The purpose of this study was to clarify sixth graders’ (aged 12-13, N=87) perceptions about environmental problems and environmental responsibility. Four classes from two Finnish primary schools participated in the study. In the first case (n=62) which focused more on perceptions about environmental problems, the data was collected using a questionnaire. It was found that sixth graders perceived the most important environmental problems as being littering, pollution, climate change, and how much we waste. Pupils also highlighted environmental responsibility. Their answers revealed a wide range of ways for protecting the environment such as recycling, sorting, and favoring the use of environmentally cleaner vehicles. The second case more closely examined responsibility for the environment; with the aid of a picture/image to stimulate their perceptions, pupils were able to recognize environmental problems. The data comprised of writings in connection with the image (n=25) and interviews (n=12). Pupils were categorized into four groups according to their perceptions about responsibility: environmental citizens, daily active persons, free riders and disinterested persons. Environmentally responsible behavior in sixth graders was most significantly influenced by the home, being dependent upon which action model of sorting and recycling was in use there. Both data collection methods supported each other, providing similar results. The sixth graders were not only well aware of environmental problems, they were also committed to take the environment into account and act in an environmentally friendly way. In conclusion, sixth graders’ environmental education could include discussion about actions on behalf of the environment, but additional sensitization towards the environment is still needed for some pupils. Key words: environmental education, environmental problems, environmental responsibility.

We assessed the influence of environmental values on the proenvironmental behavior of youth in Serbia by assessing the level of their satisfaction with environmental conditions and their sense of personal environmental responsibility. Participants were 168 15-year-old boys and girls who were pupils in their final year at primary schools in Belgrade. We found that 9.5% of the variability in the students' proenvironmental behavior could be explained by individual differences regarding their environmental values, environmental satisfaction, and environmental responsibility. The results obtained from this study should provide curriculum developers, educators, and teachers with a deeper understanding of methods and strategies to use in order to raise environmental awareness and to encourage environmentally responsible behavior among young people in Serbia.

Researches and Studies made by the Department of Oceanography of the Institute of Geoscience of the State University of Rio de Janeiro UERJ, evidenced the need for educational support where environment-related questions were concerned. A wide range of environment problems tend to concentrate in coastal areas, owing to disordinate urban growth combined with the lack of substructure to cope with it A large number of these problems can be minimized through the participation of the local community. Thus the goals of environmental education are to supply information, to promote a change in the population's attitude toward environmental problems, besides stimulating its participation by fostering its sense of responsibility. Preliminary results have demonstrated that the community has shown great interest in the work that has been proposed, and it has contributed with participation, promising response. Environmental education is fundamental when we consider possible solutions for environmental problems in coastal urban centers. Only by educating the main cause of environmental problems, man himself, will it be possible to consider the question starting from its very origin. This abstract presents two pioneer experiments in the Municipio of Rio de Janeiro, which are “Muito Prazer Marapendi” (“Glad to know you, Marapendi”) and “Troca de Areias da Praia de Copacabana” (“Exchange of Sands in Copacabana Beach”).

Environmental education (EE) for sustainable development remains a valuable subject of contemporary society, which is characterized with environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, loss of biodiversity, and resource degradation. The delivery of EE is based on the North American Association for environmental education values of knowledge, dispositions, competencies, and responsible behavior towards the environment. EE is a transformative tool to learners since it prepares learners with skills, attitudes, knowledge, and values to resolve environmental problems. It promotes environmental activism and action-oriented resolution of environmental issues. The full benefits of EE are challenged by limited human capacity, questionable professionalism, limited resources, and poor transformation of knowledge to practice. These challenges however can be alleviated through community engagement in formulating EE programs, multidisciplinary engagements, and research on EE delivery and quality.

Abstract:Contemporary society faces a wide range of environmental problems. In what ways might business be part of the solution, rather than the problem? The Moralist Model is one general response. It tends to focus on particular corporations which it treats as moral agents operating within our common moral system. As a consequence, it claims that, with various (usually modest) changes, corporations may become environmentally responsible. This paper contends, on the contrary, that business has its own special “ethics,” which relates not simply to the internal nature of the corporation but also to the corporate (free market) system. Given this special ethics, business cannot in general be environmentally responsible in the manner that the Moralists demand. Instead, more far-reaching changes are needed within corporations and the economic system to promote environmental responsibility. Though the requisite changes are significant, there are forces pushing in the direction which the paper identifies.

