight loss, firmness, chlorophyll content, decay incidence, and storage life. The results showed that fruit treated with 1500 nl l<sup>-1</sup><strong> </strong>1-MCP for 24 h had the maximal fruit firmness. For chlorophyll content, the results showed that fruit-treated with 1500 nl l<sup>-1</sup><strong> </strong>1-MCP for 12 h could effectively retain the highest chlorophyll contents. Furthermore, both the lowest fruit decay and the longest storage life of 12 days were achieved from the fruit treated with 1000 nl l<sup>-1</sup><strong> </strong>1-MCP for 12 h.</p>

<p><em>Coffee is a beverage that is widely consumed around the world. Proper packaging and storage temperature may extend shelf life of ground coffee. The study aimed to analyze the shelf life of ground Arabica coffee stored in different packaging types and temperature, conducted at smallholder coffee plantations in Garut Regency and the Integrated Laboratory of Indonesian Industrial and Beverage Crops Research Institute, Sukabumi, from June to August 2018. A completely randomized design in factorial was used with 3 factors and 2 replications. The first factor was the packaging type  which consisted of 3 types: thick alumunium  foil 65</em><em>m</em><em> (AF65), thick alumunium  foil 130</em><em>m</em><em> (AF130), and thick lamination 114</em><em>m</em><em> (L144). The second factor was the storage temperature which consisted of 3 levels: 25 <sup>o</sup>C, 35 <sup>o</sup>C, and 45 <sup>o</sup>C, while the third factor was the storage period which consisted of 5 levels: coffee unstored, and coffee stored for 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 8 weeks. The variables observed were the water and fat content, and the analysis of shelf life was carried out using the ASLT (Accelerated Shelf Life Test) method. The results showed that during storage, the water content increased, whereas the fat content decreased. Fat content is a critical variable in determining the shelf life of coffee. The coffee in AF130 packaging has longer shelf life than in AF65 and L144. To extend the shelf life of coffee packaged in AF130 and L144 is best kept at 45<sup> o</sup>C whereas coffee in AF65 packaging  is ideally at 25<sup> o</sup>C.</em></p>

This study was conducted to determine the temperature and storage time of the exact vitamin C content of red and white dragon fruit and the difference of vitamin C. The samples were taken from the plantation land in Ubud Andong Highway, Petulu, Gianyar Regency. Treated for 10 and 30 days with 2, 10, 20 and 300C temperature treatment with five repetitions using Completely Randomized Design Factorial pattern. Data obtained statistically using ANOVA (Analysis of Variance). The highest vitamin C content in red dragon fruit is 29.61 mg/ 100g temperature 100C for 10 days and the lowest is in 30 days storage with temperature 300C that is equal to 22,09 mg/ 100g. While the white dragon fruit content of vitamin C highest contained in storage with a temperature of 20C is 22.69 mg/ 100g with maximum storage of 10 days and the lowest at a temperature of 300C is 17.37 mg/ 100g.

The preservation of semen for Artificial insemination (AI) required the use of extender, which served as a buffer media to keep the sperm cell in good condition for fertilization. In this study, fluted pumpkin Telfairia occidentalis leaf extract (TOLE) potential as an unconventional boar semen extender was compared to Beltsville thawing solution (BTS), a conventional semen extender over a 48hr storage period. Aqueous solution of TOLE was prepared at three (3) concentration levels (25, 50 and 75%). Fresh ejaculates from boar were extended at (1:4) in TOLE solutions and BTS extender in a completely randomized design; treatments were replicated four (4) times. Extended semen was stored at 170C and evaluated for semen qualities which include pH, dead/live ratio (%) and sperm cell concentration at time intervals (0, 12, 24, 36 and 48) hrs. Extended semen was significantly (P < 0.05) affected by semen extenders and storage periods for pH, and dead/live ratio (%) but sperm cell concentration (103/cm3) not (P > 0.05) affected. The pH values for BTS was significantly (P < 0.05) higher as compared to TOLE extenders. 75% TOLE extender had highest value (43.89%), and BTS had lowest value (12.15%) for dead/live ratio significantly (P < 0.05). The pH and dead/live ratio (%) values increased over storage time in all extender. The optimum performance of TOLE as compared to BTS extender was recorded at 50% concentration of TOLE extender. TOLE showed a potential as boar semen extender, but further studies are required to validate and improve its application.

