Bu perspektiften hareketle çalışmada, Suriye savaşı sonrasında Hatay’ın Payas ilçesine yerleşen Suriyeli göçmen nüfusun sosyolojik görünümü ve kültürel özellikleri, karma araştırma yöntemiyle, anket ve derinlemesine mülakat tekniklerinin birlikte kullanımıyla irdelenmiş; sosyal temsil ve farkındalık temelli yaklaşımların göç ve göçmen yönetimini kolaylaştırıcı bir rol üstlendiği bulgulanmıştır.ABSTRACT IN ENGLISHThe Sociological Characteristics of Syrian Immigrants in Terms of Difference and Awareness: A Case Study in PayasDue to historical and geographical proximity, Turkey has undoubtedly been the country that is affected the most from the Syrian War and had to host almost 4 million of Syrian population. Syrian migration has brought up many security-based discussion fields to the agenda; however, overgeneralisations have prevented the consideration of the topic in terms of cultural aspects and different perspectives. For a long time, the data considering the magnitude of Syrian migration; the quality of the immigrant population; the cultural characteristics of the migration groups; and their sociological backgrounds have only been included in a limited number of academic studies. Ignoring the cultural differences among Syrian immigrant groups along with overgeneralisations has become a factor that prevented public social cohesion and gave way to the emergence of negative news or dissenting political positions. In other words, the limited information concerning the sociological characteristics of the immigration groups have postponed the consideration of the topic in terms of identity and difference; and have set back the production of specific and human-centred public policies and implementation practices. From this point of view, in this study, the sociological outlook and the cultural characteristics of the Syrians that settled in the district of Payas in Hatay after the outbreak of Syrian war have been scrutinised through questionnaires and in-depth interviews, and discussed in terms of identity, sense of belonging, social cohesion, expectation, and social distance parameters.

Vincentius Kristus Raja (KR) Main Clinic aims to serve patients effectively and economically in an effort to improve the quality of public health services, especially in Surabaya. This type of research is descriptive qualitative in the form of a case study, to assess the implementation of standard operating procedures at the Vincentius Kristus Raja Main Clinic. Relevant data collection was carried out using questionnaires distributed to personnel related to standard operating procedures. The results of the research study according to the questionnaire indicate that the operational implementation is in accordance with the standard operating procedures that have been set based on the policies of the leadership and the Vincentius Kristus Raja Main Clinic Foundation. Compliance with standard operating procedures is very important because standard operating procedures are guidelines or references for carrying out tasks and work in accordance with their functions. The conclusions and suggestions from this study are that although compliance with standard operating procedures is adequate, the Vincentius Kristus Raja Main Clinic needs to develop and improve the quality of services, especially better communication with patients, both new patients and patients who have been on treatment for a long time at the Vincentius Kristus Raja Main Clinic. Considering that there are now many new health clinics that can be competitors for the Vincentius Kristus Raja Main Clinic, there must be a good response to this phenomenon. The emergence of these new competitors requires the Vincentius Kristus Raja Main Clinic to be able to be competitive in order to face the existing competition by improving the quality and quality of service for patients.

Abstract It is generally agreed that in photojournalism pictures come first. However, also the short verbal texts that accompany them play a crucial role, as they lead readers among the different signifieds of the image. A multimodal discourse analysis of captions will aptly consider both the linguistic elements that appear within the verbal discourse and the image-text relation. The interconnectedness of captions and pictures has lately been defined as a “loop,” a view which blurs the traditional distinction between anchoring and relaying processes theorized by Barthes. The association of the relaying function with comics, however, seems to establish an interesting point of contact between photojournalism and pop art. Captions actually show the tension between “high” and “low” culture, the former being traditionally identified with the word and the latter with the image. While in the heyday of photojournalism captions were made necessary by the poor quality of the photographs, they soon began to provide an abstractive summary of the story told by the picture. This selective process involves interpretation. For this reason, captions can be ethically misleading and even legally controversial forms of discourse, for instance when they are used instrumentally to convey a specific point of view. In photojournalism dealing with crime cases, in particular, captions may display a sensationalist and populist view of justice, thus articulating the thoughts of public opinion supported by the newspaper’s stand. My case study focuses on the caption that accompanied the photo portraying Perry Smith and Richard Hickock while leaving the courtroom on March 29, 1960. The two murderers – who have become famous after the publication of the documentary novel

The current situation in Spain is characterized by the confrontation of two movements known as «independence movement» and «separatism». Both the Basque region and Catalonia have their own language, culture and a long history of the development of isolation tendencies. However, the objectives and the ways to achieve them have been different for a long time. In order to preserve the sociocultural unity of Spain it is necessary to eliminate the factors that that prevent people from finding the solution to the conflict, and the most important thing is to initiate dialogue, reach a compromise and be ready to stand by the words. It is difficult to imagine that any part will be separated from Spain from the economic point of view and, above all, socio-cultural, because the majority of Spanish population considers Spain as a strong and united State.