The intervention of human being to the nature exceeded the capacity of tolerance. Especially with the industrialization and the inrease in population, environmental problems reached global dimension and caused the disgussion and arguement of these problems in an international dimension since the second part of the 20th century. As a result of these arguments, it emerged that to have a sustainable environment people must have responsible behaviours towards the environment and the education must teach these responsible behaviours to the individuals. Therefore; the environmental education should educate people to have strong belief in restoration of the contaminated and destroyed World. The people with strong belief in coming against with the environmental problems which affect them; have a locus of; but the people having a weaker belief have an external locus of control. The aim of this research is to reveal whether the effect of the locus of control the primary students have or not; has an effect on their responsible behaviours towards the environment. In this research descriptive survey model was used. In order to determine the locus of control the students have or not; “Locus of Control scale”developed by Nowicki & Strickland (1973) and adapted to Turkish by Korkut (1986) was used; in order to identify responsible behaviours towards the environment “Responsible behaviours towards environment scale” developed by Erdogan (2009) was used. The study group of the research consisted 495 students at 4th and 5th grades. As a result of this survey it is revealed that the locus of control has an affect on the responsible behaviours towards environment and it is found that the locus of control significantly predicts these behaviours. We think that the results of this research will contribute to the teachers who practice the environmental education in primary schools and to the specialists who prepare the curriculum and the textbooks.

Reasons why micro and small ecotourism companies addopt a social and environmental responsible behavior in Chapada dos Veadeiros (GO, Brazil) AABSTRACT This research discusses the reasons why managers of micro and small ecotourism enterprises act in a socially and environmentally responsible way. Social and environmental responsibility is understood as the commitment of business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the same time the quality of life of its employees and their families, the local community and society. The study had an exploratory-descriptive perspective and a qualitative approach. Individual interviews were conducted with 7 ecotourism companies located in the Chapada dos Veadeiros. The data collection was followed by content analysis. The results show that the firms realize that customers value their responsible behavior. Moreover that both economic interest and also the entrepreneur lifestyle influence the decision in favor of the firm responsible behavior. However, it was observed that the lifestyle has more influence in this decision making. In addition, it is noted the existence of barriers that make the responsible behavior difficult or even impossible for these firms. In conclusion, the reasons that lead to responsible behavior are multiple and strongly influenced by the company's characteristics and the context in which it is inserted. With increasing global environmental problems, considerable evidence now suggests that environmental education can influence students’ ecologically friendly behavior significantly. Addressing increased environmental problems requires better understanding of the relations between focused and explicit environmental education, environmental responsibility, and religious values. The current study examined the relationship between environmental education and ecologically friendly behavior, utilizing insights from resource conservation theory. The relationship between the variables mentioned above was examined to determine the mediating effect of environmental responsibility and the moderating effect of Islamic values. Through a cross-sectional approach, data were gathered from 413 university students. The data were analyzed using analytical techniques such as “structural equation modeling” and “PROCESS.” The study’s findings support the predicted conceptual model, indicating that environmental education was positively related to environmentally friendly behavior. Furthermore, environmental responsibility partially mediated the relationship above, whereas Islamic values positively moderated the relationships between environmental education and ecologically friendly behavior as well as between environmental education and environmental responsibility. These findings emphasize the critical role of environmental education and Islamic values in comprehending the ecological behaviors of Muslim students.

Biology learning needs to support sustainable development. This research was a quantitative-qualitative sequential explanatory mixed research. This research aimed to obtain information about the relationship between naturalist intelligence and environmental responsibility behavior. This research was conducted in February-August 2019. Quantitative research data were obtained by using a questionnaire with a Likert scale for the variables. Qualitative research data were obtained by doing interviews and observations. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistic calculation. The data hypothesis was tested by using a correlation test with the Product Moment Pearson formula. The result of this research showed that there was a positive relationship between naturalist intelligence and environmentally responsible behavior with regress equation Ŷ = 20.331 + 0,7524X. Correlation coefficient (r) = 0.66 and determination coefficient (r²) = 43.56% meant that the interpretation value was strong. r² value means that 43.56% environmentally responsible behavior correlates by naturalist intelligence and 56.44% environmentally responsible behavior is influenced by other factors. Biology learning must have a role to be able to provide innovations related to increasing students' knowledge about the environment. This study concludes that there is a correlation between the two variables.