This study aims to examine the influence of the media and the storage period on the viability of clove seeds. The study was conducted at the Ambon Plant Crops Protection and Protection Center laboratory. The study used a factorial completely randomized design with two types of factors and three replications. The storage media consists of 3 levels, namely: Without the storage media, the media for storing rice husk and the media for storing sawdust. The second factor is the storage period consists of 4 levels, namely: 10 days storage, 20 days storage, 30 days storage and 40 days storage. The parameters measured were germination power, germination rate, and vigor index. Storage media and storage period significantly affected germination and vigor indexes but did not significantly affect germination rates. The results showed that the sawdust storage media was a good medium for storing clove seeds (Syzygium aromaticum L.). This can be seen in the results of the average germination of clove seeds stored in powder storage media with a storage time of 10 days giving better results of 85% compared to rice husks at a storage time of 10 days with a germination percentage of 65%.  Keywords: clove seeds, save media, save period   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh media dan periode simpan terhadap viabilitas benih cengkeh. Penelitian dilaksanakan di laboratorium Balai Besar Perbenihan dan Proteksi Tanaman Perkebunan Ambon. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial dengan dua macam faktor dan tiga kali ulangan. Media simpan terdiri dari 3 taraf yaitu: Tanpa media simpan, media simpan sekam padi dan media simpan serbuk gergaji. Faktor kedua adalah periode simpan terdiri dari 4 taraf yaitu: penyimpanan 10 hari, penyimpanan 20 hari, penyimpanan 30 hari dan penyimpanan 40 hari. Parameter yang diukur adalah daya berkecambah, laju perkecambahan dan indeks vigor. Media simpan dan periode penyimpanan berpengaruh nyata pada persentase perkecambahan dan indeks vigor tetapi tidak berpengaruh nyata pada laju perkecambahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa media simpan serbuk gergaji merupakan media yang baik bagi penyimpanan benih cengkeh (Syzygium aromaticum L.). Hal ini terlihat pada hasil rata-rata daya berkecambah benih cengkeh yang disimpan pada media simpan serbuk dengan lama penyimpanan selama 10 hari memberikan hasil yang lebih baik yakni 85% jika dibandingkan dengan sekam padi pada lama penyimpanan 10 hari dengan persentase perkecambahan 65%. In the present investigation a study was conducted to prepare fruit leathers from two different fruit pulps i.e. papaya and apple in various proportions. Further study was carried out in order to evaluate the vitamin C retention of prepared leathers at different temperatures such as 55°C, 65°C and 75°C. All fruit leathers were then analyzed for their organoleptic characteristics such as color, flavor, taste, appearance and overall acceptability during storage period. A study was also carried out to evaluate the moisture retention in storage of the prepared leathers in different packaging materials such as LDPE, HDPE, aluminum foil and PET jar. The results revealed that the fruit leathers dried at 65°C shown highest vitamin-C retention with better retention of sensory properties. All leathers remained unchanged during storage period but the leather stored in aluminum foil has shown a remarkable ranking as compared to others during storage period. LDPE package has shown greater moisture fluctuation, while aluminum foil shown significant moisture retention during storage. It was also observed during the study that all fruit leathers had identical color, flavor and appearance which cannot be compared with one another.

Transport duration affects the vibration level generated which has adverse effects on fresh produce during transportation. Furthermore, temperature affects the quality of fresh commodities during storage. This study evaluated physical changes in tomatoes during transportation and storage. Tomatoes were transported at three distances (100, 154, and 205 km) from a local farm and delivered to the Postharvest Laboratory where vibration acceleration was recorded per distance. Tomato was stored at two different temperatures (10 °C and 22 °C) for 12 days. The physical qualities like weight loss and firmness of all tomato samples were evaluated. RGB image acquisition system was used to assess the color change of tomato. The results of vibration showed that over 40% of accelerations occurred in the range of 0.82–1.31 cm/s2 of all transport distances. Physical quality analyses like weight loss and firmness were highly affected by transportation distance, storage temperature, and storage period. The reduction in weight loss and firmness was the highest in tomatoes transported from the farthest distance and stored at 22 °C. Lightness, yellowness, and hue values showed a high reduction as transport distance increased particularly in tomatoes stored at 22 °C. Redness, total color difference, and color indices increased significantly on tomatoes transported from 205 km and stored at 10 °C and 22 °C. The study indicated that the increase in transportation distance and storage temperature cause higher changes in the physical qualities of tomatoes.

The objective of this study was to evaluate dormancy and physiological quality of seeds of rice cultivars during storage in different environments. After harvesting, the seeds of three rice cultivars (Seleta, Curinga and Relâmpago) were dried in the sun, to reach moisture content at around 13%. Then, they were packed in paper and stored in four environments: 5 ± 2 ºC / 70 ± 5% RH, 12 ± 2 ºC / 70 ± 5% RH, 18 ± 2 ºC / 65 ± 5% RH and in uncontrolled condition of temperature and relative humidity (natural). Physiological quality was evaluated at the beginning and at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of storage by germination test, electrical conductivity, accelerated aging and sand emergence. The experiment was conducted in split plots in a completely randomized design with three replications. Environmental factor was applied in the plots, cultivars in the subplots and storage period in subplots. Cultivar Seleta showed higher dormancy, which was surpassed during storage regardless of environment conservation. In general, seeds stored in natural environment showed lower physiological quality. Only the seeds of cultivar Seleta, regardless of the environment, maintained germination above the minimum required for commercialization until six months of storage.