188 Background: Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards (MDTB) allow the review of cases and have been associated with improved decision making and outcomes. There is limited information regarding the performance of MDTBs in developing countries. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of MDTBs and its relationship with decision making at an academic hospital in Mexico City. Methods: We used a validated tool (MTB-MODe) to prospectively assess the quality of MDTBs at our institution. MTB-MODe assigns a score of 1-5 to various aspects of case presentations at a MDTB, including the quality of the information presented and the performance of team members, which are then averaged to obtain a mean score. The scores of MTDBs which reached a decision were compared against those who failed to do so using Mann-Whitney U-test. Results: 100 cases presented at MDTBs between April and June 2015 were analyzed. Median patient age was 57 years (19 - 87). The most common diagnoses were hepatic (23%), breast (20%) and prostate cancer (15%). 50% of cases (n = 50) were localized. Mean MTB-MODe score was 3.27 (range 1.75-4.75), and a decision was reached in 83% of cases (n = 83). Cases in which a multidisciplinary decision was reached had a better MTB-MODe score than those without a decision (n = 17) (3.4 vs 2.8, p = 0.01). The ability of the MDTB to reach a decision was associated with the quality of case presentation (4.1 vs 3.2, p = 0.01), the presentation of comorbidities (3.5 vs 2.6, p = 0.006), better leadership of the coordinator (3.5 vs 2.5, p = 0.002) and better participation of team members (4.2 vs 2.9, p < 0.001). The patient’s point of view was discussed in only 8% of cases (n = 8), while psychosocial issues were only considered in 10% of cases (n = 10). Conclusions: We found that the quality of case presentations at MDTBs, and the performance of its members, are associated with the ability to reach multidisciplinary decisions. In contrast with reports from developed nations, we found that the patient’s point of view and psychosocial issues were not only largely ignored, but also irrelevant for decision making. The continuous evaluation and improvement of MDTBs is necessary for successful decision making in order to improve patient outcomes.

Koodinvaihdolla tarkoitetaan kielen tai kielimuodon vaihtumista toiseksi samassa puhetilanteessa tai tekstissä. Koodinvaihtoja on tutkittu paljon, mutta niiden prosodisten piirteiden käsittely on jäänyt lähinnä maininnan tasolle. Tämä artikkeli tarkastelee lähemmin koodinvaihtojen prosodiaa. Tavoitteena on koodinvaihtoja sisältävää keskusteluaineistoa analysoimalla valottaa prosodian osuutta koodinvaihtojen merkitysten tulkinnassa. Tutkimuksen aineistona on puolen tunnin puhelinkeskustelu, jossa Suomessa syntynyt mutta pitkään Kanadassa asunut nainen keskustelee Suomessa asuvan siskonpoikansa kanssa. Aineistossa on yhteensä 73 koodinvaihtoesiintymää, joissa keskustelun kieli vaihtuu hetkellisesti suomesta englanniksi. Code-switching and prosody: A case study of the speech of an expatriate Finn living in Canada Code-switching occurs when a speaker alternates between two or more languages or language varieties in the same conversation or text. As a phenomenon, code-switching has been investigated fairly extensively, but the prosodic features that characterise many of the switches have not gained much attention in previous studies. This article examines the prosody of code-switching instances in more detail. By analysing naturally occurring conversational data, the article sheds light on the role that prosody plays in the interpretation of code-switching instances. The data consists of a 30-minute telephone conversation in which a lady, who was born in Finland but has lived in Canada for a long time, talks with her nephew, who lives in Finland. The conversation features 73 occurrences of code-switching in which the language of the conversation changes momentarily from Finnish to English. The method of our study is that of Conversation Analysis. The results of the study show that the instances of code-switching are usually produced with raised levels of pitch and intensity. Speakers typically use higher pitch and intensity when uttering loanwords or reported speech. As for loanwords, such prosodic marking invites the recipient to pay attention to the word that carries the rise in order to elicit a reaction to words whose recognition might be problematic. In the case of reported speech, however, prosodic features help to create a “second voice”. In addition to changes of pitch and intensity, the quality of voice can be marked in reported speech. In both these cases the prosodic marking carried by the code-switching invites the recipient to pay attention to the words or expressions in question. In addition to raised pitch and intensity, the data also includes several instances in which the code-switching is marked with lowered levels of pitch and intensity. In these cases, the code-switching typically consists of expressions that structure the interaction rather than constitute important content words as regards the ongoing narration. Furthermore, these instances are also more directed towards the speaker herself than to the recipient. Thus, prosodic changes can be used to regulate the degree of recipiency and to indicate the relationship between the languages being used.
